The Astral soul system-Chapter 133: She is an impossibility
The dean sighed
"The rest of you can leave. I just wanted you to know you have to be more careful from now on, and you’ll resume classes tomorrow"
They all nodded and were about to leave when the dean suddenly said.
"Not you. You stay for a while" pointing to Zyro
Zyro was a bit confused about why he needed to stay but he didn’t voice any complaints and stopped while his classmates all looked at him with worried expressions. Hopefully the dean wouldn’t notice that his attitude was different.
They all left, leaving the two alone in the room
"Take a seat"
Zyro complied and sat down in front of the dean, shuffling his feet a bit.
"What’s up gramps?"
The dean sized him up a few times before asking.
"Something’s different about you...do you feel alright?"
"Well i am feeling a bit lightheaded, waking up to yourself falling off a building isn’t the nicest thing ever but other than that I’m fine, and exactly the same i always was"
Zyro answered honestly and the dean seemed satisfied, but still curious about something.
"I’m just used to you just acting like a -"
"A robot,or a doll?", Zyro asked, feeling this was the most apt description of Zen.
"In some ways"
Zyro chuckled awkwardly and said.
"Well, honestly gramps, you might have to get used to me acting... different from time to time. I know I act really weird and strange, just... don’t get freaked out. it’ll still always be me...in some way "
The dean nodded.
"Good to hear"
"That doesn’t mean I’m not gonna change "
Zyro quickly pointed out. He looked at his hand, closing his fist and opening it,still not feeling quite at home in his own body.
"In fact i think things are going to change really fast now. For the first time in a while it looks like things might actually be going forward for me. Problem is... hope isn’t a luxury we can afford "
The dean looked at the strangely cheerful expression on Zyro’s face as he said that, confused about what he meant.
"Did you need anything else gramps?"
The dean shook his head.
"I’ve got what I needed. Go meet your friends"
Zyro quickly got up, the word "Friends" giving him a small adrenaline rush as he bowed respectfully before turning around to leave.
"I’ll make sure to visit, gramps"
Zyro said, closing the door behind him.
The second Zyro left, the gentle smile on the dean’s face disappeared and was replaced with a hard expression.
"Gramps..."
He muttered those words a bit too thoughtfully.
The last words Zyro said replayed themselves in his mind. It seemed he’d have to start staying in this temporary office more often.
Zyro after closing the door, looking at his hands again.
"I’m not a robot or a doll...i think"
He muttered
He walked down the hall and took the first turn, immediately finding the others waiting for him.
"Oh,hi guys... what are we staring at?"
Diane suddenly pointed at him
"Alright, enough shit. I didn’t get knocked down a building to not get answers. What the hell is going on? And who are you? Or who do you think you are?"
All the others looked at him, expecting an answer for the same question that was bugging them.
"Who am I? The name’s Zyro. Sorry if you’re a bit confused. I’m guessing you’re a bit confused, none of the others explained much huh?"
"Zyro? Man, this guy really is just crazy"
Zaria shoved Diane gently, still remembering how Zaine reacted to being called crazy. Luckily Zyro only laughed it off and said
"She’s not necessarily wrong"
Zaria stepped forward
"Z... Zyro. Nice to meet you . I’m Zaria"
"Yeah, your necklace is just like..."
Zyro instinctively grabbed at his chest and was shocked when he didn’t feel anything.
"W... what?"
A hint of panic appeared in his eyes as his mind replayed the image of Zaria punching Zaine into that building. It must have fallen off then
"Oh no"
"Um... sorry guys but I need to go look for something"
Before anyone could stop him he had ran off towards the school exit, leaving his classmates who were all tired to varying degrees,in the dust, even leaving behind his shield.
Diane looked at him leaving curiously and suddenly took something out of her pocket.
"Look for something? Could it be this?"
She said looking at the weirdly shaped black necklace she caught while falling .
*********
Zyro kept running, planning on heading back to the fight scene to look for the necklace when he suddenly smelled something .
He halted in his tracks as memories regarding someone flooded into his mind.
"Sable"
He thought out loud and looked at where the smell was coming from.
Although a bit hesitant,, he walked to the door and knocked a few times.
A few seconds passed and no one replied but he was confident someone was behind those doors and knocked again.
"Sable?"
This time he could hear something happening in the other side and after a few seconds, the door opened slightly and Sable’s face peaked through, covered up in all sort of stuff to keep sunlight out
"Your voice is a bit different"
She sized him up and asked
"Zaine?"
"Nope"
"Zen"
"Even farther"
She looked confused and just stayed silent for a while.
"It’s a long story. I’m Zyro, I’m -"
"The one with the shield"
"Uh... yeah. Can I come in?"
Sable looked a bit suspicious but her nose didn’t deceive her, it was the same smell.
She stepped back a considerable distance from the door before the door opened completely for him.
Zyro stepped in and the door immediately slammed shut behind him.
Zyro looked around the room, realizing that Sable had gone through lots of measures to rid this place entirely of any light of any kind.
"This is interesting" he says without skipping a beat.
"But why?"
Sable looked at the ground, seemingly embarrassed to say it.
"Come on. I’m promise I won’t laugh or anything"
Sable looked at him, not sure what to even think of this new guy.
"Maybe I can even help"
Sable sighed and muttered.
"I’m scared I’ll burn"
Zyro stood there for a few seconds with a blank look on his face
"Uh... okay?"
Sable quickly explained what happened to her last night and her worries that she might be some sort of vampire and will turn into dust if her skin meets sunlight. She even shows him her fangs to emphasize her point.
"You’re right, that does sound serious... but don’t worry about it"
"What?"
"You’re not a vampire"
Zyro said gently, shocking Sable.
"That... how do you know?"
Sable said, hesitant to believe.
"Trust me. Now how about we get these things off you"
Zyro said, taking the huge sun hat off Sable’s head.
"No offense but you look silly"
Sable still didn’t want to risk it but after a few minutes of coaxing, Zyro managed to convince her to loose the coat. He still had to lead, the shaky girl out by the hand but the second her skin touched the sun and nothing happened, Sable immediately jumped into the air,a huge weight being lifted off her shoulders as she sighed in relief.
Wait,so did this mean she was actually human? She’d just had a whole internal conflict yesterday and had ended up concluding it was okay to be inhuman, but now she actually is still human? Sable honestly felt a bit disappointed but that disappointment was quickly overshadowed by relief.
She was so excited she never realized that Zyro never said she was human,he just said she wasn’t a vampire.
She suddenly collapsed to the ground, barely being caught by Zyro.
Looking at the exhausted girl, Zyro carried her to her bed and tucked her in before removing all the light blocking equipment she had in her room and even cleaning it up for her and making sure she got a gentle breeze and low light.
He took one final look at her and closed the system screen with a strange expression and called out Lilith.
"Yes master ~"
"Um... just Zyro is fine Lilith"
"As you wish. What do you need me for?"
"Um... you’re a vampire, right? Do you know about something called an original?"Lilith suddenly stopped talking. For some reason, Zyro felt like he’d just stepped on a landmine.
With a hard tone, She suddenly said.
"Yes I know what they are, and I know that they’re impossible "
Zephyr suddenly spoke up.
"Why is that?"
"Because., they just are"
"The system... actually said that Sable’s...an original"
"Then your system is wrong. That’s not possible"
"Why?"
"Because originals are the progenitors of all vampires. The FIRST of our race,an original can not be created, not even by another original, it’s just not possible"
Zyro suddenly thought out loud.
"Yeah... but the originals themselves used to be human right?"
"Y...yes"
"So why can’t it just happen again?" Zephyr asked.
Lilith sighed like she was talking to imbeciles and answered.
"The originals weren’t turned by anybody. They were created when a group of humans came in contact with an almost infinitely powerful magic spell that connected them directly to the abyss,Pure chaos given form. The spell literally changed their very essenc, boding their souls directly with the abyss,a bond no other vampires possess despite inheriting their traits. The spell itself became part of the essence of both the originals and later generations of vampires, symbolizing our connection with the originals"
"So the difference between an original and a vampire is that originals are bound to something called the abyss and other vampires instead possess the essence of the original curse that created your progenitors, only in a lesser amount compared to them"
"I said spell, not curse"
Lilith snarled, offended by his wording.
"What’s the difference?"
"The intent mostly " Zephyr answered, seemingly satisfied with Lilith’s anger.
"The point is yes, the originals are fundamentally different from regular vampires. The abyss lives in them"
"What if you just recreated the same spell?"
"impossible. The ingredients were all removed from this world by the abyss after creating the originals"
Zephyr only thought for a second before replying.
"Then what about simply using the old spell itself? With new ingredients "
"Have you gone mad? The laws of the..."
At this point Zyro couldn’t even contribute to the argument since it was so far beyond him. Zephyr and Lilith were pulling out terms he’d honestly never heard of before and couldn’t understand like fate spells, world original, anomalies and others. He looked at Sable sleeping, wondering how she’d feel if she knew two god tier entities were arguing because of her.
Zyro suddenly thought out loud.
"Sable has the vampire ability. If the traces of the original spell is present in all vampires then doesn’t that mean the essence of a vampire alone can be used to trigger the same spell connection?"
Both Lilith and Zephyr suddenly went quiet. Zyro, thinking he’d annoyed them with his input quickly apologized but they stopped him
"Ha! I can’t believe i overlooked something so simple" Zephyr said, enthusiastically.
"N...no The easence of a normal vampire only possesses a thousandth of what is necessary "
"Yes, but we’re not talking about recreating the spell, simply triggering it. Oh! It makes sense. The essence of the original spell, the blood of an extra-dimensional entity,a full moon night and hundreds of plausible sacrifices. The equation is complete!"
Lilith herself seemed to understand what he meant and was too shocked to say anything.
"B... but the chances of such an accident happening are one in a million, and the chance of it coincidentally succeeding is even lower"
"Um... what do you mean?"
"Think of it like this. The remnant energy of the spell n the girl’s vampire ability is like a piece of dry wood, The void,as she calls it,is an extra-dimensional force of the universe,so the blood of an extra-dimensional purely magical creature like yourself acted like a flammable liquid."
Zyro suddenly remembered that Sable had indeed drank Zen’s blood on multiple occasions, both before and after he evolved.
"The full moon night is when the connection to the abyss is strongest . It was like the coal pot, keeping the heat contained and focused at a single point, and those hundreds of bodies are like all those flammable trash like papers and plastics you feed the fire to keep it going. I have no idea how she managed to light the spark though, human affinity with magic is supposed to be terrible."
Zyro suddenly remembered the blood bond between him and Sable. The system had explicitly stated that it would have unpredictable effects. Could it have increased Sable’s affinity with magic?
"All this would have only allowed for the tiniest ember to reignite the spell and open a gateway to the abyss, but just like most forces of the universe, the abyss is most likely conscious to some degree and made the decision to bond with Sable of its own will, making it easier "
The dead bodies suddenly losing their blood, the blood moon appearing out of nowhere. It suddenly made sense. Those bodies had unwittingly been sacrificed by Zaine and Sable to the blood moon which was likely a gate to the abyss.
Lilith still seemed shocked. It was like she didn’t want it to make sense but it did.
"Is that even possible? All the perfect pieces just falling into place coincidentally? Not to mention someone worthy enough for the abyss to make a conscious decision to bond with her. It’s impossible "
"Improbable" Zephyr corrected.
Zyro looked at Sable
"So what does this mean? That she’s really cool?"
Lilith sighed.
"That’s an understatement. If she really is directly connected to the abyss then she’s not just some vampire, but vampire royalty, effectively immortal, and with the potential to become one of the strongest creatures in existence. She’s an anomaly, something that shouldn’t exist, she already easily outranks almost all vampires in existence... maybe even me"
Zyro’s eyes widened in shock and he looked at the pretty white haired girl sleeping right behind him with a satisfied smile.
"Whoa"
