The Civil Servant's Job is to Raise The Furries!-Chapter 219 - 218: Held Back a Trick
Two bags of prop pig blood bags rolled out from under the robe of the ancient-style male god Zhang Chenyi onto the spacious stables, drawing everyone’s attention.
The entire set fell into a dead silence.
Even the director was dumbfounded.
The three stagehands bribed by Zhang Chenyi were now awkwardly standing in place.
Jiang Mo dismounted his horse, raising his brow slightly: "Mr. Zhang, in this scene... it seems the director didn’t plan for any bleeding, right?"
His voice wasn’t loud, but it was clear enough for those around to hear: "Or did Mr. Zhang script this himself?"
The cameras of on-site shutterbugs and fan sites were all aimed at the blood bags on the ground.
"Damn! Is this trying to frame someone?"
"Impossible! How could Mr. Zhang..."
"Why impossible? The horse suddenly going wild is strange, and he prepared blood bags in advance?"
"Moreover, when Zhang Chenyi shouted as the horse went crazy, didn’t he say, Jiang Mo, it’s not slandering if no one believes this."
Zhang Chenyi’s fans couldn’t believe their idol would do such a thing, stubbornly argued: "What if it’s a props team mistake, and they put the blood bags for the next scene on Chenyi in advance?"
The set was in chaos, and the director’s face turned cold: "Zhang Chenyi, what is going on here?"
As a director capable of obtaining cooperation with Xizhou Province, Director Luo wasn’t afraid of the actors’ influential backgrounds.
Zhang Chenyi’s face turned pale, his lips moved slightly: "Director, the stagehands informed me that this scene needed blood bags for an injury scene."
One of the stagehands bribed by Zhang Chenyi quickly approached Director Luo with a guilty expression: "Director Luo, I’m sorry, it was my fault for conveying the wrong message! I mixed it up!"
Director Luo, having worked in the directing industry for so many years, could not be fooled this easily.
"Just focus on filming, don’t give me these distractions that interfere with shooting—this is a provincially supported project!"
Zhang Chenyi cast a cold glance at Xu Ying: "Director Luo, aren’t you curious why this variety show guest is on set, and even working on handling the horses?"
"She disrupted the order of the set! I even suspect she had something to do with my horse losing control."
Xu Ying flashed her work ID: "Oh, I am representing the Desert Scenic Area Zoo and West Continent Animal Protection Association, here to oversee these animal actors on set."
"So I am sort of a supervisor—oh, this is something Director Luo is aware of."
Xu Ying grinned widely.
After signing the cooperation contract with Jiang Mo, she anticipated that she might need to reveal her identity on set, so she prepared in advance by informing Director Yi and applying for a legitimate work ID, also secretly notifying Director Luo.
In Jiang Mo’s eyes, Xu Ying was someone he didn’t even realize he admired and respected, Little Xu Station Chief’s work is truly flawless.
Zhang Chenyi’s face went stiff, he thought Xu Ying was someone Jiang Mo secretly brought onto set, he didn’t expect Director Luo to know!
He looked towards Director Luo, whose face was now ashen.
"We won’t film this morning!" Director Luo snorted coldly: "We won’t have peace until we solve this major issue with the crew!"
"Luckily, we discovered the problem early, just after filming started!"
Zhang Chenyi’s face remained tense; could the "major issue with the crew" mentioned by Director Luo be referring to him?
Zhang Chenyi was helped up from the ground by his assistant; he had strong mental resilience, and his complexion had already returned to normal.
"I ask the director to examine closely, I really am a victim here."
Once Cheng Feng was calmed down, Xu Ying knelt down to carefully inspect the wound on its neck.
The needle mark was small, but the surrounding area was already bruised, indicating a harsh penetration.
"Venous bleeding, needle prick mark." She looked up, her sharp gaze sweeping over everyone on set, "As for whose needle it is, a fingerprint test will tell."
"Mr. Zhang, where did you throw the needle?"
—"What are you talking about? What needle?"
Zhang Chenyi looked up in confusion, showing no trace of acting.
Xu Ying stared into Zhang Chenyi’s eyes, smirked slightly but didn’t answer immediately.
She gently stroked Cheng Feng’s mane, whispering: "Cheng Feng, where’s the needle?"
The horse shook its head, exhaled heavily: [He threw it... over there...]
Xu Ying squinted her eyes, following the direction indicated by Cheng Feng—that was a sandy area on the edge of the set, surrounded by stacks of hay and props for filming.
"Squeak squeak squeak, come out quickly." She called gently.
Almost instantly after her voice fell, a small gray-brown sand rat emerged from her backpack, skillfully jumped onto her shoulder, sniffed Cheng Feng’s wound with its tiny nose, and then darted away.
This little sand rat was saved from the mouth of the falcon Lightning by her, a veteran local of the stables.
"Wow, it’s the sand rat from Little Xu Station Chief’s work journal!"
"Is it helping to find the needle? It’s too smart!"
All eyes followed that tiny figure.
Zhang Chenyi’s face froze for a moment, almost imperceptibly, but soon regained his composure, even showing a hint of a helpless smile: "Miss Xu, are you joking? Using a mouse to humiliate me?"
Xu Ying ignored him, her eyes followed the little sand rat closely.
The little creature scurried quickly across the sand, finally stopping beside an inconspicuous bale of hay, [Little Xu Station Chief, it’s here!]
Xu Ying put on her evidence-collecting gloves, pawed around where the sand rat indicated, and retrieved a needle from the sand, placing it into an evidence bag.
Xu Ying held up the evidence bag to the crowd.
Her voice was crisp and cold: "The needle has been found."
The crowd erupted.
Zhang Chenyi’s pupils shrank slightly, but his expression remained puzzled: "What does this prove? There are so many props on set, who knows whose needle this is?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Xu Ying chuckled lightly: "Is that so?"
She turned to the director: "Could you please replay the recent surveillance footage, to see Mr. Zhang’s hand movements."
The director immediately signaled the cameraman to replay it.
In the high-definition footage, at the moment when Jiang Mo’s sword brushed past Cheng Feng’s neck, there indeed was a flash of silver at the edge of Zhang Chenyi’s left sleeve—it was so quick, but slowing it down revealed it to be a fine needle.
Zhang Chenyi’s fingers trembled slightly, but his voice was still calm: "That’s just a reflection from the props used during overlapping shots, maybe Miss Xu is being too presumptive."
Xu Ying stood up, looking around, her voice clear and steady:
"I believe many people know that I am a Beast Language Communication Master, able to understand what animals say."
She patted Cheng Feng’s neck, "Just now, Cheng Feng told me it was Zhang Chenyi who pricked it with an embroidery needle, causing it to go wild in pain—not Jiang Mo’s sword."
The whole set was in an uproar!
Zhang’s fans immediately burst into a clamor:
"You’re the only one who can understand animal speech here, so whatever you say goes!"
"Exactly! Who knows if you’re not purposely defaming Mr. Zhang!"
Xu Ying sneered, about to retort, when suddenly—
"Make way."
A low, cold male voice came from the back of the crowd.
The staff gathered around automatically opened a path, and a tall man strode forward.
He wore a deep blue police uniform, the badge on his shoulder shining coldly in the sunlight, with sharp brows and eyes that cut like knives.
