The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 180: To See Her ()
"Lords Melven and Kodin have arrived. You have only just restrained the beast, you should not get into any tasking activity yet, I will let them know you cannot see them today." Lucas suggested in concern.
Lucas was deeply worried that Askel was still too unstable, an hour ago, the beast was still in control and Askel was not himself.
Now, Askel had regained control but that did not mean that the beast was completely suppressed, it was not so easily overpowered.
Lucas knew it was prowling right on the surface, seeking a chance to overpower Askel again and it surely would, at the slightest opportunity.
"Zariah?" Askel asked instead.
"She will be returning to the Ethereal Palace today." Lucas reported. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"I need to see her." Askel asserted.
There was nothing more to be said beyond that, Askel had not laid eyes on Zariah in three days, not since Caedmon Grey had made his unreasonable claim.
Askel had also lost control at that inopportune moment and so he had not been able to find out just how Zariah was doing, how deeply affected she was by what had happened.
To the extent that she had even stayed far away from the Ethereal Palace in these days, putting a distance between herself and the troubling situation.
And Askel believed Zariah had done right, by going away, she had also blocked off all access Caedmon could have to her rather than sharing the same environment with him in the Ethereal Palace.
Askel also knew Zariah had made repeated attempts to find out his whereabouts and know his status, but he had been the one to give the order that all information be kept from her.
If Zariah heard of Askel’s condition, Askel knew she would rush over and the last thing Askel wanted was for Zariah to see him in that state.
Zariah brought out the very best in him, Askel had known this from the moment he first set eyes on her and the beast retreated to the very deepest parts of his mind, completely silent.
Whenever Zariah was with him, Askel did not have to worry about containing his intense emotions to avoid triggering the beast.
As long as those intense emotions were his deep feelings for Zariah, the beast never dared protest, it was completely and willingly suppressed.
There was just something about Zariah that kept the beast and its tyranny at bay. With Zariah, Askel could truly and completely be himself.
And Askel loved her even more for it. Because she was the one person in the universe who could tame a man like him.
Askel loved her for much more than that, he loved her for everything that she was and everything that she was not.
Even more than that, Askel loved her for every word she said and every word that she did not.
And even more than that, Askel loved her for everything that she loved and everything that she hated,
Askel loved her for all she gave and even the things that she would not give, for all she believed in and even her fears and doubts, Askel loved it all.
And Askel greatly feared that if Zariah saw that ugly, detestable side of him... she would not be able to accept it.
"My King, Alpha Zariah has arrived castle grounds." Lucas relayed to Askel.
Lucas’ words drew Askel out of his thoughts and Askel nodded, fetching his robes, he quickly got dressed and headed out of his quarters.
It had been a few days since Askel had disappeared and so as Askel walked down the halls, he could sense the baffled gazes of the attendants on him.
Askel did not pay it any heed knowing Lucas would take care of any side talks or gossips so that it was quelled before it could even spread.
Soon, Askel arrived at the meeting hall and from a far distance, he had already picked up on Zariah’s familiar and ever enticing scent.
He pushed open the doors to the meeting hall and strode in. Askel registered unconsciously that there were a few other people already present in the hall but Askel had eyes for only one.
And the moment Askel stepped into the hall, Zariah’s gaze had also found his just as she bid greetings to Lord Kodin.
"Mhijani..." Askel called to his beloved woman in a breath of relief.
Crossing the room with large strides, Askel arrived by Zariah’s side in the blink of an eye and pulled her into his arms, hugging her tightly to himself.
A growl sounded from somewhere in the hall but Askel did not pay it any mind, he could not even waste a moment growing furious, not with how dearly he had missed Zariah.
"I have missed you terribly, Mhijani." Askel whispered in a low tone, even though he knew his voice was still audible enough for everyone else to hear his words.
For a moment longer than Askel could bear, Zariah just stood still in his arms, not returning his hug or making any moves, like one frozen in place.
But it was only after Askel had said those words, his voice seemed to knock her out of her daze and she lifted her hands to settle on his lower back, her acceptance warming Askel’s heart.
"I should have come to see you, forgive me." Askel apologized knowing Zariah had probably wondered what exactly was keeping him away for three days even with all that was going on.
"You have your difficulties, I can understand that much." Zariah replied.
"Nothing as difficult as being away from you Mhijani...not a single thing." Askel swore, nuzzling his head into Zariah’s neck.
Askel sucked in a deep breath, delighting in that familiar scent that never ceased to stir him, leaving him longing for more of it.
Askel had already forgotten they were in the presence of many others and it was only when Lord
Kodin cleared his throat loudly, only then did Askel remember their surrounding.
