The Birth of A Volleyball Legend-Chapter 445: Kikugawa High Overtunes the Game!
A few seconds ago…
While all the attention was on Kaito, that didn't mean the other Kikugawa players would just stay idle and wait for the boy to solve all of their problems. No, if they did that, they were sure that Arisawa Junya would hang their head instantly after the play was over. So, when Kaito went for a rebound play to get a second attack, some of them also lurked from the dark, trying to get a chance to attack in the middle of the chaos.
One of them was, of course, Suzuki, the team's captain.
Even though his ability to attract the opponent's defender was far weaker than Kaito's, he himself was far more than a decent spiker in the first place. Hell, he was even the one projected to be the team's ace at the beginning of the year before Kaito came and took over the team. If it was anyone else who was in his shoes, they would get insulted for being replaced by a mere freshman.
However, Suzuki was a team player. He never thought too much about his status as the ace or even as the captain. He knew that as long as everyone poured their heart into the game, those who were good would always have their time to shine, and he also believed he was one of them. And that was proven to be true as when he saw the rebound play from Kaito a few seconds ago, something clicked inside his mind, telling him that this was his chance.
'I have to move!' His consciousness told him. 'This is my chance! Everyone still has their eyes on Kaito, I can do this!'
It seemed that Kaito also noticed that, as even though the boy still asked for a second attack, he still gave the setter a subtle signal to go for the opposite wing where Suzuki was ready to ambush.
This was also some sort of character development for Kaito. For the boy who always frowned upon dirty play and always yearned for a head-on confrontation, to volunteer as bait for his captain was definitely a big deal.
Just in this play alone, all the Kikugawa players felt that the universe was on their side.
Of course, Suzuki wouldn't waste such a good chance to score a point. He didn't even need to see the position of the opponent's defenders, just spiking straight to the area close to the sideline. Kaede who was there reacted, yet the surprise brought by this play alone made him one second too late, and as a result, the ball just bruised his forearms before it flew outside of the court, giving away a point for Kikugawa High.
BAM!
"YOSSHAAAA!" Suzuki roared, celebrating in delight. Then, as if he was infected by Kaito, the captain didn't forget to turn around and said a piece of his mind to the Tsunemori team. "Come on! Ao-kun has already told you guys, we are not just Kaito! Be wary of any of us now!"
The other Kikugawa High players were dumbfounded, not expecting their captain to indulge himself in a trash-talk battle like this. Only Kaito had a huge grin on his face, knowing that his captain just realized the charm of being a villain. "Yeah! Come on! Don't think that I am the only one who can attack here!" He decided to add more fuel to the fire.
Of course, they would immediately be showered by the boos and insults from the crowd.
"Damn, there is another pest in their team!"
"It is their captain, right? A spineless bastard who let his kouhai stomp on him!"

"Oh, come on! Are you serious?!"
However, to everyone's surprise, there was a voice of resistance finally coming from the Kikugawa supporter's side.
"Fuck you, Tsunemori!"
"The gay bastard you are talking about is far better than all of your players combined!"
"Damn! No wonder your school sucks! You can only bark here!"
As the noises buzzed all around the building, all the Kikugawa players just stared at each other, flabbergasted by what they saw – or listened to. In the end, Kaito couldn't help but smile, nudging his captain a little before muttering, "Our supporters finally grow a spine, huh?"
While still in awe, Suzuki just nodded unconsciously, answering shortly, "Yeah, you are right."
At this point, they all knew that Tsunemori's supporter advantage was gone already, and next, it was their time to go for an all-out attack to capitalize on the momentum in their hand right now.

The next few plays suddenly became a nightmare coming true for Tsunemori High. Even though they were still in the lead, Kikugawa High managed to push them to the edge, not giving them any time to react. They – Kikugawa High's players – kept attacking from any direction; left, right, middle, and even from the back just to find out the crack on Tsunemori's defense.
Of course, it wasn't so easy to do that. After all, in terms of defense, they could be said to be one of the best in the tournament. Of course, that didn't count Konan High and Matsuyama Kita High which were on a different level already. However, Tsunemori High himself also found themselves having a hard time getting out of the pressure from their opponent.
Sure enough, even the toughest wall would crumble if it faced the wave of offense coming constantly from the other side.
BAM!
"Shit!" Kaede cursed after seeing the ball that he received flying far from Riku's position. "Sorry, Riku!"
"Don't worry, I get this!" Ogawa who was the closest player to the ball rushed, trying to get it first before it went too far. He managed to do it, but at the cost of the ball flying back toward Kikugawa High's side.
"Jimmy, come back! Get ready to defend again!" Yuki yelled, trying to ignore the sweat that rolled down his nose.
It had been about a minute since the last time the ball fell on the floor, and even though the rally lasted very long, it was pretty much a one-sided battle with Kikugawa High kept barraging them one spike after another. What made it harder for Tsunemori was of course the fact that most of the opponent players had already adapted to playing under the constant boos from the supporter, basically nullifying all the advantage that Tsunemori High had in this game.
Right now, with Kikugawa High finally being able to show their best performance, all the Tsunemori players were forced to fight for their lives to keep the ball alive. Unfortunately, that still wasn't enough, especially with Kaito suddenly coming for their blood.
"Ayane-san!" Kaito waved his hand excitedly, asking for the ball. The setter didn't hesitate even for a second as he tossed the ball immediately to the boy. At the same time, Hirano and Koji jumped together, trying to stop the attack.
However, as Kaito jumped, he almost seemed to be frozen in midair. Hirano and Koji widened their eyes in shock as they were going down first even though they jumped the latest.
"HA! I GET YOU AGAIN, BASTARD!"
BAM!
