The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 695 - 736: My Husband is the Best Man in the World
Abyanabad Queen’s Hospital, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
This was a comprehensive maternal and child healthcare hospital. Since Sienna Johnson arrived in Abyanabad, she had been having her regular prenatal check-ups here.
The hospital’s perinatal care unit was crowded. There were many pregnant women, but even more numerous were their accompanying family members. Most were husbands, some were mothers-in-law, and some families had even come in full.
Sienna Johnson hadn’t expected that in Abyanabad, a woman’s pregnancy would be treated with such importance by the entire family.
While waiting, Sienna Johnson suddenly thought of Abyanabad’s polygamy system and asked mischievously, "Isn’t Abyanabad polygamous? If a man’s wives all became pregnant at the same time, which wife would he accompany to the prenatal check-up?"
Adrian Desmond, naturally, had no idea about such things. Besides, he only had one wife, so there was no need for him to worry about this issue.
"I don’t know."
Sienna Johnson said smugly, "Adrian, you should thank me. Thanks to me, you don’t have to make such a cruel choice. Just imagine, if you had several wives pregnant at the same time, you wouldn’t do anything all day but accompany your pregnant wives to the hospital for check-ups."
Adrian Desmond frowned.
"In Orienta, married men are often asked a classic dilemma: if both their mother and wife fell into the water, whom would they save? The men in Abyanabad are so pitiful. They not only have to face the choice between their mother and wife but also between their mother and multiple wives, and even choices among the wives themselves..."
His mother had passed away early, and he only had Sienna as his wife. Therefore, if Sienna were to fall into the sea, he would save her without hesitation.
"Mrs. Desmond, thank you so much. You’ve really saved me a lot of trouble."
Adrian Desmond replied sarcastically. Sienna Johnson, pretending not to hear the oddness in his tone, casually went along with him, "Sixth Master, no need to stand on ceremony with me!"
Adrian Desmond was speechless.
There were many people, and the wait was long. Bored, Sienna Johnson began to play with Adrian Desmond’s slender fingers. Her attention focused on his ring finger. Seeing the wedding ring there, she tried to take it off but was stopped by Adrian Desmond.
"Stop messing around!" He had never taken this wedding ring off since he’d put it on, not even when bathing.
"I just want to take a look."
"Our wedding rings are identical. You can just look at your own."
"Adrian, speaking of men in Abyanabad, if all their wives were pregnant at the same time, who would they accompany for the check-up?"
Sienna Johnson was really bored, and bored people naturally ask silly questions.
Adrian Desmond explained, "In Abyanabad, the poor practice monogamy; only the rich and powerful have multiple wives. The Sultan of Abyanabad has the most wives, having married over fifty of them. So, most men in Abyanabad don’t need to worry about this issue."
No wonder so many husbands accompanied their wives to prenatal check-ups; so that was the reason.
"Then you lied to me when you said Abyanabad practices polygamy?"
"Abyanabad’s law does indeed stipulate polygamy, and given my wealth, I believe I could afford to support more than fifty wives," Adrian Desmond said pragmatically.
"So, Sixth Master wants to marry over fifty wives, huh..." Sienna Johnson laughed, though her smile was rather sinister.
"I said I have the *ability* to marry over fifty wives; I didn’t say I actually *want* to. Don’t deliberately twist my words."
"That’s only because I didn’t agree! If I had agreed, who knows if you would have married over fifty wives or not?" Sienna Johnson became unhappy. "Adrian, I’m warning you: if you dare to entertain such thoughts, I’ll leave with our child immediately! Whoever wants you can have you; I certainly won’t want you anymore."
"Even if you had agreed, I wouldn’t have married fifty. If you hadn’t objected back then, I would have only married you and Melanie Carpenter!"
The more Adrian Desmond tried to explain, the uglier Sienna Johnson’s expression became. This was a taboo subject, a question as thorny as asking a man whether he would save his wife or his mother if both were drowning.
"Don’t you find it tiresome getting jealous over such trivial things all the time?" Adrian Desmond felt a headache coming on. He found Sienna Johnson quite childish at times.
"I love you too much, so I can’t tolerate even a speck of impurity. Thinking about your past actions makes my teeth itch with anger."
"I’ve already been punished. During the years you were gone, I lived like a zombie. So, can we please stop dredging up old scores?" Adrian Desmond squeezed her hand, pleading.
"Adrian, let’s live happily from now on."
"Mm, happily."
"Will you only love me for the rest of your life?"
Adrian Desmond looked at Sienna Johnson. When had she become so insecure? With so many people around, Adrian Desmond leaned close to her ear and whispered softly, "I’m captivated by you; I can’t live without you in this lifetime."
Sienna Johnson smiled. A man sitting diagonally opposite them was captivated by Sienna Johnson’s charming smile. Adrian Desmond shot a sharp glare his way, making the man tremble in fear.
The further along she was in her pregnancy, the stronger the baby’s kicks became. Sienna Johnson held her belly; some of the kicks were genuinely painful. She smiled, gently caressing her abdomen. With Adrian Desmond sitting beside her, she felt incredibly happy.
"Number 18, Sienna Johnson!"
The nurse called Sienna Johnson’s name. After such a long wait, it was finally her turn.
Sienna Johnson took her appointment slip from her bag. Seeing her struggle to get up, Adrian Desmond extended his hand, and she used his support to stand steadily.
"We have to queue for so long every time. Why don’t we just have the doctor make a house call?" Adrian Desmond asked, puzzled.
"Because when I was pregnant with Curly, Kiki accompanied me to every check-up. The other pregnant women would look at me with pity. At that time, I thought that if I got pregnant again, I would definitely want my husband to come with me. Adrian, you’re so handsome. Haven’t you noticed those women secretly looking at you? I realize I have a bit of a mischievous streak; I’m actually feeling great about it."
Indeed, quite a mischievous streak, he thought. His attention was entirely on her; how could he have noticed if other women were looking at him? However, since she wanted to show off to other women, he was more than happy to oblige.
"People always want what they can’t have. I once yearned for a mother’s love and for romantic love. Now, I have it all." She smiled, her expression holding a touch of peace. The aura she exuded was also much gentler, having lost its former sharpness.
Does happiness lessen a woman’s harshness?
"Then I’ll accompany you every time!" he said.
"Okay," she replied.
Standing outside the ultrasound room, the nurse took the slip from her and handed shoe covers to both of them. "The father-to-be can go in too," the nurse said.
"Adrian, come in with me."
"Sure."
Sienna Johnson leaned against the wall, struggling to put on her shoe cover. Seeing this, Adrian Desmond bent down, helped her put it on, and then put his own on.
The nurse said admiringly, "Madam, your husband is so considerate."
"Mm-hm, my husband is the best husband in the world!"
Adrian Desmond’s movements paused as he was putting on his shoe cover, and a subtle smile touched his lips.
