Chapter 23: First day part 1

Maya’s life over the past few days has been filled with tranquility and a sense of safety. She feels as though this is not her life at all, as if she is in a different dimension. Neither her stepfather nor her half-brother has hit or slapped her, nor have they spoken to her in a derogatory manner for days. They have been avoiding her like plaque as if she doesn’t exist to them. It’s quite shocking!

All thanks to Dalton for acting like her knight in shining armor and using his immense power to subdue her tormentors, who had been making her life miserable. Now she can sleep at night without the overwhelming fear gnawing at the pit of her stomach.

She will be eternally grateful to him. However, his constant chivalry and overprotectiveness can be a bit excessive. She is unsure of how to feel about it, and it overwhelms her. Yet she can’t help but grin and giggle like a giddy person whenever she thinks about their interactions while lying in bed.

Perhaps she is developing a crush on him, and she needs to kill it right away. Dalton can protect her from her stepfather, but he cannot prevent Soraya from going insane and doing something terrible to her.

It’s not that she’s afraid of Soraya. Now that her stepfather can no longer harm her, she will no longer tolerate Soraya’s rudeness. She simply wants to avoid drama and not be one of those girls who fight other girls over a man.

She must remain professional with Dalton, regardless of how kindly he treats her.

The ten-day period has concluded, and today she begins her new job as Dalton’s personal chef. She is thrilled and promises to prepare the best meals for him, but she is especially excited about cooking in his beautiful kitchen.

However, she had to make a sacrifice to incorporate cooking for Dalton into her already hectic schedule. She decided to stop supplying baked goods to the coffee shops and instead focus solely on selling her pastries to the diner, which allowed her to spend fewer hours baking and more time sleeping.

She no longer needs the money; the salary Dalton was offering was sufficient for her to even quit her job at the restaurant. However, she loves her junior chef job and won’t quit until she has gained enough experience to open the restaurant of her dreams.

Her shift at the restaurant runs from 1 PM to 10 PM, and she gets a generous two-hour break, which is very convenient for her to prepare the three daily meals required for Dalton. The other day, when Dalton was driving her home, he insisted that she use his helicopter to make trips to his mansion much faster for her. Maya did not decline because the helicopter would make it easier for her to divide her time between working at the restaurant and cooking for Dalton.

She will deliver her baked goods to the diner early before going to Dalton’s house to make him breakfast. And during mid-day, she will bring him lunch at his office before heading to the restaurant to begin her shift. Later, she will fly to his mansion in his helicopter to prepare dinner for him during her two-hour break, and then fly back to the restaurant to continue her shift.

That seems a bit too convenient. Using a helicopter as her daily means of transportation is unreal to her, but after all, she cooks for a billionaire; it is quite normal in his wealthy world.

......

It’s 6 a.m., and Maya is already in Dalton’s kitchen, ready to make him breakfast.

"You’re here so early," Nana Rose said to Maya as she was making avocado juice.

"The early bird gets the worm, or whatever they say," Maya joked.

Nana Rose gave her a sympathetic look. "You shouldn’t have bothered to be here so early; Dalton doesn’t like eating breakfast."

"Really?" Maya paused, nearly spilling the avocado juice she was pouring from the blender into a glass.

"Yes, unfortunately," Nana Rose reconfirms.

"No," a grumpy voice replied. Dalton stood in front of the fridge, drinking water from a bottle.

Maya was a little startled. How did he walk in here without them noticing? She wondered.

"You shouldn’t be creeping up on people like that!" Nana Rose scolded Dalton, gripping her chest.

"Sorry," he apologized, his voice sounding lazy. Maya’s eyes pored over Dalton. He was wearing sweatpants and a white shirt that clung to his torso, showcasing the perfectly sculpted muscles of his upper body. His bedroom messy hair indicates he had just rolled out of bed. He looks like he belongs on the cover of a magazine, the kind that would make ladies swoon.

Maya found herself biting her lips with desire before she even realized it. She really needs to get laid; otherwise, she would end up acting like a horny dog around him. It had been a long time since she had been with someone. Her last relationship was with a French boy during her first year in Paris.

Maya blinked and put on a cheerful smile. "Good morning, Dalton," she chirped.

"Good morning," Dalton replied, his voice so raspy that Maya felt a string pull in her heart.

She sighed, realizing that she was a lost cause. She couldn’t deny it; she really has a crush on Dalton. Screw Soraya! she can’t help it. It’s not her fault that Dalton was such a beautiful specimen.

"I will eat breakfast today," Dalton declared, breaking the spell his handsomeness had cast on Maya.

"Okay," Maya replied, feeling relieved. She is eager to make him Belgian waffles for breakfast.

"You never eat breakfast!" Nana Rose gasped incredulously.

"From now on, I will," he declared

"What changed?" she asked, squinting her eyes at Dalton.

"Because I have a new chef," he answered rhetorically, tossing the empty bottle into a trash can in the kitchen.

"Bring the meal to my room when you’re done," Dalton tells Maya.

"Your room?" Maya blushed.

Dalton raised an eyebrow. "Yes, will that be a problem?"

"Uh... no," Maya said, forcing a wide grin to hide her nervousness.

"Good," he turned to leave.

"Wait! " Maya, stop him. She quickly picked up the avocado juice she had made and handed it to him.

"It’s good for your heart," Maya said, trying to persuade Dalton to drink it.

Dalton drank the avocado juice down to the last drop, much to Maya’s surprise.

"Did you just drink all the avocado juice?" Nana Rose exclaimed. "You hate avocado juice!" fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"I like it now," Dalton shrugged.

"So now you’re going to eat all the food you dislike?" Nana Rose grunted.

"Yes, as long as they are cooked by Maya, I don’t mind eating them," Dalton says over his shoulder as he walks away.

Nana Rose shakes her head and gives Maya an awestruck look. "You have bewitched him with that Lobster Ravioli."

Maya smiles, fluttering her lashes shyly. She won’t pretend she doesn’t feel smug about it; a sense of pride swells in her chest.
