Chapter 152: 126

Yanhua is not a decent woman; she was involved with several men in her past life, and now that she’s found a good one this time, Lan Tian actually thought she would live honestly for the rest of her life. In the end, she still hasn’t changed her ways.

"How come you’re not surprised at all!" Chunhua curiously looked at Lan Tian.

Beside them, a small stove was burning, boiling water. Lan Tian took out the Spiritual Tea, brewed a cup for herself, and casually prepared one for Chunhua too. Seeing that Chunhua hadn’t finished her peach, she placed the tea cup on the tea table and leisurely took a sip.

"What’s there to be surprised about? When we were kids, your sister Chuntao told me that Yanhua wasn’t as kind as she appeared. Just look at how she dared to defy Fourth Grandpa’s words and study medicine with my uncle; you could tell she was formidable. I just didn’t expect her to do something like this," Lan Tian sighed, so Chunhua wouldn’t keep thinking she was abnormal.

"Her in-laws aren’t any better, bringing people back, blabbering everywhere, making sure there’s no one in the village who wouldn’t know. They used to be so jealous when she married someone from the county town. Who knows how they mocked her behind her back. I heard your aunt hid at home and cried for days, too afraid to meet people. Later, she fell ill, and it was me who treated her."

Yanhua’s mother must be heartbroken, having placed all her hopes on Yanhua. When Yanhua got married, her mother was as proud as a peacock, showing off everywhere in the village. She didn’t get to enjoy the good fortune for long before such a scandal occurred.

Lan Tian couldn’t care less about Yanhua’s business; that woman couldn’t stay in the village anyway and was bound to leave sooner or later.

"It’s not our place to care about her affairs. My uncle has agreed to let you out."

Speaking of this, Chunhua was infuriated.

"How can a person change like that? She’s become someone I don’t even recognize. After staying in the county town for a few years, she acts as if she’s above everyone else, looking down on people with half-closed eyes, as if she looks down on us country folks like she isn’t one of them." Chunhua grew more and more agitated as she spoke.

"You know what? She ran to your house, begging Master to find her another job. I don’t know how she found out your grandpa was in Shanghai, acting like she was someone important, and knew you were in Shanghai too. She knelt in the yard begging Master to find her a job in Shanghai, preferably in a big hospital, for her to snag a doctor. Can you believe the nerve of her? With her half-baked skills, she’s not even qualified to be a nurse, and yet she wants to be a doctor. Why didn’t she just go for a hospital director while she was at it?"

Lan Tian’s expression wasn’t great either; this was clearly an attempt to swindle her uncle, having tasted some sweet fruits and not wanting to let go.

"What did my uncle say?"

Not sure what she thought of, Chunhua chuckled.

"Master ignored her. Mistress sent her packing. When she landed a man from the county town, she came prancing to your house, boasting, even said that Master’s medical skills were poor. Mistress has always remembered that! She tried to stick around in the yard, but Mistress chased her off with a broom several times. She didn’t dare to enter the yard anymore and just loitered outside."

Lan Tian laughed as well; she could believe her aunt was capable of doing that.

She gave a thumbs-up in praise, "My aunt is indeed formidable."

"Do you know why I came out? Yanhua shamelessly insisted on being Master’s errand girl, complaining that Master was biased. How come, being disciples taught by the same Master, I could take over his practice in the village while she couldn’t? Since Master wouldn’t find her a job, she was determined to practice medicine in the village. She vexed me so much, and just then my brother sent a letter asking for my help, so that’s why I came out."

Lan Tian thought about it and guessed why Mo Junhua had asked Chunhua to come.

Chunhua was the best candidate; she had medical skills and was a family member, so it made perfect sense for her to care for Zhao Li in the guise of a nurse. A man and a woman alone together daily wouldn’t raise suspicions – a patient and a nurse, it’s only natural. Mo Junhua just needed to hint that this affair was related to her and couldn’t be spread; Chunhua would keep it under wraps.

Mo Junhua was planning ahead well.

"What about Shitou, Tie Jun, and Black Dog? Have they got engaged yet?"

"Engaged? The village is in an uproar. Shitou, Tie Jun, and Black Dog sneaked out to sign up for the military without telling their families. It was the village chief who brought back their physical exam reports. The chief thought their elders had agreed and went to praise their sense of awareness, but it turned into a mess when their parents found out. Now they’re being chased around the village for a beating every day."

Lan Tian stared in disbelief, her eyes wide with surprise, looking at Chunhua.

"Are you saying, Shitou, Tie Jun, Black Dog, they joined the military?"

"Yeah." Chunhua nodded.

"Why?" Lan Tian couldn’t understand. The friends had talked about becoming wealthy, so why the sudden change?

"Who knows what got into them." Chunhua rolled her eyes at Lan Tian. If she had grown up playing with them and didn’t know, how was she supposed to know?

"There’s even more surprising news. The village chief’s daughter, Taohua, also went for a physical exam to join the military. Bet you didn’t see that coming. I heard that at first, the chief was very against it, but after Taohua said something to him, he agreed. I don’t know the results of the physical exam; I had already left by then. If she passed, you might see them in the military one day."

Lan Tian nodded and smiled, "Well, that’s nice. I can play with Shitou, Tie Jun, and the others again."

Lan Tian didn’t say that even if Shitou and the others joined the military, it wasn’t certain they’d come to Mo Junhua’s place. With so many military units in Dragon Country, who knows where they’d end up? Even if they were in the same area, the chances of them being together were slim.

If they were indeed in the same military area, they would eventually meet. Her friends were not the type to suffer losses, so Lan Tian wasn’t worried about them getting shortchanged in the military. What she was worried about were the three elders back home.

"How are my grandma and the others? Is everything okay at home?" freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"Grandma Sun is very healthy, looks like she’s in her fifties or sixties, healthier than the other elders in the village, almost walking with a breeze. You don’t have to worry about Master and Mistress, they’re doing great. The villagers say Mistress seems to have gotten younger, and she tells people it’s because of your good care. They’re all fine, just missing you."

Lan Tian missed them too, every day, and it seemed that she had to hurry up and make some money to buy a property in Shanghai so that the family could be together again.
