The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 386: The War (Part Three)
The air inside the old, dilapidated building was heavy with the scent of decay and danger. Emily tightened her grip on the hilts of her twin daggers, feeling the familiar weight and comfort of its presence. Beside her, Rylan’s sharp and alert gaze was scanning the darkness ahead.
"We’re not alone," Rylan murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
Emily nodded, her senses on high alert as she listened for the telltale signs of movement. The moment they walked out of the teleportation spell, they ended up inside this old building that looked like it was about to collapse at any given moment.
The bonds she shared with Kaiden and Shadow became stronger, signaling their presence nearby, yet, they were still at a distance from her current location.
Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the corridors, followed by the sound of claws scraping against the concrete floor. The rogues were near.
With a swift nod to each other, Emily and Rylan advanced, their footsteps silent as they moved through the shadows. The only sounds were the distant echoes of their adversaries and the steady thump of Emily’s heartbeat. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
As they rounded a corner, they were met with a group of werewolves, their eyes glowing with feral hunger. Emily tensed, her muscles coiling as she prepared for the fight ahead. With a primal snarl, the werewolves charged, their claws slashing through the air.
Emily met their onslaught head-on, her daggers flashing in the dim light as she parried their attacks. Beside her, Rylan moved with fluid grace, his movements a deadly dance of steel and shadow. Together, they fought as one, their movements synchronized as they drove back the relentless tide of werewolves.
Rylan once again remained in his human form and continued to fight alongside her. Their teamwork was one to be envious of as they took down the group of seven rogue werewolves within minutes.
But as the last of the werewolves fell, a new threat emerged from the darkness - Vampires. Their eyes were burning with crimson fire as they descended upon them with silent ferocity.
Emily and Rylan braced themselves, knowing that this battle would be even more dangerous than the last. Emily took hold of Rylan’s wrist and channeled her magical powers in him. "It will protect you from their bites." She whispered even though she knew the vampires could hear her loud and clear.
"It should be them who must worry about getting bitten by me." Rylan replied in a taunt right before he stepped away from Emily to finally shift into his wolf. Barely a few seconds later, in place of Rylan stood a big and strong wolf.
The vampires moved with supernatural speed, their movements a blur of motion as they closed in on their prey. Emily ducked and weaved, her daggers slicing through the air as she fought to keep the vampires at bay. Beside her, Rylan charged at the rogues, each one of his attack finding its mark with deadly precision.
But despite their skill and determination, the vampires were relentless. Their numbers seemed to multiply with each passing moment. But despite their numbers, they didn’t stood much of a chance when Emily finally called out on her powers and attacked them. Fire was the best weapon against them and soon enough, she had set several of the vampires on fire.
With a final effort, she unleashed another powerful wave of fire magic at the remaining rogues while Rylan took down two more vampires. This time, her fire showed no mercy as it lashed out at all the rogues despite their attempt at running away. Fire took over the place within seconds, and then, suddenly, it was over. The last of the vampires fell, their bodies crumpling to the ground in silent defeat.
Emily and Rylan stood amidst the wreckage, their chests heaving as they caught their breath. The air was thick with the scent of blood, burnt flesh, and death, but beneath it all was the undeniable sense of victory. They had emerged victorious, but they knew that the battle was far from over. They needed to find Kaiden and Shadow.
"Are you alright?" Emily asked Rylan and the wolf nodded his head in affirmative. "Good. Let’s go and find them." She took the lead and Rylan followed behind her all the while keeping his senses on high alert to make sure that they wouldn’t be taken aback by any sudden attack.
Emily focused on her bonds with her mates and let them guide her to what looked like a huge building. "They are on the rooftop." She whispered as her gaze shot up to look at the top of what seemed like a thirty plus storey building.
"Rylan, I need you to shift into your human form. Since we don’t know what’s going on there, we need to be careful with our moves." She told her wolf friend as she shoved a pair of trousers at him and turned away.
Barely a minute later, she found him tapping on her shoulder once he was done putting on the trousers. Grabbing his hand, she teleported both of them to the roof of the building while also casting an invisibility spell to hide the two of them. She also hid Rylan’s smell.
A moment later, the two of them appeared on the rooftop and Emily found around two dozen rogues guarding the rooftop. Looking at this group of the rogues, she could tell that these were the most powerful and strong ones. She also sensed the presence of a witch and a few fae halflings.
She felt Rylan tapping on her arm and when she turned her attention toward him, she found him signaling in a certain direction with a look of worry on his face. She followed the line of his sight and found herself looking at the centre of the area where a couple of familiar faces were present.
Both Shadow and Kaiden were there, bound to the chairs with iron and silver chains while their enemy stood right in front of them with a silver knife in his hands.
