The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 76: I’ll Beat You Senseless
Vera Xavier’s indifferent expression infuriated Wesley Kane. He took a deep breath and said, "Vera Xavier, don’t forget you’re my wife. How dare you speak to me like that!"
Vera Xavier thought his memory must be terrible. She felt it was necessary to remind him, "Mr. Kane, have you forgotten? Our wedding was canceled, and we never got a marriage license."
"That doesn’t change the fact that you’re my wife!" Wesley Kane declared, full of self-righteous indignation. "As long as you obediently come home with me right now, I’m willing to overlook the fact that you ran out on our wedding day."
After he spoke, he lifted his chin slightly, as if his willingness to not hold a grudge was some great act of charity on his part.
Vera Xavier was almost impressed by his convoluted logic. She said coolly, "Is that so? Well then, I’d rather you hold it against me, because there’s no way I’m going home with you."
With that, she turned to leave. But there was no way Wesley Kane was going to let her walk away. He blocked her path again. "Vera Xavier, that’s enough! I’ve already been more than generous with you. Don’t push your luck!"
This time, Vera Xavier actually felt like laughing. ’He’d been generous with me? Sorry, I must have missed it!’
She crossed her arms and asked him, "So what do you want?"
Wesley Kane took this as a sign that she was giving in. ’He knew it. A guy as handsome as him... how could Vera Xavier possibly resist his charm?’ He gave a flick of his center-parted hair, lifted his chin, and said, "It’s simple. Go home and tell your dad to give the mining permit to my dad."
Vera Xavier smiled. "Is that all?"
"Of course not," Wesley Kane said, looking rather pleased with himself. "From now on, your dad just has to agree to any request my dad makes. That should about cover it."
Vera Xavier felt that continuing to talk to this imbecile was an insult to her own intelligence. She shot him a sidelong glance and turned to leave.
But Wesley Kane was persistent. "Vera Xavier, did you get all that?"
Vera Xavier couldn’t be bothered to respond. Wesley Kane reached out to grab her again. He’d already grabbed her twice today; there was no way she was going to let it happen a third time. As he lunged toward her, she executed a clean spinning knee strike, slamming it viciously into his crotch.
Wesley Kane’s face instantly turned ashen with pain. His tall frame crumpled, and he doubled over on the ground, pointing a trembling finger at Vera Xavier. "You... how dare you!"
Vera Xavier reached down and patted Wesley Kane’s cheek. "Normally, I wouldn’t waste my breath on a moron like you, because it’s pointless. But since you seem a little slow, I’d better spell it out for you. So listen up, and listen good!"
Then, she enunciated every single word. "First of all, I have absolutely no interest in a self-absorbed, promiscuous stud like you. Since I broke off our engagement, there is no way in hell I would ever marry you! Secondly, I never get involved in my father’s business, and I would certainly never pressure him to do anything that goes against the public interest! And finally, don’t you ever come looking for me again. If you do, I’ll beat you up every single time I see you!"
With that said, she adjusted the strap of her backpack and turned to leave. But as she turned her head, she saw Shirley Forrest standing not far away, watching her with great interest.
Vera Xavier gave a small smile and shrugged.
Shirley Forrest’s expression remained as icy as ever, but she walked over to Vera Xavier’s side and said, "Now I believe you’re serious about focusing on your studies."
