The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 701 - 742: You Are Humiliating Me
"No way. If people found out, they’d think I, her own sister-in-law, was coveting Paige’s things."
"Why would you think that way?"
"What’s wrong with me thinking that?"
"You’re insulting me!" Adrian Desmond said seriously.
"How am I insulting you?" She had just been calm and collected, not saying a single word that could be construed as an insult.
"My woman, how could she possibly lack jewelry? What you just said questions my capabilities. If that’s not insulting me, what is!"
Sixth Master, you leave me speechless!
He was incredibly quick to make connections. She had only made an innocent joke, yet he had managed to link it to a man’s dignity. Sienna Johnson admitted defeat.
"Come on, let’s go find Paige and have her lend you some jewelry. It’s my fault. You usually don’t wear jewelry, so I assumed you didn’t like it and didn’t buy you much."
Hearing Adrian say this, Sienna felt somewhat embarrassed. "Actually, I was unhappy today because I felt insecure..."
"Insecure about what?"
"As your wife, I wanted to make a perfect appearance, but..."
Sienna poked her large belly. Her waist was gone, and her face had gained so much weight. Pregnant women are the most beautiful? Where’s the beauty in this? I look awful.
"You’ve been out of sorts all day just because of this?"
"Yes."
Sienna propped her chin on her hand and looked at her reflection. No matter how she looked at it, she was dissatisfied. "Maybe I just shouldn’t go," she said, lacking confidence.
"Mrs. Desmond, you are beautiful. Even with a big belly, you’re more beautiful than any other woman." Adrian Desmond sat beside her, leaned closer, and said this while looking at Sienna Johnson in the mirror.
Sienna met his captivating, confident gaze but shyly looked away.
Although Sienna knew Adrian’s words were heavily colored by his personal affection for her, she was still happy to hear them.
"That’s what they call ’beauty is in the eye of the beholder’... You love me, so naturally, you think I’m the best. Just like, in my eyes, you’re the best."
Sienna’s heart pounded. She could even hear it beating. They were an old married couple, yet why did she still feel the thrill of first love?
Of course, Adrian didn’t know who Xi Shi was, but he guessed she must have been a very beautiful woman, just like his Sienna Johnson.
"Mrs. Desmond, do you want to be a princess?" Adrian asked.
"Yes, I want to be a princess, not some sallow-faced, neglected wife! Why couldn’t Mr. Carpenter have waited until after I’d given birth to hold his birthday banquet..." Sienna pouted, propping her chin on her hand as she looked at Adrian, a sight that made his heart melt with affection.
Adrian said, "Put your arms around my neck."
Sienna didn’t understand. She lowered her hands and asked him, "What for?"
He said, "Be good and listen."
Sienna didn’t know what he was up to but obediently put her arms around his neck. At that moment, he lifted her in a perfect princess carry and even spun her around.
He said, "Your Highness, how do you feel now?"
"It feels amazing."
"How about I carry you into the banquet like this tomorrow?"
Sienna felt a bit embarrassed and looked down, her eyes darting around as she thought. Adrian chuckled. "Princess, have you made up your mind?"
"Aren’t you afraid of losing face, Sixth Master?"
"Since marrying you, I’ve long since lost any face or dignity I had."
He held her for quite some time. Sienna, worried he’d get tired, asked him to put her down, but Adrian seemed to enjoy carrying her too much and wouldn’t let go.
"You are Adrian Desmond’s woman, my only woman. What could you possibly feel insecure about?"
His eyes were captivating, full of temptation as he looked at Sienna. The sun shone on them. The sounds of the waves, the wind, and the birds filled the air, creating an incredibly warm and romantic atmosphere. He kissed her gently. She closed her eyes, feeling as if her body were floating on clouds.
Yes, she was Adrian’s woman. That fact alone was enough to make many women envious, especially Melanie Carpenter. What on earth did she have to feel insecure about? She had no need to feel insecure!
「The next day」
Sienna slept until eight before getting up. The man beside her was already gone. She habitually reached out to the spot where Adrian had slept; it was already cold. It seemed he had been up for a long time.
Sienna, still in her pajamas, came out of the bedroom and into the small living room of their suite. She was startled by the people already there.
Adrian and Paige were both present. Little Curly was gazing enviously at a pile of jewelry, clearly wanting some but sensibly keeping quiet.
"If you like them, you can have them all," Paige said generously.
"These are Auntie’s. I don’t want them. Dad will buy some for me."
The sight of Curly clearly wanting the jewelry but desperately trying to restrain herself amused Paige. Paige didn’t have a daughter, only her son Dylan, so she doted on Curly as if she were her own.
"These belonged to your grandmother. If she were still alive and knew how beautiful and lovely our Curly is, she would definitely have given you half."
Adrian refused on Curly’s behalf. "Those are Mother’s heirlooms; you should keep them. Curly doesn’t lack such things. Sienna didn’t bring her jewelry from Sileria City, so she’ll just borrow yours to wear for now. We’ll return them later."
"Brother, must we be so formal with each other? I don’t have a daughter, so these things will go to Curly eventually anyway. If Mom were still alive and saw she had such a beautiful granddaughter, she might have given all of it to Curly," Paige laughed.
"Mom spoiled you the most."
"That’s because she never met Curly."
Adrian looked at his daughter, a flicker of pain in his eyes. The image of his parents had grown hazy in his mind. What remained clear now were Sienna, their daughter, and his sister’s family...
If his parents were still alive...
Adrian couldn’t entertain such a hypothesis; it would only bring him heartache.
"Mom..."
Sienna, who had been trying to sneak back to her room, froze when she heard Curly’s voice. Her sharp-eyed daughter had spotted her.
"Mom, you’re finally up!" Curly exclaimed, running over. "The sun’s high in the sky! Why did you sleep so late?"
Sienna had planned to sneak back to her room unnoticed, but her sharp-eyed daughter had caught her. Now, everyone in the living room was looking at her, and she was still in her pajamas.
Her carefully maintained image was in tatters.
And Adrian! Why did he have people waiting in the living room so early? Didn’t he know she liked to sit by the living room window for a while after waking up?
"Good morning, everyone..." Sienna greeted them with an awkward smile. Fortunately, aside from Adrian, everyone else was a woman.
"Good morning, Madam!" five beautiful women in purple uniforms said in unison, their hands clasped respectfully before them as they bowed gracefully to her.
Sienna nodded slightly in return. "Good morning."
Who were these women? Sienna looked at Adrian with questioning eyes.
