The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 131: Too Scheming
Cara Preston added another point, "Also, my sister is about to take her college entrance exams. I’m afraid she won’t have the time or energy to take care of Mr. Nathan."
Master Nathan had long expected someone to object. He said calmly, "What you’ve said does make some sense, but the main issue with my health is my heart. Vera saved my life once, which means she has experience in this area. If I have a sudden emergency, she can definitely handle it."
He paused briefly before continuing, "As for her exams, there’s even less to worry about. If Vera lives with me, a driver will take her to and from school every day. I’m the only old man in the house, so it’s quiet. There won’t be any of those messy distractions to keep Vera from focusing. In fact, it will be more conducive to her studies."
He finished with a smile and said, "Let’s be frank. Vera is my savior. I would never do anything to harm her. Preston, wouldn’t you agree?"
The "Preston" he referred to was Zachary Preston.
Zachary Preston also knew that Rona Langdon and Cara Preston had been making things difficult for Vera Xavier lately, preventing her from studying in peace. He realized that living temporarily with the Nathan Family, under the guise of taking care of Master Nathan, would actually be more beneficial for Vera.
So, he turned to Vera Xavier and said, "This is your decision to make."
Master Nathan immediately started playing the victim. "Vera, you wouldn’t have the heart to watch an old man like me live all alone in that big, empty house, would you?"
Vera Xavier was speechless.
Cara Preston immediately grew anxious. ’Whether Nathaniel Nathan is home or not, Vera living at the Nathan residence sends a clear signal to the public—the signal that Vera is the Nathan family’s future granddaughter-in-law.’
So she said frantically, "Mr. Nathan, you might not know this, but my sister has always lived in the countryside. Some of her habits aren’t very good. I’m afraid that not only will she be unable to help, but she’ll just end up causing you trouble!"
After speaking, she looked around for an ally, but Rona Langdon had stormed off to her parents’ house last night in a fit of anger and hadn’t returned yet. The only other people in the house were Vera Xavier and Zachary Preston.
So she looked at Vera Xavier and said, "Sister, you should know how bad some of your habits are. This really isn’t a suitable job for you. Why don’t I go in your place?"
Vera Xavier could see right through Cara Preston’s little scheme. Just as she was about to retort, Zachary Preston shot Cara a glare. "Cara, what nonsense are you spouting!"
Cara grew frantic. "I’m not spouting nonsense! I’m telling the truth! Maybe my sister is fine with working in the fields, but asking her to take care of someone is just too much for her! Sister, this is a matter of life and death! You can’t just recklessly agree to it!"
Master Nathan shot Cara Preston a sidelong glance. He’d taken a strong dislike to her during his last visit. The girl was so young, yet her mind was full of schemes. She claimed to be looking out for Vera, but everything she said, both overtly and covertly, was meant to slander her.
’As an outsider, it isn’t my place to scold her. But someone of her caliber? Forget about Nathaniel Nathan not even giving her a second look; even if he did, I would absolutely never approve!’
Vera Xavier glanced at Cara Preston and said calmly, "I may be from the countryside, but what’s wrong with country people? Go back twenty years, and most of the people in this city came from the countryside. What gives you the right to look down on them?"
She was speaking the truth. Celestia was an agricultural nation. Just a decade or two ago, almost everyone came from a rural background.
