The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 232: An Offer ()
Zariah’s attention was drawn to a fervent knock on the door and she glanced up from where she sat at the desk in Askel’s private study.
’Who could it be? I told Nile and the others I do not wish to be disturbed.’ Zariah wondered.
Zariah contemplated ignoring it, but there were many others who might have reasons to seek out Askel and this was not Zariah’s quarters but Askel’s.
Zariah groaned quietly, glancing down at the only piece of clothing she had on which was Askel’s satin button down shirt, Zariah breathed a sigh.
She got up to her feet and stepped out of the study, heading to the main door leading into Askel’s quarters, or what Zariah would say was an apartment of its own.
Zariah could already tell who it was as she approached the door and her brows furrowed slightly, while Torin hissed in distaste within her.
’This time, I will kill her for sure!’ Torin vowed.
It had only been a few days since she tossed the very same she-wolf off the balcony for laying a hand on Askel, Zariah had let the matter go with the awareness of Queen Sancia’s involvement,
And Zariah had assumed with Askel’s declaration of their fully consummated bond, both Queen Sancia and her aide would understand and stay away from her. She had not anticipated the she-wolf still dared to come here.
Zariah reached for the door knob and pulled the door open, raising a curious brow when the she-wolf yelped in horror at the sight of Zariah.
"Alpha... Alpha Zariah..." Vivienne stuttered out, her fear palpable.
Zariah’s aura was completely suppressed, but Zariah knew the previous event had been more than enough to teach Vivienne her place, at least Zariah hoped it was.
"I... I did not know... you would be here..." Vivienne stuttered out, taking a few steps back to put some distance between herself and Zariah.
"What is that reaction? You came here with your own two legs, who were you expecting to see, if not me?" Zariah asked blankly.
"I...I..." Vivienne stumbled over her words.
Zariah rolled her eyes, leaning against the doorsill, she crossed her arms.
"If you came to find Askel, he is not here right now." Zariah relayed directly.
Vivienne regained her composure at that, though barely. But the thoughts of why she had come here made her swallow down her fear.
"I... I really need to see His Grace, it is a matter of grave urgency. I know you do not want to see me right now, but please let me see Askel... I will only take a moment."
"I know if you do not consent, he will not see me. So please, I am asking this of you because I have no other options..." Vivienne pleaded desperately.
Zariah blinked, her gaze was completely blank as she stared at Vivienne, clearly unmoved by the tremors in her tone or her teary eyes.
"My father wishes to send me back to a place of horrors to me. Askel knows all I went through, I only need Askel to speak to my father... I am willing to go anywhere else if it pleases you, please!" Vivienne pleaded desperately.
"You did not appear to be such a fragile woman when last I saw you... perhaps I was wrong."
"As I said, he is not here." Zariah replied simply and slammed the door shut.
Vivienne blinked, staring at the door. Her hands clenched into tight fists by her sides, as it dawned on her that it would be impossible to see Askel, as long as Alpha Zariah had a say in it.
Vivienne retreated, heading out of the Ethereal Palace, she shifted into her wolf form and shot off into the woods.
Her mind reeled with thoughts, and she ran even faster, her paws barely touching the earth.
Vivienne was not certain exactly where she was running to, she just knew she had to get away. If no one in the Ethereal Palace would stand for her, the best she could do was get as far away as possible...as long as she did not have to return to that life.
It was not long before Vivienne came to a sharp halt as a silhouette blocked her path, coming to stand before her.
Vivienne snarled fiercely but her snarl died out when she sensed the aura of an Ethereal Alpha.
Vivienne knew who this Alpha was, he was the Alpha of the Waning Moon Pack, Caedmon Grey and the second mate of Alpha Zariah.
’But what could he want from me?’ Vivienne wondered.
"Lady Vivienne, I guessed you would come by this path. There is clothing behind those trees, you should get changed and have a talk with me." Caedmon offered.
Vivienne turned to take her leave, she was not in the mood to have a talk with anyone but Caedmon’s next words stopped her in her tracks.
"Do you think you can escape Alpha Kirk by running away?" Caedmon asked directly.
Vivienne froze up in place, turning back around to face Caedmon. Her claws dug into the ground.
’How could he know she was in the process of fleeing from her mate’s impending arrival?’ Vivienne wondered.
"As we speak, Kirk will be arriving at the Ethereal Palace by nightfall tomorrow. You have enough time to flee if you choose to, but how difficult would it be for an Ethereal Alpha to track you down? Especially with the support of your father, Elder Jared." Caedmon posed a question.
Vivienne had also thought about it, exactly how far away could she get before Kirk would catch up to her?
"You do not have to shift if you do not wish to, listening is good enough. I have come with an offer for you, one you might find interesting." Caedmon continued.
’What could he have to offer that I would want? I have no business with him or his pack.’ Vivienne thought.
"I know you must be thinking, why would he have an offer for me when we are not acquainted?" Caedmon guessed.
"But we are more acquainted than you realize, if I do say so myself. I must confess, I have been your biggest fan in the past month..."
"And why, you might wonder? Because, had you succeeded in claiming Alpha King Askel, then Alpha Zariah would be mine." Caedmon revealed, his tone tight.
