The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 85: Ch : An Encounter - Part 1
Jenna’s POV
My throat burned as I spoke.
The words scraped their way out, rough and unwilling, as if my body itself was resisting them. I wanted to immediately take my words back and tell Damian not to leave me alone.
But my conscience reminded me that it would be too selfish of me to do so. I clenched my fingers together, forcing myself to stay still.
Especially since I was the reason we were in this club to begin with. I had been the one who wanted to find Iris. This was my responsibility, no matter how much fear tried to cloud it.
Damian did not look too fond of the idea of leaving me here alone, but I was sure that even he knew he could not stay with me for much longer if he wanted to start the mission.
"Are you sure you will be fine alone?"
He asked in a tense voice, and I could feel almost everyone looking at me at the moment. They wanted to see me act out and get punished.
Unfortunately for them, I was not going to give them that luxury today.
"I will be fine. I trust you to be quick and come back before anything can happen. Now go, and I will wait for you in the side room."
I told Damian, and people’s gazes intensified.
I almost felt like I had made a mistake when I saw Damian’s eyes shining with anger and annoyance.
But he did not say anything to me in front of the others. He simply extended his hand toward me and then looked at the teenager behind me. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Lead us to the side rooms. I want to rest with my partner there."
Damian told the teenager without missing a beat, and the teenager looked relieved before he bowed and told Damian to follow him.
As we walked, I could not help but notice that the area seemed to become more and more private as time went on.
The noise of the club faded with every step we took.
The teenager opened a door for us, and it almost looked like a five-star luxury hotel’s most expensive suite.
"There is the place our boss has prepared for your current partner to relax while you and he discuss... business. Please let me know if there is anything lacking."
The teenager told us as he looked me up and down. His eyes lingered for a moment too long.
His creeping gaze made me want to hide myself, and I curled into the jacket I had on a little more.
But it was Damian’s presence that truly caused the teenager to look away from me.
"Tsk, I see that not all of the staff at this place are trained to know what they should and should not do. Should I make a formal complaint about this...?"
Damian’s words caused the teenager to immediately take a step back and look at him in horror.
"M-Master, please don’t be like that. It was a genuine mistake... I promise I was not looking at your partner or anything..."
The teenager tried to reassure Damian, but I had a feeling that this situation had long passed the point of apology.
Damian did not say much as he walked toward the door, and the teenager followed.
"Jenna, do not open the door from the inside. I will be back soon. Just... make sure you behave until then."
The instructions about what I needed to do were clear.
I nodded and sat down on the bed. The door closed behind Damian as he left.
I waited a few minutes to make sure he was actually gone before I headed toward the door and tried to open it.
But it seemed to be locked from the outside, with no way for me to open it from the inside.
"So it’s a one-way door? Somehow, that fits this place well. But then, why did Damian tell me not to open this door? Was he warning me because he did not know about this?"
The thought of Damian being not as experienced with these rooms made me feel better, and my mood instantly lifted.
Besides, his protectiveness also made something in me stir.
’Damian is getting cuter and cuter by the day. I better be careful not to fall for him any more than I already have, or separating later will... become an issue.’
I was sure that Damian liked me just as much as I liked him.
But truthfully, I could not see a future for us together. We both had a common goal, but I had never thought beyond that.
’That is a matter for later. For now, I should focus on the current mission. Is there anything I can do in this room...?’
I opened my purse to check for my phone, but just then, I felt the doorknob move.
Someone was trying to open the door.
’What the—! Is Damian back? Or is it someone else trying to open the door?’
The question lingered in my mind as I made my way toward the door.
My heartbeat quickened with every step. I suddenly felt a little unsettled by the noise and decided to stand behind it to make sure I would not be the first thing anyone saw once they opened it.
Finally, after a whole minute of fiddling around, the doorknob turned and someone entered the room.
My breath caught in my throat.
I could immediately tell that the person who walked in was not Damian, but the same man who had kidnapped Iris and also left me with a parting blow.
"Oh my~ where did our dear guest go? I guess I will have to play a small game of cat and mouse with them. Don’t you agree?"
The man suddenly turned around and gave me a blank look.
His eyes looked terrifying, and my breath hitched as I saw him. Instincts kicked in, and I managed to throw something at his head.
But before I could hit him, he reacted quickly and caught my hand in his own.
"Oh my~ if it isn’t Miss Jenna. What a surprise to see you here. But I don’t see anyone else around. Are you here alone?"
The man asked, and I tensed up, not knowing what to do. Should I attack? Or hold back? What am I supposed to do in this situation?
