When Alanis saw his wife arrive, he smiled. Tonight would definitely be chaotic but just as Charlotte had told him, it’s best he let Harlow know the truth about him.
Keeping her in the dark longer would only make her forgiveness hard.
Alanis believed the few months spent together was enough to redeem his ten years of torture. It was enough to make her forgive him for being the worst father and husband.
It was enough to change her thoughts about him. Harlow had been the one to tell him she now loved him. He was so certain that he had won her heart again and that she would forgive him easily.
Even if she doesn’t forgive him, he’ll let her be for a day or two or even a week. And then find her again.
"You made it." Alanis stretched his hands towards her and Harlow didn’t hesitate to place her hands in his. She smiled as she stared at him.
It was only a matter of hours before her revenge started. Alanis will pay for the ten years of pain and endless torture he caused her.
"What are we doing here Alanis? We could have done the dinner date back at home rather than going all through this." She looked around the empty restaurant. There was no one around except two waiters standing at the corner.
The room was dark and the only light was centered around the table filled with a variety of dishes.
Alanis has turned one of the best restaurants in Halkhalls into this.
Did he buy the entire thing?
If he had done this two weeks ago, she would have been touched by it. But right now, all she felt was hatred. She wanted to be as far away from him as possible.
"You don’t like it?" He asked calmly wondering if he had done something wrong. The last thing he wanted right now was to upset his wife before telling her the truth about himself.
"That’s not what I meant. I just thought it was stressful to have arranged all of these." Harlow said calmly.
"Nonsense." Alanis waved her off. "Nothing is too much when it comes to you. Don’t forget I love you so much Villian." He said.
"Come Villian." He led her to the center of the room where the decorated table and chairs lay. Harlow watched Alanis draw out a chair for her to seat and she did, before hurrying to his own seat.
"You look so beautiful tonight." Alanis bellowed as he stared at his beautiful wife. He was glad he came to his senses quickly before reincarnating again to be with her.
In his past life, he had been stupid to pick Claudia over Harlow. And he wouldn’t dare make the same mistake in this life again.
The waiters standing at the corner both walked to the table. They didn’t need any command to start serving both people. One poured wine into their glasses and the other dished out their food.
"You’re not looking bad yourself Alanis." Harlow smiled.
"I don’t always look bad," Alanis said as a matter of fact. And he wasn’t wrong either.
"You said you had a surprise for me, what is it?" Harlow asked picking the glass from the table as she took a slow sip of her wine. Her eyes didn’t leave him, not even for a second.
"What’s the rush? Let’s eat." Alanis said as he picked up his cutlery to eat.
"We’ve been married for months now Harlow and besides your work like and your fantasies, I have no idea who my wife is." Alanis started.
He had only realized it a few moments ago, that even in this second life, he had no idea who Harlow was. What she liked. They couldn’t be like that in this life too.
He wanted to know everything about the woman he loved with all of his life.
"I am a lot, you have to be specific Alanis," Harlow said.
"I want to know everything. I want to know who my wife is." He said to see her smile.
"I’m Harlow Blackwood, now Harlow Hamilton. I only just discovered I’m an only child, all thanks to your help." She smiled.
"I am the infamous Miss H." Alanis eyes went wide a little at her words.
Who in Halkhalls doesn’t know about the infamous Miss H? She’s the same anonymous person who had helped him grow his business in the past, but he thought she hadn’t reincarnated with him since she hadn’t shown up again.
In the past, Harlow had been the one to help his business anonymously even if he had been so cruel to her. Alanis picked up the glass of wine on the table and gulped it all at once.
"Are you alright?" The woman seated before him asked with concern and he nodded.
"I’m fine." Alanis gave a reassuring smile.
"Alright. So as you already know, I’m the diamond queen and also the CEO of Hamilton Corp." Harlow beamed.
"You should know this by now." She said. "Judging that this is not your first lifetime with me Alanis." He paused, but there was no reaction on his face to give away anything.
"Oh wait, you were an asshole in the former," Harlow added. His face might give nothing, but his mind was in chaos. Alanis didn’t know how this woman found out about him before he told her.
He had done everything right. His acting was top-notch.
Or had his grandmother betrayed him? He shook his head slightly. Charlotte wasn’t one to betray anyone. She had been the one to tell him to speak to Harlow, there’s no way she would go behind his back just like that.
Or did she tell Harlow because she felt like he would never? But he had told her he would.
They had both planned the surprise together. There’s no way Charlotte would have betrayed him right?
"What, you can’t speak now? Did the cat catch your tongue?" Harlow asked when he said nothing.
She couldn’t pretend anymore, more seconds spent with this man was driving her insane. She felt disgusted that she had loved this man again. The same monster from her past.
"Wow, I can’t believe my wife has multiple personalities. I feel so dumb." Alanis changed the conversation quickly, acting like he hadn’t just heard what she said. Harlow smiled.
"Don’t try to run away from the conversation Mr Hamilton. There’s no escape now. I already know you’re the monster from my past." Harlow said.
"How long were you willing to hide it from me?" Her eyes moistened as she watched him. To think the monster who never paid her any mind was seated before her seemed like a nightmare. One she wanted to wake up from.
Somehow, at the back of her mind, she wanted Alanis to be different. She wanted him to be the Alanis who had no idea of her past. The one she had fallen in love with again."
"Who told you?" Came his question. He wanted to know who had betrayed him like this.
"Does it matter?" Harlow asked.
"How dare you lie to me!?
"If I had told you who I was from the start, you’d never forgive me, Harlow. I’m sorry I neglected you and our child in the past. You have no idea how much I regret everything I did to this day."
"Save your apology for whoever gives a shit about it. I will never forgive you Mr Hamilton and this is the last time you will ever see me again." Harlow rose from where she sat.
She didn’t have the time to argue with him, she needed to leave. Alanis was the last person she wanted to speak to or be with.
This time, Alanis will never be able to find her ever again.
He would search the world for her but would never be able to find her.
"Harlow," Alanis called rising from where his seat and running after her. He had a lot of explanations to give.
He didn’t mean to hide his identity, he was only scared of being rejected. He ran after her, but before he could get to her, Harlow had already left in her car.
Alanis got into his own car. The dinner had not turned out the way he expected. Harlow had not reacted the way he had imagined. The way she stared at him earlier made him realize how much she hated him.
But up until this week, everything seemed fine, so when did she find out?
Alanis shook his head. He couldn’t let her go. Not again. Harlow was his whole world, and without her, he was lost.
He ran after her, heart pounding, desperate to catch up. When he finally spotted her car ahead, he sped up, trying to reach her. Just as he was about to overtake her, a loud honk pierced the air.
A truck came out of nowhere and slammed into his car.
One second, Alanis saw a blinding light.
The next, everything went dark.
