Chapter 236: A Note (Ch.236)

Vivienne was still seated on the balcony in her home, mulling over some things when Elder Jared cleared his throat behind her, calling her attention.

Vivienne passed her father a blank look, her brows narrowed slightly but after only a moment, her expression softened and she lowered her head slightly to a small bow.

"Good afternoon, Father." Vivienne greeted.

Elder Jared allowed a small smile, despite their current differences, the father and daughter pair had spent many years depending on only each other since Vivienne’s mother passed on, that bond was not something that could be destroyed overnight.

"I received a summon from Her Grace, Queen Sancia. I will be heading out to meet her in the human settlement." Elder Jared said to Vivienne.

"What does she want, this time?" Vivienne muttered beneath her breath,

Vivienne was still displeased at the thought of how Queen Sancia had quickly distanced herself from Vivienne and dissociated from the situation, leaving Vivienne stranded and till this moment, Queen Sancia had not said a word of it and clearly did not care.

"I am not certain. It is strange she would wish to visit the human settlement she had not been to for over a decade, believing herself too noble to be amongst humans." Elder Jared responded with a shake of his head.

Vivienne raised a brow at her father’s words. Knowing of her father’s past intimate relationship with Queen Sancia before both parties had found their respective mates, Vivienne had never heard her father speak ill of Queen Sancia, not even if every one of the royal lycan elders were dissatisfied with the Queen.

Elder Jared had always been a staunch supporter of the Queen, so much so that Vivienne had grown fond of Queen Sancia from a tender age and even called her aunt.

However, in this moment, Vivienne could see her father had finally and truly put an end to his lingering attachments, after more than three decades and Vivienne knew that from this event, Queen Sancia’s true face had also dawned on her father as it had on her.

"You should go then. Do not speak of me to her... since she has chosen to wash her hands off, then let it be so from this moment on." Vivienne said to her father in a tight tone.

Elder Jared breathed a quiet sigh but he nodded his head in agreement and headed back into the house.

However, he stopped halfway. Pulling out a note.

"An attendant of the Queen delivered this last night, alongside the summons. I contemplated if I would hand it to you or just dispose of it. But you might want to know, whatever she has to say." Elder Jared told Vivienne.

He handed the sealed note to her and Vivienne accepted it with a frown.

"I received word from Alpha Kirk as well..." Elder Jared began, taking note of how Vivienne stiffened at the mention of her mate.

"His arrival will be delayed by a few days, due to circumstances he did not mention. However, he will still be here to retrieve you as he promised and assures you will have nothing to worry about on returning with him." Elder Jared related to Vivienne.

Vivienne did not respond to that and Elder Jared was not truly expecting a response, he knew his daughter was still unwilling to reconcile with her mate after everything he had done,

But Elder Jared still believed this was the best and only way Vivienne could truly make up for what she had done, and prove to Alpha Zariah that she had given up on King Askel.

And it was the only way to force Vivienne to give up on King Askel as well, it was as much for the reassurance of his own self more so than anyone else’s, though Elder Jared loathed to admit it.

"Be safe, then. Do not go out too far and please stay away from the Ethereal Palace. Thankfully, our home is a good enough distance from the palace grounds."

"I chose to live apart from the ethereal palace for your mother’s reassurance and I did not agree to the invites to return to the palace grounds even when it was just us two left, but now.... I see it was the best decision."

"Knowing your ambitious nature, Queen Sancia must have long sought an opportunity to make use of you for her own benefits. She may have succeeded much earlier, if I had let us get too close to her." Elder Jared muttered.

Elder Jared’s gaze lingered on Vivienne for a moment longer before he took his leave and when Vivienne was by herself, she opened the note. But her eyes went wide as she read through the contents.

’This is your cue... tonight...’ Were the words written on the note.

Words that sent a cold chill of anxiety down Vivienne’s spine.

"This is not a message from Her Grace... this is... Caedmon..." Vivienne murmured to herself aloud.

There was less time to be concerned with how Caedmon’s note had been delivered through Queen Sancia’s attendant, what was more worrisome was the implications of the contents of the note.

’But if the note reads tonight... and was delivered yesterday, it means...’ Vivienne’s thought trailed off.

"Father unknowingly delayed the message, I was meant to feed the potion to Askel last night!" Vivienne realized. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Vivienne glanced up at the sky, it was early noon. The agreed time had long gone by, but could it ever be too late? What mattered was the fact that she pulled it off successfully, was it not?

Vivienne got up to her feet and hurried into her room, searching through her drawer for the vial which she had left securely.

Vivienne soon found it and she lifted the contents up to her view, a host of doubts still churned through her, so much so that Vivienne had blocked out her wolf, knowing she would have more to say.

It took a moment before

Vivienne steeled her heart and headed out with purposeful strides.
