The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1050: Crimson Purgatory
Chapter 1050: Crimson Purgatory
Qilin flew diagonally into the sky.
Although it was only a simple punch, although it was only a third of what Gao Yang was capable of, it was still backed by a Strength of 2100 points; it hit hard against a Qilin without any defense.
After Wave of Serenity silenced him, Qilin couldn’t use Unreachable again anytime soon.
He did respond as quickly as he could. With his great Willpower, he smothered his sense of pain as much as he could to keep himself clear-headed. The moment he was thrown off his feet, he activated Phantom, Hedgehog, and Muscles to lessen the blow, and then he used Ke Yo’s Strange and Liao Liao’s Disorientation to try to put the fight on pause, giving himself time to recover—
What?!
He realized to a start that Gao Yang was already with him when the sonic energy rose to his throat—after the three-minute cooldown, Gao Yang had immediately used Flash Shadow once more to lock onto Qilin.
He didn’t have the time to charge up Fire Punch, so he hit Qilin in the chin with another regular punch.
Powerful shockwaves rippled. Qilin soared higher still like a missile, flying above the Green Lotus Park.
The hit in the chin had given Qilin a concussion, shutting his brain down for three seconds. In his almost blank mind, only one thought remained:
Why is Gao Yang so strong?
Qilin had used multiple Talents to increase his defense, yet this punch hurt more than the previous one.
Unbeknownst to him, Gao Yang had decisively used Willful Power after the first punch landed, betting everything on this chance attack.
Now, his stats were:
[Constitution: 1 Endurance: 1]
[Strength: 7901 Agility: 8675]
[Willpower: 7472 Charisma: 1]
[Luck: 2100]
After the second punch, Gao Yang was up in the air without Fly or any stepping stones for another jump. Teleportation didn’t have a long enough range. He could not chase after Qilin at this rate.
And he didn’t try. He trusted himself and his greatest partner.
Without hesitation, he stabbed himself in the chest with a knifehand, grasping his heart and crushing it—he didn’t destroy it completely, but the great pain he did to himself was irreversible.
He threw up blood.
Killing Expert in dying state!
Berserking mode, full on!
Not even War Tiger had gone this far since it would only allow for another two to three seconds of survival. It was meant to maximize the potential of a human body in the moment of death.
But Gao Yang went for it.
He had activated Spirit Domain, slowing his death down by three times, giving himself six to nine seconds.
That was more than enough!
...
Meanwhile, Gao Yang’s double had Spatial Jumped with Qing Ling, appearing right above the Green Lotus Park, where Qilin would fly to.
Qing Ling didn’t even pause before stomping on the double’s abdomen as a launching pad.
“Gah!”
Gao Yang’s double cried out in pain and plummeted, while Qing Ling rushed toward Qilin wielding two blades and surrounded by a dozen other weapons.
Three seconds later, Qilin recovered from the brain-numbing punch. He clenched his fists, about to counterattack with his other Talents.
Then he saw a purple flash.
Qilin aborted and used his gathered energy to enhance his defense.
Between one moment and the next, the fierce blade of the Tang Dao cut into Qilin’s forehead, almost shattering his shadow armor. He had to use Telekinesis to barely endure the slash.
Qing Ling’s hand shook. The Tang Dao flew out of her grip, and the Golden Armor was cracked in the forehead area—a result of Hedgehog reflecting damage.

However, Qing Ling had developed a level of resistance to Hedgehog, so that much reflected damage was bearable.
The slash on his head scattered Qilin’s focus by seventy to eighty percent. When he recovered, a dozen blades were already circling him, connected by dancing currents to form a lightning cage. It numbed him and slowed him down.
With the first hit failing to kill Qilin, Qing Ling grabbed the Green Dog Demon Blade and stepped on her other blade for a quick return. This slash landed on Qilin’s chest.
In seconds, Qing Ling zigzagged around the cage of blades like a lightning spirit, switching weapons and hitting Qilin in different parts of his body nonstop.
In an instant, she had used up all of the blades.
Not enough!
While she was attacking Qilin with the array of weapons, she had been lifting a greatsword to herself—War Tiger’s Dragonslaying Giantsword.
She secured her hands around the hilt of the sword and injected it with the blade aura of level 6 God of Blades, while Limitless Evolution gathered explosive power in her hands.
“Hah!”
With a powerful upward swing, a great cyan arc sliced the sky open like a scar in the veil of darkness.
Qilin flew higher still at the collision. The gash on his chest was deep enough to reveal his bones. The injury was critical.
At that moment, he couldn’t help but feel relieved that War Tiger hadn’t been wielding the blade and injecting it with the tremoring power of Killing Expert; otherwise, Qilin’s energy pathway would’ve been shattered, leaving him with no chance to turn things around.
Qing Ling wasn’t strong enough to kill Qilin when he had all his defenses on, not at this moment.
Qilin suppressed his pain and—
A flash of red startled him. Gao Yang!
After crushing his own heart, Gao Yang had jumped onto a rooftop to observe the scene, and when Qing Ling made the slash with the greatsword, he had used Spatial Jump to bring him to the point where Qilin would be hurled to, awaiting his chance to make the final blow.
Qilin’s shocked, fearful eyes reflected Gao Yang.
The young man’s black hair was a mess. His chin was covered in blood. An open hole was gushing blood in his chest.
Behind him was a wing of flames large enough to fill Qilin’s view. It was already dissipating, leaving only rough lines as most of the gathered energy shifted to Gao Yang’s right fist.
The hand was so radiant it seemed to be melting.
I still have time!
It’s not too late!
Qilin rushed to gather all of his energy.
But then Gao Yang stopped slowing his dying heart and accelerated the time of his right fist.
It seemed to Qilin that time had stopped. Yet the hit had already been made.
Three giant spheres of flames surged into existence above the Green Lotus Park like three small suns, spinning around and blending to create a larger sun.
Countless torrents of fierce flames rushed out in random directions like a blazing red tsunami, instantly filling the night sky.
A crimson purgatory had descended upon earth.
