The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 52: Ch : The Next Morning
’Don’t think about it. Do not think about it. Nothing happened....’
I was well-aware that my face was completely flushed right now. I could not even bring myself to look in the mirror as I washed my face.
What we had just done kept lingering on my mind, and the ache in my jaw reminded me that it had not been a dream either. We had actually slept with each other....
’I wonder... if hitting my head hard will make me forget....’
I almost followed my impulsive thoughts before I recalled that it was a bad idea and pulled myself back.
The shower helped me clear my mind, and I relaxed a little as the water kept falling on top of me. I finally finished my shower and looked around for clothes, only to see that I had none in the bathroom.
So I decided to head out to get some in my towel, only to see Damian sitting on my bed. He was facing the bathroom door, and he did not move until I coughed to remind him that I was still there.
Only then did he blink his eyes. If he felt embarrassed by what we had just done, he did not show it on his face.
But there was something in his eyes-an intensity that made my stomach twist in knots.
"I will give you some privacy to change your clothes. Come for dinner once you feel ready."
Damian stood up smoothly before he turned around and left my room. I was not sure if the flash of red I saw on his cheeks was just a fragment of my imagination, or whether he was actually embarrassed.
Why did part of me want it to be real? Why did I want to believe I wasn’t the only one affected?
I quickly decided that it did not matter and that I quickly needed to change clothes and head down.
So that’s what I did. I changed clothes, and when I went down, the table was already set for dinner.
There was an awkward silence between us where neither Damian said anything, nor I did. We went to our separate rooms after that as well.
The unspoken tension hung between us heavy enough to make breathing difficult.
Next morning was much less tense. We did not bring up what had happened between us, but it did not feel like something that we had buried either.
cough
"So, what is your plan next?"
Damian asked, perhaps to break the tense air. I also snapped out of my mood and decided to tell him about our next plan.
"We have already shaken the charity foundation, next we need to focus on the business that Harvour Industries have built. Public eyes are on us after Miss Anabella’s case, so it is the right time to start a business."
I told Cane.
Since public interest was high, monopolising it would be for the best. To do that, getting into entertainment would be the best way.
"Let’s get into entertainment. Our image is clean enough that it would not take us that long. I have already listed a few companies that we can buy out..."
I took out the list I had prepared. The companies I had listed were ghost companies that I had formed in case of an emergency. They were shells which had incredible infrastructure, but not a lot of success.
That was how they had been safe from Harvour industry or another company’s encroachment.
Damian took a quick look at the companies I had short-listed and gave a frown. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"I know of some of these names. But aren’t they known to be too stubborn to cooperate? How will you get them to sign the contract?"
He asked, and I felt a smile appear on my face. I approached him with the same smile on my face before I leaned closer to him in an intimidating manner.
"Well, you can leave that up to me. I will get you these companies’ cooperation as well as connections needed to step into this industry. I just need one thing from you."
"Oh... and what is that?"
Damian asked, leaning forward. Suddenly, it was starting to make me feel awkward. We were just too close... and this reminded me of last night.
His scent... his breath on my skin... it all came rushing back too vividly.
But I also did not want to be the first one to step back either, so I held my ground.
"I want your money and resources. That is what our deal was, right? I should start getting ready now..."
I pulled back before anything drastic could happen between me and Damian. My face was flushed red, and my eyes darted around immediately.
Damian caught my wrist as I pulled back, and his thumb moved over my wrist in an almost loving manner.
His eyes looked at me with the same intensity they had last night in the bed...
My whole body froze, responding to that gaze in a way that terrified me.
"I... should get going now. I will call you if I need you..."
It almost felt like I was running away, but Damian did not say anything to me. I felt the presence of his eyes all the way outside. My heart hammered in my chest as I tried to calm it down. But it was of no use.
’I need to calm down. Otherwise, my heart will not be able to take it. Take a deep breath... yeah, that’s right. It is going to be fine now.’
I calmed myself down and realized that I had forgotten to get any breakfast.
But I had no courage to head back inside the dining room and face Damian. So I decided to skip breakfast and leave for the work that I needed to do.
When I got out of the house, Emma was waiting for me. Her unhappy eyes told me that she was not happy to be accompanying me. Her voice also told me this much.
"Tsk, I hope that you know how much work I am missing because of you, Miss. So, you better not disappoint him, or else..."
That felt like a warning, but the reason I felt irritated was because of her attitude.
"Hmm, I don’t think Damian will be disappointed with me, no matter what I do. He’s just that kind of person with me. But it does not seem to be the case with you."
I told the secretary, and she immediately went speechless before she caught herself.
"I... that is because I do not give him a reason to be disappointed in me."
She forced those words out, her eyes burning with anger toward me.
And for the first time, I wondered if she hated me because she knew-
because she could feel that something between Damian and me was changing.
