The Blessed Beauty Returns with a Dimension-Chapter 933 - 909: Surprise
"Damn it, what’s all this babbling about? It’s the middle of the night, why aren’t you sleeping? What are you saying?"
A voice came through as the heavy iron door of the basement was kicked, making a loud thud.
Just as the door was about to open, Wu Yang leaned his pillow against the wall and nonchalantly leaned against it, coughing.
Bai Xiao was patting him on the back.
Wu Yang coughed violently, as if he was going to cough his lungs out.
"Brother, he’s seriously injured. Can you please find some medicine?"
Bai Xiao clutched Wu Yang’s arm tightly, her fingers trembling.
She asked with a calm expression.
"What medicine! I’m telling you, someone who won’t live long doesn’t need medicine! Stay put, or else I’ll feed you to the Divine Beast as a sacrifice right now."
The guard cursed and stormed out, slamming the door shut and locking it from the outside.
Bai Xiao let out a sigh of relief, and Wu Yang patted her arm, "Don’t be afraid, Xiao Xiao is coming!"
These words were encouraging; in their hearts, Xiao Xiao was their anchor.
Bai Xiao looked outside the door, and Xiao Yue slowly walked over, plopping down next to the door and leaning against it with a loud bang.
"What are you doing? Is it never-ending? If you keep messing around in the middle of the night, I’ll feed you to the wolves."
"Let’s go, let’s go up and sleep. Close this door, and we won’t hear a thing. Let them mess around, they won’t get out anyway. If they want to kick the door, let them kick."
The voices of two men slowly faded away, followed by a loud noise that could be vaguely made out.
Outside this big door, the exit was still far away; it seemed they weren’t worried in the slightest about them being able to leave this place.
Xiao Yue forced a smile and wiped the tears from his face.
His heart had nearly jumped out of his chest a moment ago.
"Quick, quick! Move your pillow; I need to talk to Xiao Xiao."
Bai Xiao pulled Wu Yang aside, who chuckled, while the atmosphere in the room suddenly became cheerful, as if the heavy gloom that had been pressing on them had suddenly lifted.
With the pillow out of the way, Bai Xiao leaned over the hole, "Xiao Xiao, Xiao Xiao, where are you?"
"I’m here. Quickly step aside, move away from this wall. I’ll make a hole here and get you out."
Jiang Xiaoxiao could hear everything coming through the hole clearly, and she could see with her own eyes the two guards walking away into the distance. It turned out that where they were trapped was not just a simple basement.
This basement was built with two entire rows underground, long corridors with small compartments on both sides, somewhat like prison cells, but also like small rooms.
At the end of the corridor was a massive door, and the guards had walked inside.
Of course, she couldn’t see what was behind the door since her line of sight was limited and couldn’t penetrate thousands of meters.
In the past two days spent there, she’d been rather diligent, at least observing the way out of the village.
Although she rarely left the house, she could move freely in the village. The problem was who in their right mind would wander around outside in this snowy weather.
To avoid drawing attention, Jiang Xiaoxiao stayed huddled in the house, but within the range of her sight, she roughly figured out a way out of the village following the paths taken by the villagers.
Even more importantly, she lived in the same house with five students, one of whom, a girl, was taken away. She tried to keep an eye on her, but after the girl moved beyond a 50-meter range, she could no longer see her.
All she could determine was that the girl had been taken to a small house not far from the village chief’s place.
The girl never returned, and when Jiang Xiaoxiao asked the guards, they said the girl didn’t like the conditions there and wanted to stay over there because they could eat the wild game hunted from the mountains. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The tone of their words was quite dismissive, and Jiang Xiaoxiao didn’t probe further. After all, the other four showed no concern for the matter.
Perhaps everyone felt the conditions were extremely harsh, as they only received one meal a day, which consisted of a single bun per person and nothing more.
Drinking water involved bringing snow from outside into the house to melt in a kettle before boiling it for consumption.
Some even heard that meat was available to eat over at the other house, which made some eager to volunteer to go there too.
But the guards said that the girl could help the village chief with some tasks, which was why she had such treatment. They, however, couldn’t and had to stay there for the time being to see if there might be such opportunities in the future.
Jiang Xiaoxiao didn’t believe such nonsense.
The village reeked of mystery, and Jiang Xiaoxiao didn’t intend to stay there long.
Leaving there was a priority. Despite the snow blocking the mountains and harsh conditions outside, survival in the mountains was still possible by finding a cave. At least she had a sufficient supply of food in her space.
Starving them was absolutely out of the question. Continuing to stay there, Jiang Xiaoxiao feared she couldn’t save the four of them and she’d end up being the only one left.
She was determined to take the four companions with her; they were too young to let them die there.
Jiang Xiaoxiao was convinced that the village’s secret had something to do with the students’ lives.
Why not take the people in the same room with her?
It wasn’t that Jiang Xiaoxiao didn’t want to take them.
She cautiously talked to them about leaving for the outside.
The village reeked of mystery, what if something went wrong!
As soon as she brought it up, someone scoffed, saying she didn’t know how good she had it.
The snow outside was so heavy that they’d freeze to death if they left. At least they had a bun to eat there, but if they left, were they planning to die out there?
The other students also shook their heads, advising Jiang Xiaoxiao not to entertain wild thoughts. At least inside, they had a warm stove; who knew what conditions awaited them outside?
Moreover, with the snow being so heavy and the mountain roads treacherous, they were unfamiliar with the terrain and had no one to rescue them.
The village chief said that such conditions might last a year. If it snowed for a year, people could really end up freezing to death.
None of them was willing to take the risk outside; they preferred to enjoy their current comfortable life.
Jiang Xiaoxiao didn’t say much more afterward, knowing that continuing might only cause resentment. It was also apparent because two more guards had been added in front of their door in recent days.
This proved that their conversations were being monitored, and what she said had probably raised their suspicions.
If she kept pushing the idea, she might not even be able to leave herself. Everyone had a choice, and if they chose not to leave, so be it.
Jiang Xiaoxiao could only do what she could and not worry about the rest.
But she would never give up on Wu Yang and the others.
At the very least, she could guarantee Wu Yang and the others would definitely follow her out.
