Chapter 22: Sinful attitudes

It was definitely pride that allowed Robin to maintain his dignity and not do something as embarrassing as tripping in front of the crowd.

Since everyone was watching him approach.

Malachi left Robin to walk alone down a makeshift aisle that led up to the podium.

All eyes were on him as he quickly walked down a white carpet to Andras’ side.

Four more men whom Robin had never laid eyes on before joined them on stage along with Zagan, Fagan and Malachi.

It seemed these seven men completed Lord Andras’ inner circle and were the ones he relied on heavily.

All of them were dressed in full black and wore the Hell’s Islands crests on the left chest area.

One by one they kneeled before their prince pledging their fealty before lining up behind him.

Later on Robin would come to understand that it was rare to see all seven of these men together as they were always on separate missions and only gathered for special occasions.

Andras still wasn’t too happy that this duty had been thrusted on him.

Despite the defiance in his heart and on his mind, Lord Muciber was an honorable man and would do whatever it takes to fulfill his vow to Queen Tiandra.

Even though at the drop of a pin these men could throw down and do battle, the collective mood amongst them was actually quite festive.

Since it wasn’t them about to be saddled with a troublesome, naive male bride for the rest of their lives.

Andras’ reaction to seeing Robin in his wedding attire was bewildering; it was not like he hadn’t seen handsome men before.

It’s just that even when Robin was frowning, he couldn’t help but want to smile at him.

Andras liked that Robin was becoming less timid around him, in truth, he was a refreshing change from all those who previously caught his interest.

Robin was sheltered and did and said alot of things that others would find strange but seeing his bizarre reactions pleased him.

Andras couldn’t help the unearthly glow in his eyes as his gaze lingered on the boy’s fair skin, before his eyes wandered elsewhere.

Due to his demonic nature, Andras emanated a severe sense of oppression about him that made others outside of his inner circle wary in his presence.

When Robin recognized the vicar in his special gown, he acknowledged him with a formal bow of respect.

Andras looked proud of Robin for displaying proper courtesy without being prompted.

The irony wasn’t lost on him, Robin couldn’t believe he was marrying a half demon under a vicar for the purpose of holy matrimony since neither of them were believers in that sense.

He wouldn’t be surprised if hail and brimstone were to rain down from the heavens for their sinful attitudes.

Since he doubted anyone attending this wedding ceremony other than the vicar was thinking anything holy.

Robin figured that it was necessary to have many witnesses for the legal aspect and since it was all beyond him he just went ahead with whatever suggestions Lord Mulciber made.

His wedding.

Just a day ago he never dreamed that he would be free of Squire James much less getting married in a fancy white tuxedo.

If a person told him, he would get married in front of a bunch of rowdy pirates and a nervous vicar who didn’t look old enough to have completed his training.

He would have laughed it off and say they were lying, for the love of God.

"Shall we begin," Andras was practically ordering the vicar around.

The vicar narrowed his eyes but stood his ground despite seeing a frown on Andras’ face.

"What is it now?" drawled Andras.

"I must say, my Lord Mulciber. It distresses me to see you and your men come and partake of this wedding sacrament dressed in full black like you’re attending a funeral," said the vicar with sincerity and a note of censure could be heard in his voice.

Turning to Robin he asked politely in front of the others, "You are voluntarily marrying me, right?"

Robin squared his shoulders doing his best not to flinch from his gaze, even though his palms were sweating profusely.

"Yes, as long as you stick to our agreement, there won’t be any issues on my end."

Turning to the vicar Andras said, "you heard the young man. I hope this squashes any misgiving you have and that you will proceed with the ceremony."

"How can I be certain he wasn’t coerced behind closed doors before making his way to the podium?" asked the vicar seriously.

Andras said stonily, "Well feel free, to interrogate him for yourself then until you are satisfied."

Relieved that his head was still attached to his body the vicar nodded.

Queen Tiandra would turn Hell’s Island upside down if the vicar went missing without giving her a proper report.

So although the vicar feared for his life he also took his role very seriously and stood firm in his resolve.

Just in case Lord Andras was abusive to her ward, she still gave Robin a way out to escape the marriage.

Even though personally Queen Tiandra still thought Lord Andras was Robin’s saving grace.

The vicar didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty for putting Robin on the spot.

Confusion from the bride was to be expected.

That’s why he advocated for counseling before marriage but this was an unusual occasion that called for special treatment.

In his short career the vicar had already been involved in some strange cases.

After marrying his fair share of young couples he had learned to expect anything to happen at any moment.

Marriage was not a joke, it was a serious decision that had binding consequences and should not be taken lightly.

The vicar was willing to wait as long as it takes to get an answer and he did not care that Lord Andras was getting impatient.

"Young man, are you participating in this wedding of your own free will or are you being forced to marry Lord Andras Mulciber? Blink twice if you are afraid to speak."

There was a hush amongst the spectators as everyone awaited Robin’s response.
