The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s-Chapter 166 - 139
Chapter 166: Chapter 139
Lan Tian’s eyes flashed with schadenfreude, all men are sentimental, Zhou Yuwei’s plan this time is perfect, sharing both the sweet and the bitter, enduring hardships together.
Whether from a moral or a smaller virtue standpoint, Zhou Yuwei’s actions, seen through others’ eyes, portrayed her as a woman of deep feeling and loyalty, a soldier taking calculated risks, and Zhou Yuwei played this move very well.
Such an extraordinary woman, Mo Junhua, can you still withstand Zhou Yuwei this time?
Lan Tian waited with bated breath.
After staying in the room for two hours and seeing that the child’s condition had stabilized, Lan Tian bid farewell to Tian Xianghua and his wife, "Sister-in-law, the child is fine now, just do as I instructed and I’ll be on my way."
"Then take it slow, I won’t see you out." As Lan Tian was leaving, Tian Chunhua went to the study to call the First Battalion Commander, and the couple stood at the doorway to watch Lan Tian leave.
Zhao Li’s legs had recovered after half a year of rest, and now he could walk and move around. Chunhua had returned to Mo Village a month ago, and the military deployed another nurse to take care of him.
With Chunhua not around, Lan Tian didn’t need to go to the clinic and directly returned to Mo Village. No need to return to his own place; he carried everything he needed in his Sleeve Universe. At the military base, he ran into Chu Yang.
Persistent nuisance!
Lan Tian felt he should have checked the almanac before going out today.
Chu Yang came to the military base to check on Zhao Li, and unexpectedly saw Lan Tian. The surprise in his eyes flashed momentarily. Approaching Lan Tian, he said, "Sister-in-law, are you heading back to Shanghai? It takes a few hours to reach the foot of the mountain to catch a ride, may I offer you a lift?"
"Thank you for your kindness, but I have arranged to meet someone ahead, no need to trouble you. You have important matters, go attend to them!" Lan Tian nodded in acknowledgment and walked out of the military gate, quickly disappearing into the snowy landscape.
Chu Yang watched Lan Tian’s receding figure thoughtfully, and as he was about to lose sight of Lan Tian, he spoke to the gate guard, went into the guardroom to borrow the phone, called the clinic, instructed the nurse briefly, hung up, and drove chasing after Lan Tian. He chased all the way to the foot of the mountain but didn’t see Lan Tian.
After leaving the military gate, Lan Tian used the Wind Control Skill to descend the mountain along a small path, didn’t take the train or a car, but relied on his legs to return to Mo Village, arriving at the village entrance by midnight.
Nobody at home knew Lan Tian had returned, except for Little Tao in the backyard. As soon as Lan Tian reached the village entrance, Little Tao knew and jubilantly shouted in Lan Tian’s Sea of Consciousness, "Master, you’re finally back, I missed you so much."
After being away from Mo Village for half a year, his initial resentment towards Little Tao had slowly dissipated, especially since Little Tao had watched over the house, on this point alone, Lan Tian no longer held any grudges, so he smiled.
"I’ve been away from home for half a year, has everything been alright at home?"
"Nothing, with me watching, you can rest assured, Master!" Little Tao replied with arrogant pride, then realizing who it was speaking to, gradually lowered its tone.
Lan Tian didn’t feel any particular way, Little Tao’s arrogance surely had its credentials, having once tricked Lan Tian, there should be nobody foolish enough to come looking for trouble in the village.
"Well done!"
Receiving Lan Tian’s praise, Little Tao felt its efforts over the past half-year were worthwhile, its tone proud, "Where, it’s what I should do."
Lan Tian didn’t go to Mo Junhua’s family but instead returned to Grandma Sun’s house, without alerting anyone, sneaked back to her room.
Lan Tian’s room was still as she left it, tidy and clean, with no odors, apparently Grandma Sun and others had been cleaning frequently.
Lan Tian went to the nearby wardrobe, opened it to find it filled with clothes and blankets, all newly made. She took out two new blankets, one to spread and one to cover herself, pinched a Cleaning Technique before bedtime, and then snuggled into the blankets for a deep sleep.
Lan Tian slept soundly, only getting out of bed when she smelled the aroma of food, her hair uncombed, she threw on an overcoat to go wash up, running into Zhao Li coming out from the backyard picking vegetables.
"Aunt." Then she proceeded to brush her teeth.
The fact that Lan Tian was coming back was not mentioned to the family in advance; the last letter didn’t hint at it, Grandma Sun, Zhao Li, and the others thought Lan Tian was spending the Spring Festival with Mo Junhua in the military, they were prepared for that.
Who knew that after not seeing Lan Tian for half a year, she would suddenly appear at home, Zhao Li was stunned, dumbly watching Lan Tian go under the camphor tree to brush her teeth with the icy water from the barrel.
Icy water?
Zhao Li, shivering, ran over, snatched the cup from Lan Tian’s hand, threw it aside, pointing at Lan Tian but unable to speak for a moment, then pulled her towards the house, shouting toward the kitchen, "Aunt, Aunt, come out quickly."
Lan Tian rolled her eyes, well, looks like no peace this morning.
Grandma Sun, thinking something had happened, came out from the kitchen, also stunned to see Lan Tian in the hall, her gaze shifting between the two before settling on Lan Tian, "Girl."
"Grandma, I’m back." Lan Tian went over to hug Grandma Sun, cooing affectionately, "I missed you all so much."
"When did you get back?" Seeing Lan Tian’s clothes, Zhao Li’s eyes started twitching again, "Stop acting cutesy with your grandma, how old are you now? Hurry back to your room, get dressed, and come out. I have something to ask you."
Lan Tian changed clothes and came out, and Mo Yuanle, who had returned from the fields, was also back. He sat in the hall with Grandma Sun and Zhao Li waiting for her.
Looking at this setup, were they going to have a tribunal?
"When did you get back? We had no idea," Zhao Li started.
"I came back late last night, you all were asleep. I didn’t want to wake you up, so I didn’t call out and just went to sleep in my room," Lan Tian replied obediently.
Zhao Li peeked into Lan Tian’s room, "And where is Hua Zi?"
Grandma Sun and Mo Yuanle also looked towards Lan Tian’s room and then expectantly at Lan Tian.
Lan Tian’s eyes twitched. What did it mean? Were they all peering into her room, as if she could be hiding Junhua there?
"He didn’t come back. I heard the army has assigned him a task. I was in Shanghai at the time and don’t know the details. When I went back to the base, he had already left, and there are rules in the military that forbid revealing any information to family members, otherwise, it would be seen as violating military regulations and he could be imprisoned."
Zhao Li’s next question was blocked by the mention of imprisonment.
Grandma Sun stroked Lan Tian’s head, "How come you’ve lost so much weight? Didn’t you eat properly outside?"
Lan Tian pretended to be shy and smiled, "Grandma, I’ve grown up, gotten taller too, so I might look thinner, but I am not thin at all. You haven’t seen the girls in the city; their waists are as thick as auntie’s arms, I’m scared they might break their waists walking around."
Lan Tian gestured at her waist and compared it with Zhao Li’s arms, twisting her hips around the room, causing Grandma Sun and the others to burst into laughter, even bringing Zhao Li to tears.
"At school, are you getting along well with your classmates? Is the pressure high? Are the teachers nice?" Grandma Sun continued, "Don’t compare yourself to them, as long as you can manage, don’t put too much pressure on yourself!"
Lan Tian went over and hugged Grandma Sun, leaning her head on her shoulder, smiling sweetly, "Grandma, I know, don’t worry. My classmates are nice, and so are the teachers. We all get along really well."
Suddenly sniffing her nose, she looked at Zhao Li, "Aunt, I think I smell something burning."
Zhao Li startled and suddenly ran towards the kitchen, shouting, "My rice!"
The family was chatting so happily that they forgot about the rice cooking in the kitchen.
"What would you like to eat? Grandma will make it for you." Grandma Sun patted Lan Tian’s head, stood up, and headed for the kitchen. The girl was back; she had to make some good dishes to nourish her.
"As long as it’s made by Grandma, I like it all." Lan Tian followed her, bouncing along, "I’ll help you out."
Grandma Sun laughed, her eyes squinting into lines, waving her away, "Don’t make a mess, go brush your teeth and wash your face, we’ll eat soon."
After brushing her teeth, Lan Tian returned to the hall and saw Mo Yuanle coming out of the kitchen with hot water. Seeing Lan Tian, he handed the washbasin to her. "Uncle," Lan Tian, thick-skinned, laughed cheekily and naturally took the washbasin to wash up outside on the porch.
While having breakfast, the family chatted as they ate. Lan Tian shared some amusing incidents she saw in Shanghai with Grandma Sun and others. Grandma Sun asked about Mr. Mo, lamenting, "The girl is back, and your Great Grandpa is spending the New Year alone over there; it’s quite lonely."
Having a bowl of soup, Lan Tian then said, "Don’t worry about Great Grandpa, his apprentice took him to Beijing for the New Year. With so many disciples and grand-disciples, how could it be lonely?"
Lan Tian didn’t tell the complete truth to Grandma Sun and others; that Mr. Mo went to Beijing to treat someone and hadn’t come back, to spare them the worry.
Sometimes, Lan Tian also wondered, who was that person? Considering Mr. Mo’s status as a National Doctor, to keep him in Beijing without leaving, and no one else seeking him out, how could Mr. Mo not scream and cry wanting to return?
It was totally unlike his character.
Suddenly, her leg under the table was kicked. Lan Tian looked up from her bowl to see Zhao Li gesturing with her eyes for her to look at Mo Yuanle. Not understanding why, as she slowly turned her head towards Mo Yuanle, she saw his expression was colder and sterner than before and then she suddenly realized.
"Before the winter vacation, Great Grandpa’s disciple Wu Zongyu took him to Beijing," Lan Tian said, watching Mo Yuanle’s face and, seeing his expression soften, suggested, "How about next year, we invite Great Grandpa to celebrate the New Year with us, how does that sound?"
Zhao Li gave Lan Tian a thumbs up secretly, admiring her smooth handling of the situation, while adding, "Wouldn’t that be troublesome? Your Great Grandpa is a renowned doctor, and our home..." she looked around, "...might be too small, would he be uncomfortable?"
"No, not at all," Lan Tian shook her head, "They say golden and silver nests don’t compare to one’s own doghouse. Great Grandpa is a true countryman; he would never disdain his own home. It’s settled then, next year we’ll invite Great Grandpa to our home for New Year. Uncle, you have no objections, right?"
Lan Tian pretended to be serious, asking for his opinion while secretly laughing to herself; oh, her uncle could really be awkward.
Mo Yuanle showed a rare embarrassed look, and Grandma Sun along with Zhao Li didn’t spare him, both bursting into laughter, Zhao Li even holding her stomach exaggeratingly, shouting "ow, ow." Lan Tian, being younger, dared not laugh out loud, but she bowed her head eating, her shoulders shaking, not even minding if she got choked by the food.
