Chapter 198 - No idea for the Chapter's title
Pov Dia,
I immediately reached the entrance of the Sitri domain, and the guards let me pass without hesitation because of my gaze.
Dia: "If Sera-chan isn't here yet, leave the door open — she won't wait."
How did Lord Sitri manage to get his daughter engaged to a man? Even if the political benefit was considerable, it's not like this house needs such an alliance.
As I entered the living room, I could feel the tension in the air. So-tan would surely want to lash out at her father for this foolish decision.
Dia: "I heard what happened, so I came to calm Sera-chan down and prevent her from destroying a house. But I would like to know — why did you engage your daughter to a man when she only likes girls? That should be public knowledge by now."
Sona: "Wait, Dia-neesama, how did you know?"
Lady Sitri: "You don't exactly hide it — especially when you're around Dia."
So-tan's cheeks turned purple, and she fell silent. The potential fiancé was Zephyrdor Glasya-Labolas, a cousin of Falbium.
Sona: "So what I can do as Dia-neesama is beat him?"
Dia: "You could — but first, you'd need to say that you'll only accept someone stronger than you, or that you already have a fiancée. The problem is, that would attract dozens of Devils — some even stronger than you — and I can guarantee it would turn into a bloodbath. It's better to rely on your strengths: knowledge and intelligence."
Lady Sitri: "So... you want her to challenge someone intellectually, and only the person who beats her can marry her?"
Sona: "That would be perfect — because almost no one can beat me at chess."
Her determination returned, and she was ready to fight.
Dia: "That's not exactly what I had in mind — you can always have a moment of weakness, or your strategy might not work. So instead of a single challenge, the suitor will have to win two out of three."
It's very simple: the three trials will be logic, memory, and intellectual games. If So-tan wins two matches, the suitor will never be allowed to marry her. But if he wins, the engagement will proceed.
The only problem is if So-tan loses — though that's unlikely. And knowing her, even if she likes girls, she wouldn't refuse to marry someone smarter than herself.
After long and intense negotiations, it was decided that the three games would be chess, sudoku, and shogi.
That's when Sera-chan stormed in, furious, ready to go after her father — so I stopped her and held her back.
Sera: "Don't get in my way, Dia-chan! Let me teach this old goat how to treat So-tan! She's not an object, and I categorically refuse to let her be engaged to Zephyrdor!"
It was very unsettling to be on the receiving end of Sera-chan's anger, especially with the way she spoke to me — but I had to clear things up before she ended up murdering her father.
After pulling her aside and explaining the situation, she still wanted extra reassurance. So I promised that every future suitor would undergo a thorough background check to uncover any crimes they might have committed.
It seems likely that many candidates will be eliminated, and very few will dare to challenge So-tan — which means the original plan of keeping her single is working perfectly.
