Taming the Hybrid Mate: Desired by Five Alphas-Chapter 237: Prom night
Andria’s POV
They both chuckled and started talking. I walked away, noticing I was third wheeling, such an awkward situation.
I walked to the hall alone. The hall was already filled up by the time I got there.
Everyone looked so happy and colourful, though some others still looked out of place.
Macy rushed towards me. "Have you had a drink?"
"No, I haven’t," I shouted above the noise blasting from the speakers.
"Ok, let me get you one. You need them to really enjoy tonight," she shouted back.
"Everyone getting tipsy before the contest, will there be clear judgment?" I asked.
"Well, the judges aren’t getting drunk until after the contest," she replied, taking another gulp.
"Sounds better. Are the judges here yet?" I asked.
"Yes, but they are at the back of the stage, doing some observations," she replied. "Hold on, let me get you a glass," she said, waving at a butler.
"Hey, over here, my friend needs a drink," she shouted as she waved at the butler.
"Hey...Macy, you have to take it easy; it seems like you are past tipsy," I warned, observing her gestures.
She was acting so carefree and was belching loudly without any form of control.
"I’m good, Ari, I promise. This is the best feeling, Ari. Just look around you, can you see, everyone has had a drink? That’s how to get the night started," she said, pointing to the happy faces around.
The butler arrived, and she took the two glasses on the tray, dropping her empty glass on it.
I snatched the two glasses of wine from her hand. "You have had enough," I warned.
"That’s not true, Ari. Give me my drink...you should have just said that you wanted two glasses of wine," she slurred.
"Your speech is becoming incoherent. I’m sure you don’t want to slump, so you have to stop."
"I heard you loud and clear, Ari," she said, tapping my shoulder.
"That’s better. Can you count my fingers?" I asked, raising two fingers.
"You have two fingers up," she replied slowly.
"Well, it’s not so bad, at least you would be up to enjoy the night," I teased her.
"I told you, I’m fine..."
"Welcome, Students of Ashwood and guests, to our prom night. We would be choosing our prom queen and King tonight from our contestants," the host announced.
The noise in the hall died down to the extent that I could hear a pin drop.
"If you must know, our contestants are very pretty, mannered and prepared. I think it would be a hard choice, but we would determine that tonight."
Everyone broke out into cheers, claps and some side talks.
"Before we call out the contestants, a student has a song she would like to present."
Everyone burst out clapping, releasing hearty shouts and laughter.
Michaela climbed up the stage. I was so surprised to see her after all this time. I was so cut up with all the recent happenings that I had totally forgotten Michaela ever existed.
She started with a slow, melodious tempo. I felt goosebumps rise on my skin as her voice echoed throughout the hall.
Allison, the whisper died down, and there was a sudden, grave silence; only Michael’s melodious tone was heard.
Her voice sounded like that of a siren, enchanting and alluring. I noticed everyone swayed along with her music as if there was a charm in every note she sang.
When she was done, everyone was left still longing for her voice. There was a loud ovation as she left the stage. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"I never knew Michaela could sing. She sounds very similar to a siren," Macy commented beside me, her expression filled with bewilderment.
"I’m just as surprised as you are. She didn’t perform on the talent show day, so I’m amazed she could sing this way," I replied, excitement and surprise laced in my tone.
I gulped the drink Macy had given me; it burned my throat slightly before leaving a sweet taste on my tongue.
In a few minutes, the song from the speakers grew louder. My eyes felt clearer, and my heart felt calm.
"There must be something in this drink," I whispered into Macy’s ear.
"I thought so too," she replied, winking at me.
"Now the contestants would come one after the other and present their beautiful speeches," the host announced, and a round of applause echoed throughout the hall.
Alexa came out first. She wore a beautiful purple dress and delivered a confident speech. Although she stuttered at the end, her look and smile were enough to earn her applause.
Liara was next, and she gave a brilliant speech that almost reminded me of how graceful she had been throughout the year before Jackson.
But she was different, and I knew it; speeches could be deceptive.
Allison was next. She fidgeted at first when she mounted the stage, fiddling with her dress.
Then she breathed and looked around before she began her own speech. She summarized everything Ashwood stood for and what it seemed to be standing for recently.
She spoke about royalty, its essence, and the responsibility it carries. And at the end of her speech, most students were moved to tears.
Some stood up and clapped, while some sobbed. The atmosphere was sober, indeed we have lost some students we began this year with due to their greed and wickedness.
Memories with Larissa flashed across my eyes, the times I spent with Liara and Mel came rushing through memories lane.
I wiped the single tear that escaped my eyes.
"Are you crying?" Macy sobbed.
"You are crying too," I replied her.
"I couldn’t help it," she replied. "I guess the alcohol I took earlier was just too much."
The male contestants climbed the stage too, one of the Titan brothers Lake was one of the contestants, Khalil was also one of the contestants and Jason was also part of them.
"When did Jason return?" Macy asked.
"I don’t know. It’s strange, whatever is happening between him and Sir Kaelric," I replied.
They delivered nice speeches too, some moving the crowd to tears and others to laughter and cheers. The feeling tonight was just beautiful.
"Now they have rendered beautiful speeches, with elegant appearances and outfits. It’s time to announce our winner. We judge our winner based on their manner of conduct throughout the academic session, thheir outfit today, the quality of speech rendered and their composure," the host announced.
There was a round of applause and anticipation filled the air.
