Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Don’t Throw Yourself at Men So Casually

Yelena Hughes’ teeth were chattering; the tighter she clenched them, the more violently she trembled.

Justin Sutton said in frustration, "I freaking already promised her! How am I supposed to explain this?"

Jasper Yale’s voice came from above Yelena Hughes, "Just tell her, I refuse to give it."

The man outside pondered, if Anne Hughes couldn’t be saved after taking the medicine, would Yelena still stay with him?

He couldn’t save her, but he wouldn’t be an "accomplice" either.

Footsteps retreated, quickly moving outside the room.

Hailey Jenkins approached calmly, "Young Master Sutton, let me see you out."

Yelena Hughes didn’t expect Justin Sutton to leave just like that.

As she staggered back in a daze, her leg hit the edge of the bathtub, and she fell into the water.

The overflowing water soaked Jasper Yale’s pants, and she emerged from the water immediately, "I’m sorry."

Yelena Hughes’ eyes were slightly red. Jasper Yale took off his wet pants and stepped into the bathtub; the water was hot, as if it carried Yelena Hughes’ body temperature.

She quickly rolled out, "Young Master, can you give me the medicine today? Even just one box will do."

Yelena Hughes couldn’t rely on anyone else, only on herself.

"I gave Justin Sutton a chance, and you saw that."

Yelena Hughes clutched the pain in her chest, "Please give me a chance too. If you save my sister, I will be forever grateful."

Jasper Yale turned his face to look at her, "You try being tough, and now you want to play soft?"

Looking at her pitiful appearance, Jasper Yale cupped Yelena Hughes’ chin and pulled her closer.

He wiped a finger across her lips.

Yelena Hughes saw the desire kindling in his eyes, and she forcefully pushed Jasper Yale’s hand away.

He leaned back against the bathtub with his eyes closed, "Refusal can be fun the first couple of times, but anymore after that, it becomes boring."

If Jasper Yale found this woman boring, he wouldn’t even want to see her, let alone tease her.

Yelena Hughes squatted on the floor, making her final compromise.

"How about a different way?" she said, moving her hand slightly.

Jasper Yale was amused by her suggestion.

"If you like sending out those photos, be my guest."

Yelena Hughes never had much hope, "Don’t worry, whether you give me the medicine or not, I won’t send out the photos."

Even if the deal didn’t go through, she couldn’t dig her own grave.

Offending either the Alden Family or the Yale Family would be a death wish.

Jasper Yale saw her squatting there motionless, "Still not leaving?"

He had lost all interest; his face was devoid of any desire, and his features were cold, making him seem unapproachable.

Indulgence or restraint wasn’t influenced by anyone’s provocations.

He was, by nature, a master of control.

Yelena Hughes got up to leave. As she walked downstairs, Hailey Jenkins saw her drenched appearance and kindly reminded her.

"Justin Sutton’s car is stationed at the iron gate; he hasn’t left."

Her arms were tightly crossed, feeling cold, "Can I hide here for a bit?"

Hailey Jenkins seemed troubled, "Young Master likes things clean..."

Water stains were everywhere from her descent. Yelena Hughes apologized, "Then can I stay in the courtyard?"

Yelena Hughes found a step to sit on, and Hailey Jenkins handed her a blanket; she was nearly frozen stiff.

"Thank you."

Yelena Hughes had a strikingly beautiful face, and as she looked up, she saw Hailey Jenkins watching her.

She clutched the blanket tightly, her teeth chattering, as she tentatively asked, "Is there... any other way?"

Hailey Jenkins answered straightforwardly, "No, only the Young Master can decide on this matter."

He went back inside, and Yelena Hughes sat dazed for a long while. Just as she was about to leave, she saw Hailey Jenkins coming back out.

He walked directly towards her and handed her something.

Yelena Hughes saw it was a box of medicine and was momentarily stunned before snatching it.

"Is this for me?"

Her eyes were filled with disbelief.

"The Young Master said to give you one box to try."

The expression on Yelena Hughes’ face instantly became lively; she clutched the box tightly, "Thank you."

She shivered as she walked out, and Hailey Jenkins watched her back, shook his head, and went back inside.

Jasper Yale happened to be coming down the stairs, "She’s gone?"

"Yes," Hailey Jenkins was a bit puzzled, "Young Master, why did you agree?"

Was it an act of great mercy? Unlikely.

Jasper Yale half-closed his eyes and said, "Without giving her a taste of sweetness, how would she know how effective this medicine is?"

If she didn’t know how good it was, how could she be willing to sacrifice everything for it?

Yelena Hughes returned home and, as she entered her room, saw her sister leaning against the door.

"Anne, I’m back."

Before Anne Hughes spoke, she gasped several times, "Sis, please come back earlier next time, I’m scared."

Yelena Hughes pulled out the box of medicine, took out two pills, and held them to her lips, "This is the new medicine I got, it’s said to be very effective, go ahead and take it."

Anne Hughes had always been obedient, swallowing them with water.

"It’s not good to just sit like that, go lie down for a while."

Yelena Hughes tidied up the bedding; late at night, the two sisters lay on one bed. Yelena Hughes had been so exhausted from running news that she immediately fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning, when she awoke, something felt off. She glanced to her side, and Anne Hughes lay with her eyes closed, motionless.

Yelena Hughes reached out to feel her breath, unsure if there was any.

She almost burst into tears, shaking Anne Hughes’ shoulder, "Anne—"

Anne Hughes suddenly opened her eyes, "Sis, what’s wrong?"

Her heart settled instantly, her nose still tingling, Yelena Hughes asked with a hint of a sob, "Did you sleep well last night?"

"Sis, that new medicine is really good," Anne hadn’t expected to sleep so soundly, "Am I saved? I don’t have to die, right?"

Yelena Hughes paused, then gently touched her face.

"My Anne is going to live to a hundred."

Yelena Hughes had a quick look at the medicine box; there was only a ten-day supply.

The next day, on her way home from work, Yelena Hughes saw Justin Sutton’s car in front of the company entrance.

Her face darkened slightly, hoping to ignore it.

"Yelena." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Justin Sutton opened the car door, quickly blocking her path, "Let’s have dinner together."

"No need, I’m very busy."

Justin Sutton didn’t notice her odd demeanor and forcibly grabbed her wrist, "I know you’re worried sick about your sister’s illness, but you also need to take care of yourself."

Yelena Hughes glanced at Justin Sutton’s profile, thinking it was just as well, some things need to be clarified.

On the way, Justin Sutton’s mouth didn’t stop, "For Anne’s illness, I’ve almost run my legs off."

"But that Jasper is really heartless, look at how my mouth is worn out."

Justin Sutton leaned in to kiss Yelena Hughes.

She turned her face away indifferently, "Really? Did you really approach him?"

"What do you mean..." Justin Sutton’s face darkened, "You doubt me?"

"Justin Sutton," Yelena Hughes’ smile had a hint of sarcasm, "Why would you offend Jasper Yale for my sake? It’s not worth it, is it?"

Justin Sutton turned the steering wheel, driving in the opposite direction of their original route.

He pressed the gas pedal, stopping in front of a courtyard house.

Justin Sutton dragged Yelena Hughes out of the car. She could barely keep up with his pace, "Let go, where are you taking me?"

Justin Sutton’s face was frighteningly gloomy. They crossed the courtyard and arrived in front of a house.

The man pushed open the door with one hand. Before Yelena Hughes could react, he shoved her inside.

She stumbled a few steps, bumping into a seated man. As she was about to fall, Jasper Yale grabbed her hand.

His fingers were slightly cool, gently squeezing Yelena Hughes’ palm.

"Stand firm, don’t just throw yourself at men."
