The Billionaire's Rental Wife Is A Hot Shot-Chapter 34: Don’t Touch My Husband
Chapter 34: Don’t Touch My Husband
"That woman is such a pain in—" Damien controlled his anger and mellowed his tone since Evelyn was also present.
Zevian’s fist curled up, anger blazing through his eyes. He was ready to tolerate all Sabrina’s whines as long as she didn’t bring his daughter into their feud. But now that she had, he wasn’t going to let her off easily.
"Prepare the team," he ordered John, his voice tense with fury, causing everyone in the room to stiffen. Even Damien realized his friend was losing control and that such a disaster must be prevented. The devil inside Zevian needed to stay dormant for everyone’s safety.
Zevian brushed past Damien, who tried to hold him back, but luckily Evelyn intervened. "No, wait!" She grabbed his hand, causing him to turn around and glare at her.
"Breathe!" Evelyn demanded, her hand clutching onto his wrist tightly.
"Leave me! We don’t have time to be saints now, Evelyn!" Zevian glowered, his eyes intimidatingly cold—an expression Evelyn rarely saw.
Instead of being affected by his dark aura, Evelyn moved closer to him. When he tried to pull away, she placed her free hand on his heart and caressed it gently. "Breathe, Zevian!"
Everyone watched the intimate scene with surprise written all over their faces. When Zevian finally gave up and exhaled, closing his eyes, Damien stood with his mouth slightly open. This woman truly deserved to be his wife.
"Use your brain, not anger, Zevian. She is using the judiciary, and we must go the same route. Harming anyone would only push Kiana further away from us," Evelyn stated, her worried look underscoring the sense in her words.
Zevian looked at her, lost and on the verge of losing control. Evelyn’s heart ached to see tears almost forming in the corners of his eyes. He truly loved his daughter, and they would make sure to win Kiana’s custody.
"Are you close to any of the judges?" Evelyn asked, figuring out the best way out of this situation. When Zevian nodded, she subtly smiled.
"Great! You and John visit them with your lawyer, and come up with the best counterattack, while I go home and handle Sabrina. Okay?"
When Zevian looked hesitant, she added, "Trust me, I will make sure Kiana doesn’t step out of the house until you return."
Zevian nodded in response, and they quickly parted ways, with Damien personally driving Evelyn to his friend’s house.
The drive was tense, filled with silence as Damien navigated the streets. Evelyn’s mind raced with possible scenarios and strategies to keep Sabrina at bay. Damien glanced at her, admiring her composure in such a crisis.
"Now I know why he was head over heels for you," Damien remarked, breaking the silence and trying to lighten her mood. When Evelyn glanced at him, he continued, "I swear I wasn’t joking about the kissing poles. I can show you the videos once this mess gets cleared up."
Evelyn chuckled and nodded. "Yes, I’ll need them to keep your friend in check," she remarked, feeling giddy just imagining the scenes. Zevian had gone to Crumbac Country at the King’s special invitation. He had built a beautiful memorial house for all the brave soldiers there, and she realized it was just about a year ago, making her wonder if he still had feelings for her.
They reached the house in just a couple of minutes, and Damien dropped her off before driving to Zevian’s location. Avery, who had been updated by Evelyn, also arrived on time, both walking inside together.
"I am gonna kill her today," Avery grumbled, making Evelyn sigh. She realized that anger ran in this family’s blood.
They reached the hall to see Sabrina sitting on the couch, with Kiana on her lap. A lawyer stood behind her, his posture straightening at the entry of Evelyn, his client’s main concern.
Kiana, who had been silent until now, was elated to see Evelyn, a bright smile lifting her chubby cheeks. "Mommy!" she squealed and tried to get down, but Nana held her tightly.
"She is not your mommy," Sabrina scolded her granddaughter, glaring at Evelyn.
Evelyn met Sabrina’s icy stare before her eyes softened at Kiana. She warmly smiled at the little girl, having missed seeing her even though they were away for only a day.
"Since his wife is here, I think we can proceed," Sabrina said, glancing back at the lawyer, who nodded in agreement.
The lawyer passed the paper to Evelyn, which Avery grabbed hastily. Sneering at the elder woman, she glanced down at the orders.
"Let’s go, Ma’am," the lawyer said, and Sabrina put down Kiana. But before she could even take a step forward, Evelyn came in front of her.
"She doesn’t eat much during lunch and always gets the box back. She will be hungry; let her have something first," she said firmly, trying to buy some time. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Gratefully, Kiana nodded and said, "Yes, I am very hungry!"
"Let’s get something from your favorite restaurant," Sabrina tried to coax the little girl, who shook her head.
"No, I like Mommy’s food more. I want to eat the sandwich she makes," Kiana demanded. When Sabrina didn’t agree, she started crying loudly, forcing the elder woman to stay for a while.
Avery smiled proudly at Evelyn and winked at Kiana, quite sure the little devil was not hungry but helping her mommy fight this woman.
Evelyn rushed to the kitchen and took her time preparing the sandwich. After around thirty minutes, she heard sounds outside and rushed to find Zevian with his lawyer.
A sigh escaped her lips, and as their eyes met, she nodded at him, assuring him everything was fine.
"Daddy!" Kiana jumped down from the couch, tactically missing her grandmother’s grasp.
Zevian bent down as she ran towards him and hugged her tightly. A sigh escaped his lips, seeing she was not stressed or crying, and he kissed her forehead. Staring at a displeased Sabrina, he protectively picked up Kiana in his arms.
His lawyer stepped forward and passed a paper to Sabrina’s lawyer. "You can’t just take away Miss Kiana without her consent. It entirely depends on the child if she wants to stay with her father or come with you."
"A prospector from the court is here to take Miss Kiana’s statement," he added, pointing at a young man patiently waiting in the corner. Luckily, the judge was Theodore’s close friend, so he was able to arrange things quickly.
"I want to stay with Daddy!" Kiana said, understanding just a bit even before anyone could interrogate her. She wrapped her arms around Zevian’s neck and buried her face in his shoulder, her actions confirming she wasn’t forced to say it.
"This is ridiculous!" Sabrina screamed, taking the paper from her lawyer and tearing it up. She threw the pieces at Zevian, who simply stood like a statue.
"Tearing it doesn’t make a difference; we have another copy," the lawyer said with a smile, irking Sabrina even more. "And if you don’t believe us, you can ask the prospector here."
"No, Mrs. Grey. This is just how the rules are," the prospector said, stepping forward. Evelyn sensed another drama brewing and gestured to Agatha to take Kiana away, not wanting the poor child to bear the trauma of her family fighting.
As Kiana was led away, the prospector took another paper from his bag and passed it to Sabrina’s lawyer. "And this is a warning issued by the court if you forcefully take the child away against her consent in the future."
Sabrina’s fists curled up, Zevian’s calm expression heightening her frustration. Before anyone could speak, she raised her hand to hit him.
But before it could connect with his cheek, someone grabbed her arm and forcefully thrust her away, causing Sabrina to stumble back. Evelyn stood guarded in front of Zevian, startling not just him but everyone else in the room.
"How dare you?" Sabrina screamed, glaring at Evelyn. She moved forward to hit Evelyn this time, who grabbed her arm again.
"This will be your last warning, Mrs. Gray. Do not dare raise your hand at my husband again," Evelyn spoke, her icy voice and cold gaze silencing Sabrina completely.
