Chapter 2291: Chapter 2293: Not Leaving the House

"Indeed, now Mother can enjoy her golden years at home."

Yang Chuxia smiled and added, "I heard from Brother An that Linhao will be back soon. I reckon it won’t be long before Uncle comes to discuss the wedding date with Yunyun."

"I’m not worried about Yunyun, it’s Qingtong I’m concerned about."

Afraid that mentioning Qingtong might upset her, Yang Chuxia shifted the topic, "Mother, how has my great-uncle’s health been these past two years?"

"It’s alright, though he doesn’t get out much, he still eats well."

"As long as he can eat, that’s good." Yang Chuxia asked again, "And how about my grandmother? How is she?"

"Your grandmother’s health isn’t as good." Ms. Wang sighed and said, "Last time your second uncle came back from the Capital City, he brought back news of Qian Xiaoqing. After learning about it, your grandmother got angry and even scolded your second aunt. Your grandmother wanted your second uncle to divorce your second aunt, but your second uncle didn’t agree, and your second aunt argued back. Later, your grandmother fainted from anger. She was getting better with medication and consulting doctors, but who would have thought, this spring she caught a cold which developed into an illness, and she’s been bedridden ever since."

"Who takes care of grandmother on a daily basis?"

"Your big aunt and second aunt take turns taking care of her, one for each month," Ms. Wang remarked with a curl of her lips, "I used to think your big aunt was a pretty good person, but who knew when sickness came, after less than half a month of caring for your grandmother, she started slamming bowls and dishes."

Having long been ill, Yang Chuxia thought that as the daughter-in-law, big aunt wasn’t directly related, so her behavior was somewhat understandable.

"It’s strange," Ms. Wang mused, "I thought your second aunt would be the unwilling one. Who knew your second aunt took care of your grandmother without a word. According to your grandmother, she did better than I did."

"Though your second aunt might be muddle-headed, she’s not really unkind, otherwise she wouldn’t have doted on Qian Xiaoqing, her niece."

Yang Chuxia further inquired, "So now that Mother is here in the Capital City, how is Grandmother being looked after?"

"I gave both your aunts thirty taels of silver each to take my place in caring for her." Pausing for a moment, Ms. Wang added, "Technically, as a married daughter, it’s not obligatory for me to take care of her." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Ms. Wang wanted to say more but stopped, thinking it was somewhat odd to discuss these things with her daughter.

"No more talking," she yawned and smiled. "Someday, you take me into the city for a look around. Last time your big aunt went back to show off and everyone in the village was very envious."

"Alright, I’ll take you around the Capital City for a good tour."

Soon, both mother and daughter fell asleep!

When Yang Chuxia awoke, she found Ye Zi’an practicing boxing with the children in the garden and asked, "Why didn’t you attend court today?"

"I took leave from the Emperor, saying family had come from the hometown and the children are back, so I’m staying home with them."

"Oh, you used that excuse to take leave? Aren’t you afraid the Emperor will say you’re spoiling the children too much?"

"Why should I be afraid?" Ye Zi’an replied, "He knows my intentions and will surely approve the leave."

"From the way you say it, is there more to this leave?"

Yangyang had finished his boxing set and was wiping his face with a towel. Hearing her question, he chimed in, "Of course! Father always has profound reasons for his actions."

"Oh, really? You know?"

"Of course I know!" Yangyang proudly lifted his chin, "Father is just avoiding those inquiries about who will be named Crown Prince, isn’t he?"

"Indeed!" Lele tapped his head, "Well done, becoming smarter."
