The Broken Halo-Chapter 160: Twelve Elements
Simon did not expect to learn so much just from a single question, and he was very interested in the things he heard.
He could even see that some of his classmates were also interested in the words of Researcher Mahan.
’Elemental planes... I never knew something like that existed despite being a Demi-God and despite spending over six decades as the Hero of Earth.’
’Humans also have elemental affinities, but is it the same as demons? Do humans also have a connection to elemental planes?’
’If they do, how come I never knew about it? I should ask when he’s done.’
Just as Simon had this thought, Researcher Mahan spoke.
"Imagine that somebody is able to have S grade affinity for all the elements, that means the gate leading to all the elemental planes is wide open and the weight they’d have to carry would be far too heavy."
"The only theoretical method one can gain an affinity for all the elements is if they have a F grade affinity for all the elements, but that would be pointless at the end of the day."
"A F grade affinity is too weak, and having to bear the weight of all the elements for a F grade affinity is just not worth it."
Researcher Mahan shook his head.
"There are twelve elements. We have Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Wood, Lightning, Ice, Metal, Darkness, Shadow, Space, and Time."
"Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Wood are the basic elements, and we presume that the weight of the five basic elemental planes weigh the... ’least’. Meanwhile, the weight of the elemental planes of advanced elements like lightning, ice, and metal are heavier than the five basic elements."
"And when it comes to unique elements like darkness, shadow, time, and space, we presume that the weight of each elemental plane is a lot heavier than the planes of the basic and advanced elements."
"Wanting to have an affinity for all the elements means you’ll have to bear the weight of twelve elemental planes. It would be like you’re carrying the entire demon realm on your shoulders."
"Such a weight is too much for one to bear."
Simon furrowed his brows behind his Broken Smile Mask as he pondered on the words of Researcher Mahan.
"And like I said before, there is another reason why it’s impossible to have an affinity for all the elements is because of incompatibility."
"There are elements that are not compatible with one another, and if you have these affinities in your body, death would not be far away from you."
"Equilibrium, control, and balance. To have an affinity for all the elements, there must be balance and control, especially with opposing elements."
"This is also another problem, the more affinities one has, the more chaotic it would be in the person’s body and soul. It would be like you’re bringing all the other planes close to one another... Not exactly, but something like that."
Researcher Mahan paused for a few seconds as he looked down with a pondering expression, then he released a soft sigh as he quietly mumbled something none could hear and understand.
"Anyway, as I said, it is impossible to have an affinity for all the elements because of the weight one would have to carry and because of incompatibility of some elements."
"And this is not taking into account the fact that natural treasures that can grant one an affinity they were not born with are exceedingly rare. Then, you’ll have to find natural treasures that can increase your affinity to your desired level if it’s too low."
"Getting all of these takes resources, time, and luck. Something very few individuals have. This is also why very few choose to embark on doing such a thing because it would be better to advance to the higher ranks with what you have."
Simon nodded in understanding because the researcher was right. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Why waste your energy, resources, time, and mental health to search for so many resources in order to fulfill a dangerous dream.
It would be better to focus on what one had, instead of being greedy.
’But I can use Devour to get an affinity for all the elements as long as I become more proficient in it. I don’t need to search for resources because every walking demon with an affinity is a resource for me.’
’But the problem just like the researcher said, is the weight I would have to bear and the incompatibility issues.’
’Hmm... Maybe I would be able to bear more because I’m a Daemon and not a Demon? Though, I don’t know the difference between a Daemon and a Demon.’
’Anyway, I’ll have to be careful with the affinities I choose to devour in the future. It would be bad if I devour an affinity that would not be useful to me, causing me to lose out on a more useful and valuable affinity.’
After having these thoughts, he decided to ask the last question he had in his mind.
"Can I ask another question?"
Researcher Mahan eagerly nodded. "Of course. I’m a researcher, and I love it when kids like you are curious about things like this. I love sharing my knowledge."
Simon was indifferent to the researcher’s words, and he asked his question.
"I believe that humans also have an affinity. Are they also connected to the elemental planes like us?"
Researcher Mahan instantly shook his head.
"Absolutely not."
"Humans are... how should I put it... They are borrowers. Without the Blessings they receive from Gods, Demi-Gods, Martial Spirits, and even Elemental Spirits, they do not have a true connection with the elemental planes like us."
"And before I go into that, you should know that the elemental plane we’re connected to is different from the elemental planes humans are connected to."
"Humans generally call our control over the elements as magic, but we demons prefer to call it chaos."
"That’s because the elemental planes we’re connected to are the Chaos Elemental Planes, while the elemental planes humans, gods, and the rest are connected to are the Order Elemental Planes."
