The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid-Chapter 29: Offering to be His Bride
It was common for the two brothers to disagree with each other. However, this time, Leonard looked away first. π§ππππΈπ¦π£πππ·ππ.π€π°π
βSince when does the first prince of this kingdom have to bow down to lick the prime ministerβs boots?β Leonard asked sarcastically.
βIβm not asking you to lick anyoneβs boots. Iβm just asking you to be nice to his daughter!β Darius yelled back.
βIβm always nice to her...β Leonard muttered.
βYou know very well that that isnβt the kind of nice Iβm referring to,β Darius retorted.
βWhat do you want me to do?β Leonard asked with complete disinterest.
βCan you just please...visit her at her palace? She just moved here, so please welcome her properly,β Darius said desperately.
βI donβt want to...β Leonard stated emotionlessly.
Darius clenched his teeth. He always knew that Leonard was highly stubborn. A soft sigh escaped Dariusβs lips before his grey eyes returned to Leonardβs face.
βYou did not turn up to the afternoon tea party either. She asked for you, and I had to cover up for your absence. Undoubtedly, she has told her father about it,β Darius said.
βI donβt care what her father has to say, and I have no idea why you do,β Leonard snapped.
βI donβt particularly care about the prime minister, but he does influence the royal council. Let me remind you that the head of that council is the King. Our father...β Darius solemnly reminded his brother.
Leonard cursed loudly and fluently before his brows drew together in a scowl. Once again, he hated taking over the throne and thought Darius would make a better king.
βWhy donβt you do it? Why donβt you go to her palace and welcome her,β Leonard suggested with a careless shrug.
βBecause she wants to marry you and not me!β Darius yelled.
βYou mean that her father wants her to marry me,β Leonard quickly corrected.
βItβs the same thing. The prime minister wants to make his daughter the next queen. Our father seems to be in full support of it, and so are all the leading politicians in this nation,β Darius stated as his eyes stared deeply into his brotherβs.
It was hard for Darius to understand why Leonard was extra stubborn about paying Lady Regina a visit to her new palace. After all, it wasnβt like those two were strangers to each other. Being part of a very prominent aristocratic family, Regina had spent many years of her childhood in the palace. With their parents being close, just like their ancestors, Regina and Leonard, along with the other princes, grew up as playmates. Everyone who had witnessed their childhood days together would have realized that Regina and Leonard had a special connection to one another. They were always together.
As time passed by and the two of them grew up, they were never strangers to one another. Regina visited the palace often and spent time with Leonard. As far as Darius was away, the two got along very well. However, he also knew that they were not lovers.
βLeo. Just go and see her. I donβt know why youβre being so stubborn about this. You two are...or were...very close...β Darius said calmly.
Leonard seemed thoughtful for a moment before he sighed in resignation.
βIβll go see her. I havenβt seen her for too long, anyways...β Leonard said after finally giving in.
βBy the way, I heard that Regina has summoned the virgin woman that you purchased to be her maid,β Darius said before shooting Leonard a pointed look.
βYou met her?β Leonard asked with a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice.
βShe was working at the tea party. The poor girl got into an accident and got cuts on her arms. They were not deep, but I decided to take her to the infirmary anyway,β Darius said with a shrug of his shoulders.
βHmm...is that so? You should have told me earlier...β Leonard murmured.
Darius wondered what he should have told Leonard earlier. The fact that the girl got into an accident or that Regina, or perhaps, both summoned her?
βIf I did, would you have visited Reginaβs palace immediately?β Darius asked in wonder.
βMaybe...β Leonard mumbled with a distant look in his blue eyes.
...
**In Reginaβs Palace**
I stared at the beautiful palace in front of me, which had marble decorations. The palaceβs architecture was breathtaking and very unfamiliar to anything I had seen. Being a lowly maid in the palace gave me few opportunities to see palaces like this. It was a far cry from the maidsβ quarters and the gardens, which Iβve seen so far from the palace grounds. I felt the entire palace must be huge, with many buildings I havenβt seen or been to yet.
A guard led me to Lady Reginaβs palace on foot, and after walking for quite a while, I arrived there. The woman I saw earlier at the tea party in the garden was waiting for me in front of the palace. If I remember correctly, her name is Sophie.
βWelcome to Lady Reginaβs palace. My name is Sophie, and Iβm the ladyβs maid,β the woman introduced herself proudly.
βHello. My name is Mila. Madame Cassandra told me that I should start working here for Lady Regina today,β I told her politely.
βThatβs right. Please follow me,β Sophie said as she turned and began walking.
I followed right behind her as my eyes wandered towards the large garden with many tall trees with dark green leaves. Like the other gardens on the palace grounds, this garden seemed well-maintained and beautifully decorated with various sculptures of fantasy creatures. To my surprise, Sophie led me deeper into the gardens instead of taking me into the palace building.
βThis is an extraordinary tree, and the Lady favors it,β Sophie said as she gestured at the gardenβs most prominent and tallest tree.
