The Civil Servant's Job is to Raise The Furries!-Chapter 27: Workplace Group Chat
Xu Ying nodded, unsure of how to describe the feeling in her ears as if her brain had its own translator: "I can communicate with cats without any barriers!"
"When they meow to me, I can naturally understand what they mean."
"Not just cats, but bears too."
At this point, Xu Ying looked around, "By the way, where’s Brother Gobi Bear who did such a great job?"
She searched everywhere for Gobi Bear, eventually finding it hiding away from the crowd.
Xu Ying said to Chen Su, "Excuse me, I need to step away for a moment."
"I don’t know why, but Brother Bear has been becoming introverted lately."
Chen Su saw the big bear in the distance, looking introverted, and nodded with a smile. These animals were so interesting, their personalities even more vivid than humans.
Xu Ying entrusted the Little Sand Cat to the Black Jungle Cat and approached Gobi Bear.
"Thank you so much today, Brother Bear!"
Xu Ying patted its shoulder: "Oh, how’s Sister-in-law Xiong doing now? I remember her due date is in less than a month."
Gobi Bear’s dark eyes widened in surprise, shyly scratching its head: [I’m still single.]
[Did you mistake me for someone else? This is our first meeting.]
Xu Ying was stunned by its words, carefully observing the Gobi Bear to finally notice there were no wounds on its arm.
She felt embarrassed, wanting to dig a hole to hide in, and suddenly became polite and courteous: "Sorry about that, brother, I was too anxious at the time. You cooperated with me so well that I didn’t notice anything unusual."
"I apologize for troubling you. If there’s anything I can help you with, just let me know."
Gobi Bear, seeing Xu Ying’s awkward demeanor, became awkward too: [Maybe, you could just treat me like before.]
Its head-scratching gesture was a bit silly but also very sincere.
[That will make me feel like a friend. It’s very lonely in this Desert Area with no friends.]
Xu Ying felt as if she saw loneliness and sadness in the Gobi Bear’s eyes. Compared to the bear group she had seen, this Gobi Bear seemed more worn and sluggish, giving Xu Ying the impression of poor mental health.
She knew that solitary animals, due to lack of social interaction, monotonous environments, or stress, might suffer from depression.
However, the current animal investigation samples mainly consisted of cats and dogs, and now it seemed that solitary animals in the desert were no exception.
Depression leads to decreased appetite and activity frequency in animals, adversely affecting their health and accelerating their death.
[Such fun capturing activities. Would you still take me next time?]
Gobi Bear, seeing Xu Ying remain silent, gradually lowered its voice and finally lowered its head, returning to its previous introverted, uneasy look.
Xu Ying was speechless because she was caught off guard by the Gobi Bear’s words. In her view, the thrilling encounters with those bad guys were seen as fun by the Gobi Bear.
"Of course! We can be partners!"
Xu Ying hugged the Gobi Bear’s arm: "Having you around gives an amazing sense of security!"
Hearing Xu Ying’s affirmative answer, Gobi Bear immediately lifted its head, showing its big white teeth in joy.
Just then, Chen Su shouted from the distance: "Xu Xiaozhan, we can wrap it up now!"
"The fifth person has been found."
With the exact location known, deploying reconnaissance drones, Chief Qin’s colleagues quickly locked onto the fifth spy.
"Do you want a ride out of the unpopulated zone?"
Xu Ying said to Gobi Bear, "Follow me later; we’re getting ready to head back."
She then trotted over to Chen Su: "I came on a motorcycle, but I indeed want to hitch a ride."
Xu Ying pointed to the Black Jungle Cat and Little Sand Cat: "Can my two partners hitch a ride with you?"
"Oh right." Xu Ying also pulled out the Sand Rat Boss hiding in the sandpit, "and this one!"
Chen Su and his colleagues looked at the two cats and one rat in front, big eyes staring at small ones.
Their police car had carried all kinds of people, but it was the first time for such rare guests!
Chen Su opened the back door, making a welcoming gesture: "Then, would the three great contributors please get in the car?"
Xu Ying placed the Little Sand Cat in the back seat, and the Black Jungle Cat skillfully jumped onto the car.
Only the Sand Rat Boss left, trembling in place: [Are you sure the mouse should be with these two cats?]
Chen Su saw the sand rat standing still on the ground like a sculpture, and couldn’t help but smile, extending his hand towards it, "Would you like to stay in my pocket instead?"
Sand Rat Boss’s small eyes twinkled as it looked at Chen Su; how did this guy have the same aura as the Black Jungle Cat, that kind of righteous air was what sneaky mice like it feared the most.
However, after weighing its options, it still followed Chen Su.
The little animals got on the ride, while Xu Ying went to start her motorcycle.
As she was about to start the motorcycle, she suddenly heard a plaintive voice at her feet: [Partner, partner, I need a partner.]
Xu Ying looked down and saw the King Cobra slithering gloomily by her feet.
She slapped her forehead, almost forgetting about their single "king."
"Alright, alright, I’ll put out a personal ad for you when we get back."
The King Cobra, upon hearing this, raised its upper body, gracefully coiling onto Xu Ying’s motorcycle handlebar.
The person and snake set out toward Rescue Station 032.
One and a half hours later, Xu Ying arrived at Rescue Station 032, finding the two cats already waiting at the door for her to open it.
The Black Jungle Cat nodded at her: [The sand rat burrowed into your house as soon as it got out of the car.]
"Sorry for the wait!"
Xu Ying parked the motorcycle, took out the key, and opened the door.
Just in time to catch the Sand Rat Boss picking up cookie crumbs from the floor.
Suddenly, the Little Sand Cat leaned down close to the Sand Rat Boss.
The Sand Rat Boss, caught off guard, froze on the spot, thinking it was about to be bitten by the Little Sand Cat the next moment.
But instead, the Little Sand Cat just pecked its head and nudged it.
[Thank you, Little Desert Rat!]
The Sand Rat Boss, having been kissed by a cat, was dumbfounded and froze on the spot.
It was just about to shyly cover its face, but then it heard the Little Sand Cat say: [I won’t eat you today, maybe next time.]
The Sand Rat Boss immediately fled with its underlings, and Xu Ying didn’t even have the chance to say goodbye.
"Oh well, I’ll just go visit Sand Rat Boss at its place next time."
Xu Ying shook her head and turned to see five Little Ear Foxes peeking their heads out from behind the transport box, like groundhogs: [Sister, you’re back~~~]
Feeling happy again, Xu Ying called out the names of the five little foxes individually and introduced them to their new friend, the Little Sand Cat.
Xu Ying and the Black Jungle Cat discussed that the Little Sand Cat would stay at the rescue station to heal its wounds first and "learn skills" from the Black Jungle Cat once it recovered.
Just then, Xu Ying’s phone vibrated with a message from Ning Zexi.
"Station Chief Xu, I successfully applied to be a temporary rescuer."
"After handing over with the person in charge, I was added to the small work group. Why aren’t you in it?"
Work group?
Xu Ying felt an ominous premonition at hearing those words. She had seen those dramatic scenes in TV shows where there were five members with six small groups in a dorm room.
Seconds later, she received a message from Ning Zexi.
"Oh my god, they’re talking about you in that group and even said they’d report you."
