Chapter 1652: Chapter 1642: Awards Ceremony (Part 1)

The two groups met at the airport. Although the car Xia Siyu and her friends took was a bit worn-out, Wuling Hongguang is the greatest of all time! They left later than the airport bus but still managed to arrive at the destination one parking spot ahead.

When they got off, the driver called out to Xia Siyu. She thought something was wrong, but the driver blushed and said, "Miss Xia, I’m a fan of yours. Can I get an autograph and a photo?"

"Sure, no problem. You can take the picture however you want." The arrival went smoothly, and Xia Siyu was in a good mood. The driver handed her a pen and pulled out his T-shirt, "Sign here!"

"Alright." Xia Siyu signed her name and didn’t forget to pull Bo Yan along, "This is Bo Yan. Do you want his signature too? And there’s Shang Feifei, since it’s rare to have everyone in one car, let’s all sign."

The driver wasn’t as enthusiastic about the other two, but since they were also celebrities, the three came over to take a photo with him and signed autographs. As soon as they finished signing, the driver regretted, "My shirt is dirty, it’s a pity I can’t wash it after you’ve signed it!"

"It’s no big deal." Xia Siyu remembered she had some posters in her bag, so she took one out and swiftly signed her name on it.

The driver felt a bit embarrassed, "Then this trip is on the house."

"How could we do that? Business is business. Thank you for getting us here on time." Bo Yan still transferred the fare to him.

"Hey, Bo Yan, come and help, will you?" The three had gone to take a commemorative photo, while Han Yifan was left to struggle with the luggage by himself.

As he called out, the area where they were was bustling with people coming and going, and quite a few people looked their way.

Fortunately, a staff member was nearby and quickly came over to assist, preventing any potential incidents.

Allowing the guests to improvise has this effect. Even the show’s crew probably wouldn’t have thought of using a moving truck to get us to the airport.

After waiting a little longer, Zhou Weiwei’s group finally arrived. But Zhou Weiwei looked a bit disheveled. She hadn’t been sleeping well these past few days and was already feeling quite miserable. This morning she felt seasick while fishing and carsick on the ride. If she hadn’t been worried about her image, she would have thrown up in the car. Even though she didn’t throw up, she still looked pale and couldn’t fake feeling otherwise because her body was genuinely unwell. Zhang Wenyi, being a man, was a bit better off, but he also hadn’t slept well and could barely take care of himself. All he could give Zhou Weiwei was some verbal concern.

Once all the guests arrived and checked in, ready to head out, Xia Siyu received a message. She turned around first, "Sorry, I’ve got to check my phone real quick."

As she was about to take out her phone, Bo Yan and Shang Feifei’s phones also rang.

Xia Siyu opened her phone first and saw an invitation from the Golden Moon Award for a film she shot with Director Ji, about the modern narcotics trade, which was nominated for Best Actress.

The Golden Moon Awards mainly target Chinese-language films overseas. They used to be prestigious, but due to becoming more insular and because the inland film market has thrived, their influence has waned. Still, it remains one of the top three legit awards. Director Ji is from overseas, with funding from international sources, allowing his films to be considered for the Golden Moon Awards.

Bo Yan and Shang Feifei had similar reasons. After looking at the message, Bo Yan immediately glanced at Xia Siyu.

Xia Siyu remained calm and didn’t immediately accept; she just sent a message to Director Ji, "I’ve received the invitation. May I ask if I need to go with the crew this time?"

Director Ji simply replied, "If you have time, maybe you should come by."

This was pretty apparent already, meaning she wasn’t likely to win this time.

Even though this film was quite good, her performance as a conscience-stricken drug dealer, balancing both good and evil, was very nuanced. However, there were many excellent works this year, with veteran actors who have long been masters of their craft. Since it’s her first time applying for the Golden Moon, her chances of winning are slim.

The Golden Moon is notoriously exclusive. Many have been nominated for a decade or two, only receiving a consolation award in their twilight years. Unless you’re willing to pay the price to navigate it, you probably won’t win. But navigating goes against Xia Siyu’s principles; she doesn’t want to do such things.

To say she wasn’t upset would be a lie. Although she won Best Supporting Actress at Cannes, she had a bet with Shang Feifei that she would get Best Actress at the three majors, which she hasn’t achieved yet.

There are only two rounds left till the final deadline, meaning three chances out of six times. She has already missed one chance, and with five left, getting three awards is almost impossible.

But there was nothing she could do. Who told her to coast along for many years, not realising her potential and not winning a single award? Now that she’s in a hurry to win, it’s her own fault.

Bo Yan saw that Xia Siyu was emotionally stable, and although he was still a bit worried, he didn’t say anything more. Shang Feifei also had a film selected, but it was pure commercial, with even lower chances of winning; she wasn’t very concerned about it.

No one said anything directly, but soon the senior pair received the news too. They were both nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Actress. They shouted, "Who’s going to the Golden Moon with us?"

Zhou Weiwei initially thought those few people were responding to messages from the show or their agencies, not expecting it to be from the Golden Moon Awards.

At that moment, she felt even worse. Xia Siyu, Bo Yan, and Shang Feifei were regulars at film festivals. Although the senior pair had fallen out of favor, they were still competent, easily scoring supporting roles in films.

She’s the only one still revolving around idol dramas. Her last historical drama was a big hit, which for a typical Xiaohua would be a breakthrough, but to these people, it meant nothing.

It’s not like she had no connections with the TV industry. Shang Feifei was filming TV dramas; the senior pair were veteran supporting actors. However, when they did idol dramas, it was purely for cash and ratings; their main focus was still filming quality dramas or movies, entirely different from her.

Even though nowadays many movie stars descend to do TV dramas, even if they fall flat, they are still from that circle, capable of doing art films for awards or commercial films for revenue. When they do TV dramas, they also take on big productions, which can’t compare with her.

But there was nothing she could do; she just wasn’t popular enough. Even though they were all in the same variety show, she couldn’t reach their level.

Xia Siyu, for her part, had no idea about Zhou Weiwei’s train of thought, but even if she knew, it wouldn’t matter. She didn’t care. Bo Yan asked her, "Are you going?"

Xia Siyu pocketed her phone, remained calm, and smiled lightly, "Of course I’m going, why not?"

Even if there’s only a glimmer of hope, she has to give it a shot!
