The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 243: The True Serum ()
Zariah clenched her fists and suppressed the rage that quickly surged within her veins and she internally prayed for calm as she turned to meet Queen Sancia’s disdainful glare.
"I hope you do not forget that as much as I...do not care, it was not I who caused this result, but you who served as the bait to lure your son out to the human settlement... and while you stood there and watched, unable to do anything, he was pushed off the edge."
"This ’care’ of yours which you have in abundance, of what worth is it?" Zariah asked blankly.
She did not wait to hear what Queen Sancia would say in response but instead walked past her,
"What do you know?! You don’t know anything!" Queen Sancia shrieked after Zariah but Zariah ignored her.
At that moment, Lord Kodin arrived from an inner hallway in the dungeons and his presence silenced any further words Queen Sancia might have had for Zariah.
Lord Kodin’s gaze first settled on Zariah and his brows furrowed slightly.
"Zari, I do not remember inviting you here." Lord Kodin pointed out that Zariah’s presence was unexpected and unintended.
"Think for a moment about who Askel is to me and then repeat that statement." Zariah replied in a chilling tone.
At this point, Zariah was no longer in the mood to be cordial, not even if the person in question was Lord Kodin who was like family to her.
"Fine." Lord Kodin conceded after a moment of quiet.
"This will be difficult for each and everyone of you to witness as you are the few closest to Askel. However after running several tests to ascertain what exactly happened in the human settlement, the supernatural council has come by a... disturbing discovery." Lord Kodin announced, now addressing all four of them.
"I must first state that we have only just discovered this and it confirms the need to run more advanced tests, as this discovery provides no answers but even more questions. However, it is only right you are all aware of this... and why Askel will not be released from custody." Lord Kodin made clear, this time his gaze was fixed on Queen Sancia.
It was not news to anyone that Queen Sancia had been actively seeking methods to oppose the decision of the supernatural council to apprehend Askel.
And then Lord Kodin’s gaze moved to Zariah, Zariah pursed her lips slightly but she said no words.
"Very well. I shall consider it you are all in agreement and there will be no funny business going forward." Lord Kodin declared.
He then turned to the council vampires who were the only council members to have accompanied him. Lord Kodin nodded and then he walked over to stand by Zariah so he also faced Askel’s cell.
Zariah was not certain what Lord Kodin was about to reveal. She looked on in silence, gritting her teeth to suppress the urge to go over to Askel.
The council vampires created a slight opening in the barrier and went in through it, one of them held a black case.
Zariah’s heart ached as she watched Askel glance up at the council vampires tiredly before he lowered his head again and did not acknowledge them further.
The barrier was sealed again at their entry and so Zariah could tell Askel still did not know they were all present here to witness this.
Zariah stiffened when one of the council vampires revealed a syringe from the case.
"What are you trying to do?!" Queen Sancia exclaimed, also alarmed.
Lord Kodin ignored their reactions and the council vampire proceeded to draw some of Askel’s blood which he stored in a vial.
All through which, Askel gave no reactions. It seemed it was not the first time this was happening since Askel had been apprehended and the thought of it did not sit well with Zariah.
"For what purpose do you draw his blood?! How is this related to anything?!" Zariah hissed as the council vampires stepped out of the barrier and were once again in the hall.
"You will understand in a moment, Alpha Zariah." Vilma, the female council vampire replied in a sympathetic tone.
As expected, Lord Kodin said nothing. There were many other circular cells around and while most were unoccupied, there was a particular cage in which three ragged looking men were chained.
Zariah had ignored their existence until now when the council vampires took the case where they had kept Askel’s blood over to that cell.
"Those are rogues." Lucas stated the obvious.
"They should not be imprisoned here. These cells are reserved for high profile criminals." Declan supported.
"Naturally, they are imprisoned here for a reason." Lord Kodin spoke up this time.
He nodded to Vilma to proceed and she entered the cell. The rogues were chained down, though they displayed the expected aggression, there was not much they could do to hinder the council vampire.
Vilma walked up to one of the rogues, particularly the most scrawny looking and with the aid of her fellow council vampire, they injected Askel’s blood into the veins of the rogue.
At this point, whilst everyone else was baffled and agitated by what they witnessed, a feeling of Deja vu settled heavily on Zariah’s heart.
And it only took a few heartbeats before it became clear to her as right before her eyes, the rogue released an earth shaking roar as his bones began cracking and reforming in odd angles.
"He is...he is turning forsaken!" Queen Sancia exclaimed in horror.
It was in the exact same way it had played out in the previous lifetime, the only difference was that the victim was not a rogue, but the Crimson Alpha herself.
Zariah had always wondered, what exactly had been injected into her system that had been the final act to completely disgrace and destroy her and the legacy of Crimson Moon... and the answer to it now stood before Zariah’s eyes.
Zariah’s widened gaze moved from the horrific sight of the rogue turning and the alarm of his cell mates and her gaze fixed on Askel.
’The serum Caedmon used on me in the previous lifetime...it was your blood?’ Zariah thought in horror.
