The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 108: A strange hot man in the woods.
~Dahlia’s POV~
I stood stiffly, my eyes scanning the horizon but I couldn’t find anyone or anything. There was nothing in sight, not even the slightest movement whatsoever, but I still couldn’t shake out the feeling of being watched.
There was definitely someone around. Someone so stealthy and sleek that I couldn’t make out where they were or what they were.
The furs along my spine stood on end when that feeling intensified and I let out a small shaky breath when it felt as though invisible eyes were narrowing at me.
’Who is there?’ My wolf mind-linked me but I couldn’t respond, especially as I had no answer to that question myself. Especially when I knew I couldn’t risk shifting now to check, giving whoever the intruder was an opportunity to see me in my human form.
To find me like this...
And to risk my secret being out in the open.
If I shifted now, whoever would see me would know that I was not an Omega. Whoever would see me would find out I was a silver wolf— a rare sight that would bring the worst possible attention to me.
A sudden snapping of roots not so far from me made me freeze in motion, and my wild eyes searched the bushes around. There was still nothing... No movements.
But someone was watching me.
Someone was following me around... like a predator circling its prey, waiting for the right moment to pounce. Only that I would never give this predator the chance to do that, and I hoped to pounce before they could even think about it.
But they can see you, and you cannot. My wolf supplied, causing me to roll my eyes before letting out a ground-shattering snarl.
The ground underneath me trembled. The bushes around creaked as they fought to stay upright. My eyes scanned the forest one more time as the realization dawned on me that I wasn’t the one causing this wave.
It wasn’t my snarl making the forest floors to quake, it was the intruder’s.
I froze.
And like a nightmarish vision, a large black wolf with glowing red eyes materialized in front of me so suddenly that I took a retreating step back.
My breath caught in my throat when I saw it, and trust me when I say it was huge.
Alpha Zarek’s wolf, to me, was a very large one. My own wolf was also big. Big enough to make my heart swell with pride whenever I thought about it, almost as big as Alpha Zarek’s. But this intruder’s wolf dwarved mine with ease.
And his...
It made me look like a pup. Like I was nothing insignificant before him.
I bared my teeth at it in defiance, snarling to show just how vicious I could be if I wanted to, but to my utmost dismay, it didn’t lunge at me like I had expected it to. It simply watched me like I was something spectacular. Like I was an alien of some sort or a means of entertainment.
The large wolf took small steps forward and again, I bared my teeth aggressively, snapping my jaws open when he laid on the floor, on his belly and kept his glowing red eyes trained on me.
I balked. The hell?
’Shift!’ The intruder called out into my head, and for the first few seconds, I was stunned not because he’d just commanded me with an Alpha aura, but because he had been able to mindlink me even though he didn’t know who I was.
My eyes flashed with suspicion but I refused to do as told.
Because hell, this could be another mind game.... This could be someone that had been paid by Alpha Zarek or even Jennifer to follow me around.
’Shift’ The large wolf commanded again and this time, I stumbled backwards when the trees around rattled in strain.
How is he so powerful?
When I still wouldn’t do as told, the wolf leapt to its feet, and in response, I instantly went into defense mode, growling when his musky scent assaulted my nostrils. However, he called my bluff again when he soon began to shift effortlessly, ignoring my wandering eyes, and ignoring the fact that I was a complete stranger alone with him in the woods, and in the middle of the night.
I mean, what if I was a psychotic murderer?
Or a feral?
Or no, what if he was all of these?
A lump formed at the base of my throat when I turned my head back in his direction, and if I wasn’t in my wolf form, I would have gasped at the magnificence that now stood in front of me.
He was a stranger alright— just like I suspected but he wasn’t a spy like I thought he was. Damn, nothing about him screamed ’spy’, but everything about him came off as dangerous. Mouthwatering but dangerous all the same.
He had a well formed face sporting glowing red eyes, full dark pink lips and a nose so sharp and pointy, I could swear he uses it to fight whenever he runs out of weapons.
His jawline was lethal. And I mean it in literal L. E. T. H. A. L. way, and girl, I swooned when he smirked at me mischievously, exposing a deep dimple on his left cheek.
"Now, you’ve seen me, love. As you can see, I’m not a threat. However, I’d like to see you too." His voice was deep, guttural, like that of the beast in ’the beauty and the beast’ folklore, and my stomach dropped when I noticed I was swooning. I was drooling, and I was having inappropriate thoughts about this hot as sin stranger.
"Dahlia... let me see you." He drawled, and as soon as my name left his lips, I froze.
How does he—?
"I know you have questions. I can see it in your eyes. So shift please let me talk to you..." his voice trailed off as he paused to sniff the air around us, and with widened eyes, he quickly added; "someone’s coming this way... they’re still a few miles away and that’s enough time for us to talk."
I struggled to make sure my eyes didn’t stray from his face to his abs... or even the V of his pelvis—knowing fully well that there was nothing underneath—while he spoke to me because damnnnnn, he was hot.
And do you know what makes him even more panty-dripping hot?
The way he looked at me so softly... so sweetly, anyone would think we were a thing if they haven’t met us before.
"Dahlia?"
Ohh the way my name rolls off his tongue...
’No’ I mindlinked him and I saw him freeze.
"I already know who you are, so what else are you afraid of? Or do you think I would return to Alpha Zarek’s pack just to expose you?"
’We’re not at Shadowfang?’
"No, we’re at the Hollowfangs Pack— my pack." He drawled, making my eyes widen in shock.
Oh, shit shit, I strayed. And now I am in the Enemy’s territory.
What’s worse? I was standing face to face with their Alpha— one who I must’ve been inappropriately ogling at only seconds ago.
I dropped my head in a gesture of respect, but that was all that it was— respect. I wasn’t shifting. I will not shift.
’Whatever you want to say to me, say it this way.’ I snapped through the mindlink, and I was stunned when he chuckled at that, his deep rich velvety laughter swirling around us, carried vibrantly by the wind.
Alpha Whatever-his-name-was threw his head back in amusement, his red eyes glinting with so much excitement, it hurt to look.
He muttered; "You’re fierce. I like fierce."
’And I’d like to go back to my pack now, please. I didn’t even know I went this far. It was a mistake, I promise.’ I answered, ignoring the way his eyes thinned into fierce slits, and ignoring the way his stares seemed to light my skin— fur— on fire.
Wait what, how’s he able to evoke such feelings in me? I thought... I thought only Alpha Zarek could do that?
"You want to leave without hearing me out first?" His voice came suddenly, snapping me out of my reverie and my eyes shot up just in time to find him still watching me, his gaze still intense... still soft. I looked away.
’I’m sorry.’
His face fell. "I don’t know if we’ll ever get an opportunity to talk another time and I sincerely hope that we do. You need to know that—" he stopped. Sniff sniff. "The person’s closer, and they’re from Shadowfang." He snapped in a sharp tone, immediately making my eyes widen in fear.
’They cannot see me like this!’ I rushed out desperately, momentarily forgetting that he was the stranger and that I should be wary of him.
He flashed me a genuine smile— one that definitely reached his red gleaming eyes, and then he commanded; "Then shift. I’ll take care of the rest. You’re in my pack, remember?"
For the first time this evening, my defiance deflated like a popped balloon. I squeezed my eyes shut and took in a deep breath, wincing when my bones began to pop.
However, I had just shifted into my human form when I felt a presence behind me—it was him— but I was too stunned to react.
And then he snapped my neck in one clean move.
