The Alpha's Fated Outcast: Rise Of The Moonsinger.-Chapter 311: The beginning of the end...
Chapter 311 The beginning of the end...
Lyla
I jolted awake to the sounds of commotion and Ramsey hurriedly pulling on his clothes. The room was still dark, pre-dawn light barely filtering through the curtains.
"What's happening?" I mumbled, still disoriented from sleep.
"We're under attack," Ramsey said tersely. "Get dressed quickly."
That snapped me fully awake. I sat up, pushing hair from my face. "Nathan?"
"Worse." Ramsey strapped on his weapons belt. "A large army of Ferals and their Trinaxes is approaching White Mountain. It's likely the Dark One himself."
The mention of the Trinax sent cold fear through me. If they were here, this wasn't just another battle. This was the war we'd been dreading.
I leapt from bed and dressed frantically, choosing clothes I could fight in—sturdy pants, boots, and a reinforced leather jacket. As I braided my hair back, Ramsey checked his ammunition.
"Ready?" he asked.
I nodded, and we raced from the room. The corridor outside was chaotic with warriors rushing to their positions and civilians being directed to shelter areas.
We found Lenny, Caius, Nanny, and Freya huddled in intense conversation near the command centre. The moment they spotted Ramsey, they turned and bowed in respect.
"How severe is it?" Ramsey demanded.
"Our armies are holding the line for now," Caius replied. "There's been no attack yet. I think they're laying siege."
"Where are the former Ferals?" I asked, scanning the room for Kieran or any of the others who had pledged themselves to me.
"They were among the first responders," Lenny explained. "It was because of them that we knew the Ferals and Trinax were coming. They ran to the border immediately."
I nodded, torn between pride in their loyalty and fear for their safety. They'd fought so hard to regain their humanity—now they were risking it all again.
Nanny approached me, taking my hands in hers. "You must do what you can," she urged. "Remember, you'll be fighting with your elite group. Weaken the Ferals and let them finish the job."
I took a deep breath, considering our options. "Or I can try to turn them normal. I know it seems like too much, but it's our best solution. The more Ferals we convert to our side, the more warriors we'll have and the more vulnerable the Dark One will become."
Nanny's face creased with worry. "The ritual nearly drained you last time, and that was with only three hundred and fifty Ferals. We're talking about hundreds now, maybe thousands."
Before she could continue her protest, Ramsey returned from speaking with a scout who had just arrived. "Lyla, come with me," he called urgently. "There's something you need to see."
I squeezed Nanny's hands reassuringly before following Ramsey out of the command centre. We hurried through the pack house and up a flight of stairs that led to the observation tower. From this vantage point, we could see for miles in every direction.
It was dawn already, and it was bright enough for me to see whatever it was that Ramsey wanted me to see.
The sight that greeted me stole my breath. The northern border of White Mountain territory was lined with Ferals—not dozens or hundreds, but thousands. They stood in perfect formation, unnaturally still for creatures known for their savage unpredictability, and behind them loomed darker shapes with faces that could not be seen – Trinaxes. Each of them seemed to be controlling a particular unit of Ferals. "Goddess," I whispered. "There must be ten thousand of them."
"At least," Ramsey confirmed grimly. "And look there." He pointed to a hill behind the armies where a lone figure stood. Even from this distance, something about that silhouette made my skin crawl. "The Dark One."
"Xander," I breathed.
"Yes," Ramsey nodded. "It seems he's no longer in his human form. In the Xander you know," as he spoke, he placed the binoculars to his eyes again. He looks different. Older and more powerful. At least that's the kind of aura he gives off."
I studied the distant figure, wondering what had come over Xander. I was also fighting the urge not to look at it. "Why aren't they attacking?" I decided to change the topic instead.
"They're waiting for something," Ramsey replied. "Or someone."
A chill ran down my spine as I realised the truth. "They're waiting for me."
Ramsey's expression confirmed my suspicion. "The prophecy. 'When the Moonsinger steps into the fire, darkness shall be consumed by light.'"
"And 'When the twin moons rise, the Moonsinger's sacrifice shall break the eternal chains. The Dark One returns," I added, recalling the fragment he'd shown me.
"The twin moons don't rise for three more weeks," Ramsey pointed out. "Why is he here now?"
Before I could answer, Lenny burst into the observation tower. "They are attacking. They're trying to bring down the walls that protect the White Mountain Region. If they do that, with such a large amount of Ferals, we won't stand a chance. The wall is the only way to keep them out."
Ramsey ran his hand through his hair. At that moment, my heart leapt with a mix of love and sadness. Love for the man in front of me, who would do anything to protect me and his people, and sadness because this was probably the hardest thing for him to do.
I knew he knew that I was the solution, but again, I was the love of his life, and his duty was to his people first.
"What if we take the fight far away from here?" I suggested, breaking the tense silence. "Let's face it, it's me they want, and the only reason why Xander is going through all this is me. Once I am out of the White Mountain Region, they won't attack it. They would follow me wherever I go."
By this time, Nanny and Freya, with Caius, had joined us.
"It's true, Ramsey. You cannot protect Lyla because we need her. Our warriors will fall in less than five minutes if they ever face those ferals. They are no match for them, but Lyla will make it easier for them. We need to get her to the frontline now!"
"And give the Dark One what he wants?" Ramsey sighed. "They'll be too much for her and her Elite warriors. We need another plan."
"That's what you think because you do not know the extent to which her powers can be stretched. A Moonsinger is very powerful. The Moonsinger, before Lyla was born, was a soldier, and with his power and his ability to wield a sword, he killed 10,000 Ferals all by himself. That was how he got to the Dark One, and we know the rest."
"Lyla is not the former Moonsinger. She's my mate, and I love this woman so much. I'm not interested in what one Moonsinger can or cannot do. I don't doubt her powers, but I am scared. I will feel uneasy knowing that I entrusted her life in the hands of…"
"Then fight with her," Lenny pitched in, interrupting him. "Just like what the High Priestess said, you are worried about her life, you think you're best for the job. You can fight alongside her and her twenty Elite Warriors."
Nanny's eyes widened. "When Silver Wolf and Golden Sun unite," she murmured. "That would make perfect sense. Oh, gods… that is the real meaning behind unlocking the power of the White Moon Throne. You do not need a marriage, we need this."
We all turned to her, confused. "What are you talking about?" ƒrēenovelkiss.com
"It's complicated, but no one has ever unlocked the power of the White Moon Throne. The White Moon Throne can only choose its successor and nothing else for centuries. Perhaps, that's why Xander is so desperate for the energy of the power because that is the only way to control our world."
"I don't follow," I frown.
"I will explain later," Nanny said excitedly. "Both of you should fight beside each other. Lyla weakens the Feral, and you fight. It's that simple. The Great Walls will take the powers of a priestess with equal powers like me to bring down the defence spells, and it would take almost eight hours… enough time for a good battle to be fought."
"They're attacking the sentries at the walls. They cannot bring it down, so they're climbing over," Lenny informed us.
Ramsey grabbed my arm. "We need to get to the front line. Now!"
We raced down the stairs, the tower still shaking with each impact against the walls. Warriors streamed toward the northern border, weapons ready. Civilians ran in the opposite direction, seeking the underground shelters.
Ramsey and I got into the vehicle, which already had our warriors in it. Without preamble, we jumped into the car and started riding to the gate that led out to the Great Wall.
As we drove, Lenny was getting updates from the warriors at the wall.
"Our defensive strategy just went out the window," Lenny announced. "They're hitting us from all sides simultaneously. Since they cannot destroy the wall, they are trying to break down the gates. They're also fighting with weapons. Brace yourself, people. It's going to be a long day.
