The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s-Chapter 175 - 145
Chapter 175: Chapter 145
"No need, I just want this piece."
Lan Tian shook her head and declined his kind offer. She felt it would be unfair to take this piece; after all, how could a mutated tea tree compare with a Space Stone? It’s like comparing the light of a firefly to the bright moon—there’s simply no comparison!
The items brought by Mr. Wei and Mr. Ma didn’t catch Lan Tian’s eye. However, in Old Sir Zhang’s box, there was a piece of rare metal material which Lan Tian took. She could use that material to make a sword, as she was still missing a flying sword.
Mr. Wei and Mr. Ma were anxious as the young lady didn’t fancy the items they brought. They were contemplating how to talk to Lan Tian, wondering if they could bring another batch of items tomorrow to exchange.
They all sat back in their chairs to drink tea. Mr. Wei said, "Girl, let’s discuss this. We can either bring a new batch tomorrow for you to look at, or if you’re looking for any specific kind of metal, just let us know. We have been in Shanghai for decades and know many people, so it’s relatively easy for us to find things."
The old men also noticed that Lan Tian needed a particular type of metal material.
"No need," Lan Tian shook her head, "I’m not in a hurry for other materials. I already have all the materials I need for the Storage Basin, and I plan to return to Wuhua Mountain soon to spend time Artifact Refining."
The expressions on Mr. Wei’s and Mr. Ma’s faces were somewhat nuanced as they reluctantly gazed at the tea tree. Feeling a sense of indescribable regret, they knew that since the item was in the young lady’s hands, it was up to her to decide whether or not to exchange.
Having known each other for decades, Mr. Mo was well aware of their reluctance. Just as he was about to speak on their behalf, Lan Tian suddenly said, "Although I didn’t take a fancy to the items you brought, you can give me money. You know the value of the tea tree, so give me a fair amount!"
After all, rarity commands a price, and Lan Tian didn’t want her tea trees to be valued like common cabbages, available to anyone who wanted one.
Upon hearing this, Mr. Wei and Mr. Ma smiled broadly, their old faces blooming with joy, "Very well, girl, rest assured, we definitely won’t let you suffer a loss."
Money was the last thing the old men lacked. With everyone getting what they wanted, they all smiled broadly and immediately notified their staff to go and retrieve money.
The meeting ended with everyone happy. Mr. Wei and his group left with the tea trees satisfied, while Lan Tian played with the stone, smiling with curved eyes. The price the old men offered was reasonable—in fact, it exceeded Lan Tian’s expectations. The two pots of tea trees sold for an exorbitant price, one hundred fifty thousand each, and that was with a discount given in consideration of Mr. Mo’s presence.
She had budgeted a maximum of twenty to thirty thousand per pot, and when it was time to collect the money, it left her heart pounding.
"Girl, what do you need so much money for?" Mr. Mo couldn’t fathom her thoughts.
"I spotted a courtyard in the outskirts that I want to buy, and I haven’t had the money until now. Now, I can afford it." As Lan Tian spoke, she didn’t even lift her head from the bundles of money on the table, "I plan to move grandma and the others over to live together."
Mr. Mo was initially taken aback, then he burst into hearty laughter. "That’s wonderful! Why didn’t you tell me? Your grandpa here has money."
Lan Tian smiled. Even though Mr. Mo was wealthy, there was still a layer between their familial bonds, and living here always felt like depending on others, which wasn’t as comfortable as living in her own house.
"Let’s do this, tomorrow I’ll go with you to check out the place." Mr. Mo was worried Lan Tian might get cheated and wanted to see the place first.
"Okay," Lan Tian agreed, as she was indeed planning to buy it tomorrow.
Old Sir Ma was preparing to go out, and Lin Guohao specially took the afternoon off to come back. After lunch, he drove the two of them, following Lan Tian’s instructions, towards the outskirts of town.
Upon reaching the suburbs, the group first visited the homeowner, aware that Lan Tian was specifically coming to buy the house. The host warmly welcomed them, and upon seeing the car parked outside the courtyard, their smile became even more enthusiastic.
"...I must tell you, this location in the area is the best. There’s a courtyard in front, a bamboo forest and a fruit orchard in the back, plus fields nearby. It’s not far from the main road. The house has been in my family for decades; it’s hard to part with. If it weren’t because my son is coming back to take us old folks with him, I’d never dream of selling."
The elderly homeowner spoke of his son with great pride, showing no signs of reluctance.
Lan Tian chose this place for its favorable geographical surroundings—there are mountains, water, fields, yet it’s not isolated. There would be fields and land; Grandma Sun and the others wouldn’t feel stifled. There’s a mountain in the back, convenient for Mo Yuanle to gather herbs, and it’s also convenient for going out. A few minutes’ walk and one can take a bus into the city, which would also be convenient for her schooling later on.
It took just over ten minutes to get there from the homeowner’s place. Mr. Mo toured the vicinity, aided by both Lan Tian and Lin Guofu. There was thin ice in less frequented areas which was slippery; a fall at Mr. Mo’s advanced age could be disastrous.
After walking around, Mr. Mo felt fairly satisfied, but the old house was severely damaged. Usual dwellers weren’t there, and the house hadn’t been maintained. From outside the courtyard, one could see the side of the mud wall cracked and seemingly on the verge of collapsing, which could probably be destroyed by the next heavy rain.
"All in all, it’s not bad, just that the house is a bit old," remarked Mr. Mo.
The elderly lady looked embarrassed as the main reason the old house hadn’t sold was exactly this. City dwellers with money, who would buy a house outside the city? Everyone struggled to squeeze into the city. For someone from the countryside, having spent a significant sum to buy it, and with no residence, they would have to spend another large sum to repair—it’s not like they had that much spare cash!
It wasn’t just the house that the elderly lady wanted to sell, but also the orchards, bamboo forests, and nearby fields—all amounting to a large sum of money.
With few people coming to see the house, and even fewer willing to buy, the elderly lady hadn’t taken the last young girl who came seriously. With so much money involved, how could a young girl be the decision-maker?
Unexpectedly, they really came and brought family elders along. Missing this opportunity, there was no telling when the next buyer would appear. Her son urged her to come over soon, and with that, the elderly lady made her decision.
"Old sir, perhaps we can negotiate the price further."
The group then went to the elderly lady’s place and finally bought the property for 15,000 yuan, including the orchards, bamboo forests, fields, and so on. They immediately went by car to the Land Bureau to process the related formalities through the back door of Mr. Mo, transferring ownership of the house, farmland, and real estate all to Lan Tian’s name.
In the car, Lan Tian chatted casually with Mr. Mo.
"Grandpa, have you heard about my uncle taking on an apprentice?"
Mr. Mo nodded, having read about it in a letter from Mo Yuanle. "I heard that the girl is from the same village and has quite good aptitude."
"Chunhua has been learning from my uncle for several years and can almost practice medicine independently now. Now that I’ve bought a house in the suburbs and they move here after the snow melts, it wouldn’t do for her to stay in the village, overly constrained. Could you possibly arrange something for her at the hospital?"
Mr. Mo has taken only one disciple in his lifetime, Wu Zongyu’s father. Lan Tian hadn’t thought about asking Mr. Mo to take her as a disciple. Mr. Mo was elderly, and nurturing a disciple required selfless dedication—Lan Tian didn’t want him to undertake such strain, worrying it might worsen his already fragile health.
Her grand uncle was in Beijing, renowned and probably won’t take interest in Chunhua. Additionally, it seems he has already accepted a female disciple; geographically separated by mountains and rivers, it was hopeless to think about it, so she dropped the idea.
