The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s-Chapter 193 - 159
Chapter 193: Chapter 159
Lan Tian followed the direction of Tie Jun’s head and saw Jiang Xiaoshan looking like a resentful wife and instantly understood. He thought for a moment and called him over to introduce him to the others.
"He is Jiang Xiaoshan, a soldier under Mo Junhua. Jiang Xiaoshan, these three are my childhood friends, Shitou, Tie Jun, and Hei Gouzi."
So they are childhood friends. He was scared to death, thinking sister-in-law was up to something behind the battalion commander’s back, and he almost committed suicide to apologize.
Childhood friends, something seems off! It seems like that word isn’t used like that! But then again, maybe it can be used that way, he wasn’t sure since he hadn’t read many books. Since sister-in-law studied in Shanghai, she probably wasn’t wrong.
After the brief introductions, Lan Tian had no time to deal with them, and the four went to sit nearby and catch up. Cai Mingming glanced around at everyone and snorted coldly as she left. The few nurses at the door also left, and Jiang Xiaoshan sat by Mo Junhua’s bed, all ears to their conversation.
"Why are you guys at the hospital? Are you injured?" Lan Tian had a touch of concern in her eyes as her Divine Sense swept over them and saw they were unharmed, she smiled with relief.
"No, what are you thinking? It’s just that a comrade was hospitalized so we came to visit him." Shitou gave Lan Tian a white look, having not seen her in so long, he was not greeted with good expectations, "How about you? Where’s Mo Junhua?"
Lan Tian almost laughed at the question and looked at Jiang Xiaoshan sitting nearby. She held back her laughter to avoid being accused of taking pleasure in someone else’s misfortune, although that was indeed what she felt.
Lan Tian stood up and walked to Jiang Xiaoshan’s side, "He’s here."
Shitou and the others stood up and walked over. They saw the man lying on the bed, with a face slightly resembling the strong, mighty, and powerful man from their memories. His eyes were closed tight, his face calm, without the usual chilly oppressive look when he regarded others.
Shitou and the rest were stunned, looking at Lan Tian for a long while without words.
Lan Tian and the four found a secluded spot in the downstairs garden. Shitou, Tie Jun, and Hei Gouzi felt heavy-hearted, their thoughts unknown, and sat in silence for a while, the atmosphere somewhat somber. Lan Tian wasn’t much affected by Mo Junhua’s situation, but she was truly surprised to run into Shitou, Tie Jun, and Hei Gouzi.
The three exchanged glances, and then Shitou spoke up.
"How have you been these years?" Shitou turned his head away from Lan Tian when he spoke, feeling it was too obvious, so he simply looked down, kicking the turf with the tips of his shoes.
This was not his usual style at all. Shitou felt awkward to death and didn’t dare to look at Lan Tian.
Tie Jun and Hei Gouzi’s faces twitched as if wanting to slap him dead. What nonsense was this? They let him speak first not to waste time mumbling about womanly matters.
Tie Jun, never one to hold back, impatient as ever, blurted out.
"Mo Junhua is injured? How did he get hurt? And what’s with that woman just now? Whose man did you steal?" Tie Jun looked at Lan Tian, puzzled. With Lan Tian’s looks, she shouldn’t need to steal anyone’s man. Since childhood, countless boys from all the surrounding villages followed her, and if it weren’t for them blocking for her, Mo Junhua wouldn’t have had a chance later on.
Shitou’s awkwardness faded as he abruptly looked up at Lan Tian.
"An insignificant person, not worth your attention." Her buddies were still so caring. Lan Tian slightly curled her lips and pulled out a few fist-sized tomatoes from her bag, stuffing one into each of their hands and took one for herself to munch on.
The three men’s eyes twitched. Was this really the time to eat tomatoes? Lan Tian’s habit of eating anytime, anywhere still hadn’t changed, leaving the three speechless as they took a resentful bite.
"You won’t be able to hide it from us; we’ll find out anyway." Hei Gouzi glanced at Lan Tian and lightly dropped a comment.
Lan Tian held her forehead, her three pals were quite something: Shitou, the carefree chatterbox who wouldn’t stop talking; Tie Jun with a fiery temper who liked to solve problems with his fists; and Hei Gouzi, the brain among them who was cunning and mischievous, the one who came up with schemes behind the scenes.
"Really, I can’t hide anything from you," Lan Tian swallowed the tomato in her mouth. With their temperaments, once they learned the truth, regardless of military rules or not, they would raise hell, living up to the nickname Little Demon King.
"It’s really nothing serious, just a woman who has a thing for Mo Junhua trying her hardest to get rid of me. That nurse earlier is her good friend, who came to back her up," Lan Tian said in a tone as flat as if she was talking about today’s weather. Yet, inside, Shitou and the others were anything but calm.
"I’m going to teach them a lesson," declared Tie Jun, suddenly standing up, ready to confront that nurse.
What’s going on? Someone dared to bully Lan Tian and even tried to snatch her man away from her. If Mo Junhua was such a great catch, why hadn’t they noticed him earlier? Lan Tian has never tolerated such injustice from childhood to adulthood.
"Sit down." Lan Tian’s gaze was cold as she spoke in an even and calm tone to Tie Jun, a tone that brooked no refusal. But Tie Jun knew that if he actually went looking for trouble with that woman, Lan Tian would definitely be angry with him. After glancing at Black Dog and seeing him shake his head, Tie Jun reluctantly sat down.
There was something Black Dog couldn’t figure out: Lan Tian’s marriage was a military marriage, which was protected by law. Those who disrupted a military marriage would face severe punishment. Minor offenders could be sentenced to a few years in prison, while serious offenders could even face the death penalty.
The Military District Hospital belonged to the military hierarchy, so if that woman could enter the Military District Hospital, she must either be a nurse there or a military nurse. Regardless of their position, these nurses were considered female soldiers and enjoyed the same privileges as regular soldiers provided by the country. If an active-duty service member disrupted a military marriage, the crime was even more serious. Once they were convicted, they would spend their life in prison. That woman must be aware of that!
"You’re just going to swallow this insult? When did you change your temper? You were never soft on us from childhood to adulthood." Tie Jun turned away, not wanting to see Lan Tian, that girl who only knew how to rile them.
"We can’t just let this go," Shitou caught on, "If there’s a first time, there’ll be a second. If we don’t deal with that woman, I think Mo Junhua is also problematic. If his character was really upright, why would that woman not pester other men and just cling to him? In my opinion, Lan Tian, you might as well divorce Mo Junhua and find someone else."
Shitou was just saying this for the sake of saying it.
"What’s the military’s stance?" Black Dog hit the nail on the head, pointing out the most crucial aspect; with something like this happening, the military couldn’t possibly have no reaction.
Lan Tian glanced at the three men indifferently, "This matter is complicated, don’t interfere. If I find out that any of you three are meddling behind my back, we’ll cut ties for good."
The lads had just made a name for themselves in the military, and Lan Tian didn’t want to drag them into this and ruin their future. She even went so far as to threaten cutting ties. This matter wasn’t as simple as it appeared on the surface. To her, the three of them wouldn’t even count as cannon fodder; they’d be instantly taken down at their first appearance.
The three men were startled and stared at her blankly.
"I’m telling you not to meddle because I want to handle it myself. You all know my temperament; I can tolerate anything but injustice. I already have a plan for dealing with Zhou Yuwei’s issue. Don’t mess it up by interfering needlessly, got it?"
Shitou and Tie Jun both sighed with relief, much to their fright, they had thought Lan Tian had changed after getting married. It turned out she was still the same Little Demon King from Mo Village. They knew Lan Tian couldn’t possibly be that compliant; she had a backup plan.
Black Dog frowned in silence as he looked at Lan Tian.
At such a young age, she’s as cunning as an old man, and even more so now with all her schemes. She’s not as innocent as she was when she was younger! But, he liked that about her.
Lan Tian smiled, "It’s really okay. It won’t be long before you’ll see. For now, you just need to watch from the sidelines. No matter what happens in the future, you must not interfere. That would be the greatest help to me." A hint of coldness flickered in Lan Tian’s eyes.
What plan did Lan Tian have? It was just that she felt Zhou Yuwei’s patience had reached its limit. A woman driven mad and irrational could do anything.
"Are you sure we can’t help?" Tie Jun asked again, not giving up.
"No need, from childhood to adulthood, there’s nothing I’ve promised that I haven’t accomplished."
The three men thought about it and indeed, whatever Lan Tian promised, she would achieve. Black Dog wiped his face, resignedly saying, "Alright, we won’t meddle. But you have to promise us, don’t put yourself in danger."
"Don’t worry, I have it under control." Lan Tian nodded, considering this a consensus reached with her friends, "I have to tell you something, my whole family has moved to Shanghai. When you fellas are on leave, come and visit us. Here’s the address." She took out paper and pen from her bag, wrote down the address, tore it off, and handed it to Black Dog.
"What? Your whole family moved to Shanghai?" Shitou was surprised as he looked at Lan Tian, "Didn’t Fourth Grandpa and your family make a fuss?"
"What’s it to him?" As soon as she spoke, Lan Tian realized, "I haven’t told them, and the villagers don’t know either. Whether they know or not at this point, I couldn’t care less."
Lan Tian asked them about how things were going in the military. After Shitou and the others joined the army, they were assigned to the Steel Thorn platoon, where they had been training ever since. This time, the three were on leave to visit their former battalion commander who had trained them in the recruit company.
"...In that building over there, I just happened to see someone standing by the door who looked a bit like you," Shitou described, gesturing to the scene at that time, "Tie Jun and Black Dog didn’t believe it at first. Then we made a bet to come and see, the loser has to wash the winner’s socks for a month. Haha, we’ll be looking forward to our brothers’ care in the future."
Lan Tian covered her mouth and stifled a laugh.
After chatting for a while longer and noticing that it was getting late, Shitou and the others headed back to the military base, while Lan Tian went upstairs back to the ward.
