The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 45: Ch : A New Life
’It is time...’
I looked at the platform where the execution was to take place. The whole world was looking forward to it happening.
A gagged body was taken to the top of the platform, her limbs still and lifeless. Her dishevelled hair hid her face and her eyes were clouded over as well.
"Do you have any last words?"
The execution officer asked, but the female only looked at him with her tired eyes. And right in front of everyone, she broke down into a laugh.
"Ahahaha... you all don’t even realize... it’s all a show..."
Before she could finish, her head came rolling off and her body was taken for testing. The world became quiet as a criminal was put to rest.
"Goodbye, Miss Anabella. This time, your charity will be put to good use."
I told the now dead woman, and as I walked back to the car. It was time for me to head home with Damian now.
Damian met me in the car and gestured for me to sit in the front seat with him. He had chosen to drive today as well to make sure... our secret remained safe.
In the back car, the cloaked figure let out a sigh as she pulled her hood even higher.
"Are you sure this will be fine? That woman who died..."
"Was a criminal with a lot of child-related crimes. No one will miss her or come for her. Now, Miss, I hope you recall that you are legally dead. You will be provided with a new identity and taken under our wing, but don’t think that this is the end." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Damian warned her and the woman nodded.
They pulled at a highly reputed mall and took a special elevator. It opened in an underground but high-tech area with a lot of comfort.
"What is this place?"
The cloaked woman asked and Damian answered her while reaching toward me and keeping me close.
"This is one of my businesses, so you don’t need to worry. I will have you meet a ’special’ surgeon who will change your life."
My body froze a little at the term surgeon. I had no memories about the surgery I had been made to undergo to make my face change a bit, but I subconsciously still felt stiff.
I knew that the surgeon who ruined my life was not this one, but the fear of losing my identity once more made me become scared once more.
"Hey, what’s wrong?"
Damian asked me with a concerned look in his eyes. It filled me with warmth and I almost blurted out the truth to him about how I was... before I stopped myself.
Now was not the time to be telling him the truth. We had gotten closer, but not enough to talk to each other about our deepest, darkest secrets. We still needed some time for that.
"It’s nothing. I just... think it’s fascinating how you can change your whole life by going to a surgeon..." fascinating and disturbing at the same time.
My expression must not have matched my words because Damian gave me an almost concerned look.
Before he could ask me more, the surgeon came out and took Anabella with him to the back room. This was going to require some time, so Damian and I decided to head back home.
Damian’s secretary was going to be responsible for Miss Anabella... well, Miss Clara now. She was going to get a new start, with a new name and identity.
Being in that space brought back bad memories for me and all I wanted was to go to sleep.
But as soon as I entered the house, I felt someone else’s presence inside. My instincts told me that I was in danger and I immediately became alert.
I was not the only one who sensed danger. Damian did as well, and he immediately stood in front of me as we entered the house.
"Oh my—! Aren’t you being too cautious with me? One would think that you are not happy to have me here."
The female asked, pushing her cup of tea away. Her eyes briefly crossed over me before she looked back at Damian. Damian tensed, not liking who this unnamed female was, and I did not recognize her either.
"You... what are you doing here?"
His voice sounded strained, almost as if he was struggling to control himself. But the female in front of him did not seem to care about Damian’s actions.
She continued to drink her tea before her cup became empty and she pushed it away from her. Her deep eyes looked past Damian and toward me and I felt my breath hitch.
Damian immediately noticed and positioned himself even better in front of me.
"Go back to your room. I will call for you when I need you."
He told me in a harsh voice. I had not seen him be this cold to me anytime except when he first brought me here. I did not want to leave him, but something about his gaze told me that it would be better for me to obey his words for now.
"Oh—! Who’s that? She looks cute. Can you tell me more about her?"
The unnamed female moved toward me, only to be blocked by Damian.
"She is no one important. Now, what are you here for?"
That open rejection stung me a lot. I did not want to be ’no one’ important to Damian, but I also did not know what to label our relationship beyond partners.
We were... fiancés on paper. But the female asking us about our relationship did not seem like one who could believe that. Nor did Damian want to tell her our fabricated lie.
In the end, I decided to head back to my room. But not before I took a look at what was happening downstairs.
Both Damian and the female were butting heads and something was about to happen.
Unfortunately, it was no longer any of my business.
