The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 75: Ch : Close Encounter
I waited for Iris to come out of the store for a few minutes, but there was no response. So I decided to go inside myself.
Every second she stayed inside made the unease in my chest grow heavier.
I immediately noticed the figure clad in black that was following Iris and noticed how uncomfortable she looked about the whole thing.
Her shoulders were tense, her steps uneven, as if she was forcing herself not to panic.
’So that person is definitely not a bodyguard. Should I approach Iris and ask if she needs help?’
Before I could approach Iris, she decided to leave the store, and the black-clad man followed her. I followed the pair as well, but at a safe distance from them, until we reached a parking lot.
The space felt eerily quiet, the kind that made every footstep echo louder than it should.
Iris picked up speed to try and get to her car, but before she could do that, the stranger approached her and grabbed her shoulder. The female tried to resist, but I had a feeling she was not able to.
Her gasp cut through the air sharply, sending a jolt straight through me.
Her struggling self unlocked something in the back of my mind, and I decided to immediately help her out.
"Tsk, let me go or else—"
"Stay down, miss. Do not make me hurt you...fuck..."
My shoulder hurt when it collided with the man trying to grab Iris, and for a second, my eyes met the kidnapper’s.
/The impact rattled my bones, but I did not regret moving.
I watched his eyes widen as a curse left his lips. And my body froze at the familiar voice I heard.
"Fucking hell...you—!"
That was the same voice I had heard when I had ’died’ and had my life ruined. This man...had something to do with my death and current situation.
"Ugh, that hurt. Where did you come from?"
The man asked, now looking at me with an annoyed look in his eyes. I wanted to speak, but my eyes went to look at Iris...who had finally taken this opportunity to make a run for it.
Her heels scraped harshly against the ground as she fled.
By the time the man realized what had happened, it was already too late.
"What the hell...hey, wait—!"
As he was distracted by Iris’s run, I forced my legs to move as well. I was going to make a run for it at the same time.
My heartbeat thundered painfully in my ears.
But I was not able to get too far before I felt a hand wrap itself around my wrist and pull me back. When I looked back, a pair of dark eyes looked at me.
His grip was ironclad, crushing and merciless.
"Do you really think you would be able to make it too far? Both you and that girl are fools if you think I came here unprepared."
The man growled, and seconds later, a kicking and screaming Iris was brought back by another man.
My stomach dropped at the sight of a second accomplice.
"...let me go. Do you have any idea who I am..."
"You will be a person of the past if you continue to be like this. I have no reason to keep you alive, Miss Iris. You see, unlike your friend here, you have no value for me. So I can get rid of you anytime I want to."
That shut Iris up.
I could tell that she was speechless and angry from the way she clenched her jaw. But she had at least some self-preservation instincts, because she did not say anything after that.
She was taken to the back of the car the kidnapper had prepared for her...but as for me, I had a feeling my situation was more complicated.
His gaze lingered on me far longer than it should have.
My kidnapper let out a sigh as he watched me before he rubbed his forehead.
"You are going to give me a headache, Miss Jenna. I cannot take you with me because I do not want anything to do with Damian Black. But you are also proving yourself to be a threat to me..."
The man told me, and I felt my insides go cold when I saw him approaching me.
Every instinct in my body screamed danger.
For some reason, his presence chilled me to my bones and made my throat feel dry.
"Hmm, how about I make you lose consciousness for now? Also, please consider this a warning not to come after me in the future. It is for your own good."
The man told me before I felt something blocking my nose. I instinctively knew that I should not inhale whatever was being used on me. But breathing was a basic function of the human body and not something I could control at will.
/Panic surged through me as my chest expanded on instinct.
As soon as I took a deep breath, my head felt lighter, and I could tell that I was about to lose consciousness.
"I am sorry, but this is for your own good. Let’s not cross paths in the future. I will leave you somewhere where it is easy for you to be found."
The man told me, but it was really hard to keep track of what was happening. All I knew was that my mind was going blank...but I needed to keep holding on.
I was in the parking lot one second, and when I opened my eyes, I found myself staring at the white walls of the hospital the next second. I blinked as I tried to get up, but my body protested.
"Don’t try to get up. Your body is not in a state to relax right now."
Damian’s voice stopped me, and I blinked slowly as I looked up at him. He had an impassive look on his face, and I opened my mouth to question him about what happened.
As soon as I did, a searing pain appeared in the back of my temple and made me lose my reason.
"Don’t try to get up right now. I will go and get a doctor."
Damian’s voice sounded neutral, but I had a feeling that he was angry. Not at me, but at the situation in general.
