The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 139: Are You Really Willing to Push Me Away?
Yelena didn’t believe that he didn’t understand.
Jasper leaned closer to her, "Didn’t you say the other day that you wanted me to be your shield, your umbrella of protection? Are you so willing to push me away today?"
"That’s because if I don’t do it, I can’t even take down that old lady beside Miss Alden."
Yelena didn’t hear Jasper say, no, he wouldn’t marry Nancy Alden.
So that means, their good news is indeed approaching, right?
Every time Yelena closed her eyes, the image of Anne being humiliated would flood her mind, and she would never let that happen again.
"Sir, it’s snowing."
Hailey said from the front seat.
Yelena was the first to lean on the window. Under the streetlights, the snow shadows were particularly clear, and soon it became heavy.
Jasper lowered the car window a bit, and the snowflakes eagerly rushed inside, "Do you want to go for a walk?"
Hailey instinctively shrank her neck upon hearing that.
It’s minus eight degrees tonight; when did her young master develop such an interest?
Yelena’s refusal was rather straightforward, "No."
Jasper was a bit puzzled, the TV said snow represents romance, "You don’t like it?"
Yelena turned her head and spoke softly, "If it keeps snowing like this, there might be snow accumulation tomorrow. If it forms ice, the roads will be very slippery."
In that case, covering the news would be a hassle for her too.
The phone in her bag rang.
Yelena looked at the caller ID; it was Dean Holloway. Hopefully, nothing was wrong this late.
She quickly pressed the answer button. "Hello, Dean."
"Yelena, are you home yet?"
"Not yet."
"Something happened on Prosperity Road; we need to go over there."
Yelena said okay and hung up the phone, glancing at the time; it was already 10:40 p.m.
She adjusted her collar, ready to get out of the car at any moment, "Sir, please pull over and let me out."
"What for?"
"There’s a story I need to cover."
Jasper hadn’t waited this long just to drop her off partway, "Let someone else go."
"No, it’s a matter of life and death; we can’t delay."
Jasper really felt like kicking her out.
"Where are you going?"
"Prosperity Road," Yelena heard Hailey instruct the driver to head there; she didn’t pretend to refuse, as it was hard to get a cab now, "Thanks."
The place where the accident happened was on a construction site, surrounded by tall dark blue iron walls. Yelena immediately saw Dean’s car.
"Sir, you should hurry back."
After saying this, Yelena hastily hung the press ID around her neck, and as she opened the door, the wind stabbed her face like a cold needle.
"Dean!"
Dean waved at her, Jasper looked out and saw that Yelena didn’t have an umbrella. Standing there talking to Dean for a while, a light layer of white settled on her head.
"Sir, should we leave?"
Hailey asked this, but waited for no reply from Jasper.
As the New Year approached, the construction site had already halted work, but now all the lights were on. Jasper glanced into the distance and saw someone seemingly sitting on the arm of the tower crane.
Dean looked grim, "They’re protesting for overdue wages; without it, they can’t go home. He’s been sitting up there for an hour."
Yelena raised her eyelids, her eyes pained by the glare of the lights, "In such cold weather, with no protective measures, what if something happens to him?"
"The police are here too, but they can’t find a way to get close to him; the man is very emotional and will only talk to a journalist."
The two of them talked as they walked inside, while Jasper stayed outside for a while before having the driver bring the car in.
There were guards at the construction site’s entrance, along with two security teams, holding dogs, fearing that tonight’s news would leak.
The car was just about to enter when they were stopped.
One of them approached the car holding a baton, speaking harshly, "What’s your business here?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Hailey didn’t roll down the window; even if she mentioned her master’s name, this kind of person wouldn’t recognize him.
They wasted quite a bit of time at the entrance, and Jasper’s face showed some irritation.
Hailey was sweating nervously, and after finally settling everything, the car was allowed to go inside.
When Jasper got out of the car, he saw Yelena already preparing to go toward the tower crane.
"Yelena!"
She was startled by the voice, and Dean, who was beside her, was still trying to stop her, "If anyone should go, it should be me!"
Yelena turned around and saw Jasper had come up to her; she was surprised, "Why haven’t you left?"
"What are you planning to do?"
"Go up and talk to him."
Jasper was alarmed, instinctively glancing at the height. The building was already fourteen stories high, against the vast snow. The person up there seemed to be frozen rigid, sitting still.
"You’re not allowed to go."
Yelena sighed, "The police and firefighters are here, but he’s very agitated, only willing to see a journalist, and only a female journalist. Sir, I don’t have much time to explain."
A firefighter climbed down from the tower crane, his face red from the cold.
"Speak to him. Climbing the tower crane is too dangerous, so later go up through the adjacent building."
Yelena took the helmet handed to her by the firefighter and carefully put it on. "But there’s still some distance between the building and the tower crane."
The firefighter’s throat was blazing, having just shouted too loudly up there.
"He agreed for the tower crane operator to go up, so when the time comes, they can move the arm toward the building. You have to calm him down, and we’ll see if we can take this opportunity to get him down safely."
Yelena dare not miss a word, "Okay."
Inside the building was dark, the formwork not fully dismantled; Yelena grabbed a flashlight and was ready to go in.
"Sir, don’t stay here; go back."
With his delicate disposition, he shouldn’t even be here.
At this moment, Yelena stood like a lonely brave, brushing off the snow from her shoulder, determined to go in alone.
Jasper grabbed her wrist, Yelena glanced at him, "I must go; don’t stop me."
"I’ll go with you."
"No way!"
The firefighter next to them also disagreed, "This isn’t a game; what if another person going up agitates him?"
Yelena withdrew her hand, "Don’t worry, I encounter situations like this often."
Time was pressing; she switched on the flashlight and entered the building.
Jasper watched her figure disappear from sight; he was lightly dressed, and Hailey came over to drape a coat on his shoulders.
"Sir, why don’t you wait in the car?"
He remained motionless, until after a long time someone by his side said, "Look, she’s on the rooftop now."
Jasper lifted his head slightly, unable to truly make out Yelena’s figure. He walked up to the car; the snow was getting heavier, like floating goose feathers.
She approached the arm of the tower crane, standing at the very edge of the rooftop, looking precarious.
