The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 129: Just Get Lost Already
But back then, Vera Xavier was awkward and withdrawn. Egged on by Cara Preston, she caused a huge scene at her grandparents’ house and said some truly horrible things.
Because of that incident, her grandparents had a poor impression of her.
She had thought her grandparents despised her. But later, after Cara Preston had utterly ruined her reputation, it was her grandparents who gave her a sum of money. They wanted her to start a business so she’d have a way to support herself.
If it hadn’t been for her grandparents’ support, Cara Preston might have had her killed much earlier in her previous life.
When Zachary Preston saw her silence, he assumed she didn’t want to go and tried to persuade her. "Your grandpa and grandma really want to see you again. I know it’ll take up a day, but..."
"Dad, I’ll go with you!" Vera Xavier cut him off.
Zachary Preston looked relieved. "That’s great. Focus on your studies for the next few days. I’ll take you to see your grandparents on Saturday."
Vera Xavier nodded eagerly. Zachary Preston added a few gentle words of reminder to balance her studies with rest, and then he left.
She closed the door and turned, only to bump right into someone. The shock almost made her scream, but a hand quickly clamped over her mouth. Only then did she see that it was Nathaniel Nathan, who had returned.
’Oh my god! He still hasn’t left! Don’t tell me he was hanging from the windowsill this whole time?’
Vera Xavier looked at Nathaniel Nathan, signaling for him to release her. Once she heard Zachary Preston’s footsteps reach the ground floor, she whispered, "Why haven’t you left yet?"
Nathaniel Nathan looked displeased, so Vera Xavier quickly added, "You’re amazing! To think you could hang from the windowsill for that long. Getting to see you twice in one night... what a wonderful surprise!"
Nathaniel Nathan’s expression finally softened a bit, and Vera Xavier breathed a secret sigh of relief. ’I can’t afford to offend this guy,’ she thought. Acting on a sudden stroke of inspiration, she said, "Did you come looking for me because you needed something?"
Nathaniel Nathan shot her a sidelong glance. "So I can’t come looking for you unless I have a reason?"
Vera Xavier was in no mood to play these games with him right now. She could only bite the bullet and say, "You can, you can! Of course you can! You can come see me whenever you want!"
Nathaniel Nathan looked at her and let out a nearly inaudible sigh. "I’m heading back to my unit for a mission soon. While I’m gone, you have to remember to think of me every day. If anything comes up, call me directly. Or you can find Joel Joyce in the residential compound; he’ll do everything he can to help you. And if those two women in your family cause trouble again, just let them have it. Slap them or beat them as you see fit. I’ll take responsibility for anything that happens."
The corner of Vera Xavier’s mouth twitched. He added, "If one beating doesn’t solve the problem, give them a second one."
Vera Xavier: "..."
Nathaniel Nathan’s brow furrowed. "Aren’t you going to ask how long I’ll be gone on this mission?"
’He’s driven me half-mad tonight,’ Vera Xavier thought, ’I just wish His Lordship would hurry up and get the hell out of here!’
She took a deep breath and asked, "So, how long will you be gone on this mission?"
Nathaniel Nathan snorted softly and flicked her on the nose. "Not a hint of sincerity in your voice."
Vera Xavier put a hand to her forehead. Nathaniel Nathan continued, "Vera Xavier, there’s one thing I must emphasize: You are my wife! I can ask you to fulfill your wifely duties at any time."
Vera Xavier decided to throw caution to the wind. She wrapped her arms around his neck, gave him a quick kiss on the lips, and said coaxingly, "Nathaniel, after you leave, I’ll think of you a thousand times a day! You have to think of me at least once, too. And while you’re on your mission, you’re not allowed to look at other pretty women. And more importantly, you’re not allowed to act like a hooligan with that serious face of yours in front of them!"
