The moment Garth and her children stepped into Hamilton Corp, the air shifted. Workers who recognized them quickly rushed forward, their faces a mix of curiosity and unease.
Even though Garth and her children weren’t directly involved in the company’s daily operations, they still held power here. Owens Hamilton had ensured that every member of his family-owned shares before his death. They were part-owners, whether they worked here or not.
"Welcome back, Madam Garth! It’s been so long, it’s wonderful to see you," one of the employees greeted, casting a pointed glance at Claudia. The same Claudia who had been publicly disgraced not too long ago.
They each wondered what she was doing back here after stealing the company’s money.
Such boldness!
Garth didn’t waste time. Her voice rang through the reception like a whip crack.
"I want to see the fool who humiliated and framed my daughter-in-law. Bring him out!" she demanded, her sharp gaze scanning the gathered employees.
A tense silence settled over the room as the employees exchanged uneasy glances. No one moved.
Seated in the corner, Debra frowned. She had been involved with Claudia and was not afraid to admit it. She stared at Claudia and the Hamiltons, So this bitch couldn’t handle the humiliation, huh? She had to go running to her mother-in-law for help. How pathetic.
But no matter. They would all be humiliated a second time today.
Rising from her seat, Debra stepped forward with confidence. "I’m one of them," she stated boldly, her voice carrying through the hall.
Before she could say another word, a loud slap echoed across the space, sending a collective gasp through the crowd.
The sting burned across her cheek as she staggered slightly, eyes widening in shock.
Claudia’s lips curled into a satisfied smile. Yes. One by one, they would all pay for humiliating her. Did they really think they could stand against Garth and George?
"How dare you lay those filthy hands on my sister-in-law," Lia yelled at Debra who held her stinging cheeks.
"What’s with all of this commotion?" Gus stepped out. A worker had informed him about the incident going on in the reception and he decided to come check it out. Harlow had put him in charge of Hamiltons Corp until she returned, it is his duty to keep the organization still running till her return no matter what.
"He’s the one." Claudia immediately pointed innocently. "Even after telling them I didn’t steal any money, they wouldn’t listen. They beat me up and sent me to jail Mother. For something I didn’t do." Claudia cried out.
Garth’s face darkened with fury. "You imbecile!" she roared.
George, standing beside her, was already charging at Gus, his face red with rage. It took several male employees, including Stanley, to hold him back.
"How dare you touch my wife!" George’s voice shook with fury. His entire body trembled, veins bulging at his temples.
He had blamed Claudia before, labeled her a thief, but now? Now he realized how wrong he had been. How could he have doubted her? The guilt gnawed at him.
Gus, however, simply shook his head.
This woman... this lying woman. He had actually pitied her once. What a joke.
"It’s clear your daughter-in-law is lying," he said coolly.
"Shut up!" Lia snapped. She took a step forward, ready to lash out if necessary. "I don’t care what you say! I will stand by my sister-in-law even if I have to fight the whole world!"
Gus exhaled slowly, patience wearing thin. "Do we look like madmen who would randomly beat up a pregnant woman and throw her in jail?" He knew his boss’s family was a crazy set of people, but he didn’t think they were retarded.
Lia flinched, but she quickly recovered.
"You see this mark?" He pulled up his sleeve to show up the arms Claudia had almost disfigured during their argument.
"She gave it to me, now check what part of her body is bruised." He said and then there was silence.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Lia came to her sister in laws defense. "That mark is little compared to her image you have just tarnished with your lies. Who put you up to it huh?" Lia asked
"Is it the stupid Harlow? Did she make you lie against Claudia because of her insecurities?" Lia asked. She was hellbent on accusing Harlow and humiliating her before everyone today.
"If you don’t know," Gus continued, his voice calm but sharp, "this is a business. And an organization like this doesn’t accuse people without proof."
"Claudia was the only one in the accounting department when the funds were transferred. She was in charge of depositing the money into the company’s account." He let the words sink in before delivering the final blow.
"But instead of doing her job, she sent all 300 million to her personal account."
A heavy silence fell over the room.
Garth stiffened. George’s breathing became shallow. Lia’s lips parted, but no words came out.
As for Claudia, she had gone completely pale.
"Liar," Lia choked out, her voice barely above a whisper. "Where’s your proof?"
Gus didn’t hesitate. He pulled out Claudia’s cell phone and a printed copy of her bank statement.
"This is her account activity," he said, handing it over. "And here’s the timestamp of the transfer. The evidence is undeniable."
One by one, they scanned the documents. Their expressions shifted from disbelief to horror.
This was real.
This was undeniable.
They had come here expecting to humiliate others, but instead, they had walked straight into their own downfall.
Garth’s face turned red with embarrassment. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms.
She had come here to defend Claudia. Instead, she had been made a fool.
"Claudia," Garth finally spoke, her voice strained, "how could you?"
Claudia snapped her head up, her body trembling. "I..."
"How could you be so selfish?" Garth hissed, humiliation washing over her. "Why didn’t you tell me the truth?! You let me stand here and make a mockery of myself, defending a thief!"
Claudia’s lips quivered. "I... I... It’s your fault!" she blurted out. "I never said I didn’t steal! You were the one who insisted I was framed!" Garth turned even more furious, she couldn’t believe her help would turn out to be a bad thing.
"How can you say such Claudia? Mother was only defending you." Lia said.
"Why would you even steal such an amount, do you want us to go bankrupt? Is this how you would handle the company when you take over? Stealing funds?" Garth yelled.
George who has been standing beside Garth stared at Claudia like a total stranger.
