Chapter 163: 136

The way the two met was quite ordinary. There was this one time Huanhuan’s family car didn’t come to pick her up from school, so she rode back on a classmate’s bicycle. Upon arriving at the door, she encountered Lan Tian entering the Mo Mansion. Out of curiosity, she mentioned it at home, and the elders told her to go to school with Lan Tian every day thereafter.

That’s how the two of them became acquainted, and from then on, Huanhuan stuck to Lan Tian like glue.

"Hey? Why haven’t I seen your brother today?" Huanhuan, who had caught up, instinctively looked outside, but didn’t see Mo Junhua’s figure, and the disappointment in her eyes flickered and disappeared.

Previously, it had been agreed at home that they would say that Mo Junhua was Lan Tian’s brother, who came to pick up Lan Tian every week. Huanhuan saw this and envied Lan Tian for having such a good brother, unlike her own brother who always found her bothersome to follow.

"Today is the end of the exams and the start of the winter break. Your brother didn’t come to pick you up. Is there something happening at the military base?"

In the prime of her teens, when romantic feelings just start to blossom, Huanhuan had unknowingly begun to think about him, wondering what he was doing before she went to sleep, and if he might also be thinking of her as she thought of him.

The happiest time for her was every Saturday when she could see Mo Junhua again. In the vast crowd, she could spot him at a glance, standing tall and straight. But since last week, Mo Junhua didn’t come to pick up Lan Tian from school, and Huanhuan had tried to slyly probe for information from Lan Tian, but Lan Tian always ignored her.

"You really care about his affairs?" Lan Tian looked at her with a cool gaze, as though her deep black pupils could see right through Huanhuan’s thoughts.

Feeling guilty, Huanhuan shook her head in denial, "No, I just noticed that he didn’t come last week, and he hasn’t come this week either, maybe he has gotten a girlfriend and has forgotten his sister."

"Perhaps that’s possible!" Lan Tian said, considering Zhou Yuwei was still in the military.

Huanhuan’s smile became a bit stiff, and she lowered her head, falling silent, following behind Lan Tian slowly. After passing the school intersection, Lan Tian stopped, and Huanhuan stopped as well.

"Where are you going?" Lan Tian asked her.

"Going home!" Huanhuan replied as if it were the most natural thing.

"Then let’s part ways here. I have something else to do and won’t be going home. I’m leaving, goodbye!" With those words, Lan Tian quickly walked away, leaving Huanhuan behind, staring dumbly at her retreating figure.

Lan Tian hadn’t walked far before she realized a car had been following her from the school’s gate. A cold glint flashed in her eyes, and after a sweep with Divine Sense, she recognized the person in the car and was taken aback.

Why was he following her? Was he here to avenge Zhou Yuwei?

That seemed unlikely. Chu Yang didn’t seem to like Zhou Yuwei as much as he pretended, otherwise, he wouldn’t have found another woman after marrying Zhou Yuwei.

Lifting her gaze, she spotted a narrow alley up ahead, about one meter wide which a car couldn’t enter. Upon reaching the entrance, Lan Tian turned into it, found a secluded corner, and casted a concealing spell, waiting quietly for someone to arrive.

Seeing Lan Tian turn into the alley, Chu Yang drove up, parked by the entrance, got out of the car, and chased after her into the alley.

In winter, the alley was deserted, with only a few pedestrians hurrying by, none of them Lan Tian, and there was nothing on the walls to hide behind. Moreover, the other end of the alley was another exit, leading out onto the street.

Chu Yang glanced at the other exit and pursued, having gone to great lengths to detain Mo Junhua by getting him involved in a special mission, hence Mo Junhua was no longer at the base and didn’t come to pick up Lan Tian. Seizing the chance, Chu Yang came for an unexpected encounter with Lan Tian.

With the icy snow and bitter cold, everyone would rather stay home and keep warm. There weren’t many pedestrians in the alley, and one could easily see the exit on the other side.

Standing at the entrance of the alley, Chu Yang scanned the pedestrians outside, searching for Lan Tian’s figure. He looked left and right, but she was nowhere to be seen. Cursing under his breath, he turned back, puzzled at how the girl could run so fast—he had just parked his car when she disappeared.

Lan Tian, hidden in the shadows, saw Chu Yang looking around at the entrance of the alley as if searching for someone and knew then that he was indeed looking for her. Watching Chu Yang turn back and walk past her spot, and when they were about five steps apart, Lan Tian stepped out.

"Are you looking for me?"

Chu Yang, walking back, suddenly heard Lan Tian’s voice from behind, paused, and then swiftly turned around to see the girl he had been longing for, standing amongst the snowflakes, only her eyes visible, sparkling and bright as stars.

She didn’t know how long she had stood in the snow, a layer of snowflakes draped over her, the coldness in her eyes, the proud demeanor melted into the icy world as if an Ice and Snow Immortal had descended upon the mortal realm. Chu Yang was momentarily stunned, thinking it was an illusion.

Lan Tian slightly frowned, seeing Chu Yang staring blankly at her, checked over her shoulder to see if there was something behind her, but seeing nothing, she turned and walked away.

Seeing the Ice and Snow Immortal drift away, Chu Yang came back to his senses and hurried after her.

"Lan Tian."

Lan Tian stopped and looked back at him, silent, then turned away again as she continued walking.

Chu Yang hesitated, watching her walk away, then caught up from behind and walked alongside her.

"Lan Tian..."

"I don’t know you!" Lan Tian gave him a cold glance. The hidden message in her words was clear—don’t act so familiar, they didn’t know each other, okay!

Chu Yang choked up, the phrase ’What a coincidence, I didn’t expect to see you here’ got stuck in his throat. On reflection, they truly didn’t know each other; his sudden approach to strike up a conversation with the girl was indeed forward, and the fact she didn’t scold him was already sparing his face.

Chu Yang laughed it off, truly a kind and thoughtful girl.

"We have met before, that time in the hospital, in the corridor with Nurse Zhou." Knowing full well Lan Tian disliked Zhou Yuwei, Chu Yang reluctantly brought up Zhou Yuwei’s name because without her, he had no reason to know Lan Tian.

Lan Tian turned her head towards him, her brow slightly furrowed, as if trying to recall the scene.

Chu Yang flashed a smile and gestured toward his woolen coat. "Back then, I was wearing a white coat, so there was a difference."

After looking for a moment, Lan Tian seemed to remember such a person, uttered an ’Oh’, and stepped forward to walk away, wondering what Chu Yang’s real purpose was.

"I was sending a friend home, about to return to the hospital when I saw someone on the road with a back similar to yours, so I came down to check, but that person turned into an alley, and I thought I had mistaken."

Lan Tian gave Chu Yang a look that was half-mocking, half-smiling. If she didn’t know that Chu Yang had been following her from the school gate, with the sincerity on his face, she would have believed he truly had just run into her. Such lying and concealment, ulterior motives abounded.

"I didn’t see you when I came in just now, where were you?" Chu Yang asked curiously, there were no hiding spots in the alley, but suddenly Lan Tian appeared from behind.

"When are you going back to the hospital?" asked Lan Tian abruptly.

"I’m about to leave, the military base and the hospital are in the same direction; it’s on the way to give you a ride," said Chu Yang casually, glancing at Lan Tian as if unintentionally, "How come I didn’t see Camp Commander Mo, didn’t he come to pick you up?"

Lan Tian shook her head, "He has work at the base."

Chu Yang looked at Lan Tian and spoke again, "Now, in the military, they say that Camp Commander Mo is very fond of his wife, coming to Shanghai every week to pick you up, those Military Wives would praise him, saying he’s a good man, the girl who marries him has cultivated good fortune. For a while, I was downhearted, feeling that I fell far short of Camp Commander Mo. It’s only after seeing you today that I realized, he’s not as good as they say in the military."

Hearing this, Lan Tian curled the corner of her lips slightly, was this meant to be an eye-opener for Mo Junhua? Why?
