The Cursed Alpha Prince's Replacement Bride-Chapter 60: Something is Wrong with Amara
{Third Person}
Alexander’s brows slowly furrowed. Then again, Amara’s voice carried on.
"And why does he keep coming over to my side to interrogate me? Alexander Thornfield, don’t you have anything better to do?"
A vein ticked faintly at his temple.
On the other side, Mrs. Woods and Sonia looked like they were about to lose their lives. They were shocked with Amara suddenly waking up from sleep, and trying to bring death to their doors.
"Lady Amara, please..." Mrs. Woods tried, her voice low and urgent as she sat beside her on the bed. "You must rest now."
Sonia stood nearby, wringing her hands, completely panicked. "Please, Miss, you have to stop talking..."
But Amara wasn’t listening. Not even a little. She waved her hand dismissively. "No, no, I’m not done..."
Mrs. Woods nearly wept.
—
Back in his chamber, Alexander exhaled sharply then scoffed. "This woman is really trying her luck with me this night."
He rose to his feet. Without hesitation, he left his room with steady steps and determined expression.
Jasper felt his movement and stepped in, straightened immediately and followed after him.
However, once they reached the connecting door and stepped over to the other side, Jasper stopped in the living room, knowing better than to go any further.
The servants stationed there froze as soon as they saw Alexander step onto their side of the residence. Fear seized them instantly. None of them dared to speak.
Alexander didn’t spare them a glance. He walked straight past them and headed directly for Amara’s bedroom, guided only by the sound of her voice.
Then, he pushed the door open and stepped in. The room fell into immediate tension.
Mrs. Woods and Sonia shot to their feet. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Your Highness—" Mrs. Woods bowed deeply, her voice shaking.
Sonia didn’t even trust her legs. She bowed so quickly she almost stumbled.
Alexander didn’t look at them as his gaze went straight to the source.
Amara sat on the bed, still talking, completely unaware of the storm that had just entered the room.
"Why," Alexander said coldly, "has she not been made to shut her mouth?"
Mrs. Woods flinched. "Your Highness, I—" she began, bowing even lower. "No matter how we try to comfort and soothe her, she does not comply—"
Alexander’s eyes sharpened. "Soothe?" he repeated, his tone turning colder. "Is she a child that requires soothing?"
Mrs. Woods lowered her head further, unable to respond.
"Or is she simply choosing to cause chaos in my residence in the middle of the night?" he continued, his voice controlled but edged. "Disturbing everyone’s rest?"
A long silence, then Amara turned her head, and her gaze landed on him. She blinked slowly.
"...Am I dreaming?" she asked, her voice soft with confusion.
Mrs. Woods felt her heart stop. ’This is truly the end...’
Before anyone could react further, a small ginger blur darted out from the corner of the room. The cat ran straight to Alexander’s feet, letting out a soft meow.
Alexander frowned as he looked down at it. Then, without acknowledging it further, he shifted his gaze back to Mrs. Woods.
"Prepare sobering soup and feed it to her immediately," he ordered flatly.
"Yes, Your Highness," Mrs. Woods answered without delay.
Alexander didn’t wait. He turned on his heel and walked out of the room just as quickly as he had entered.
Ginger followed him.
Back in the living area, Jasper looked up just in time to see him return with the cat trailing closely behind him. His brows lifted slightly.
But before the cat could get any closer, Jasper bent down and picked it up.
"...Your owner has already angered His Highness," he muttered under his breath. "Are you here to finish the job?"
Ginger meowed innocently.
Jasper sighed and kept her, quickly rushing to catch up with Alexander who had already headed for the connecting door.
—
Not long after, the sobering soup was prepared.
Mrs. Woods and Sonia worked together to get Amara to drink it, despite her weak protests and wandering attention.
"Just a little more, Lady Amara..."
"Please..."
Eventually, it worked.
The effects were gradual, but certain. Within ten minutes, Amara’s voice faded. Her movements slowed, and finally, she fell asleep.
The room, once filled with restless noise, sank into silence.
—
Back on his side, Alexander stood by the window for a moment, the quiet finally settling in.
"Finally some peace," he grumbled to himself.
And for the rest of the night, the residence remained still.
---
The following afternoon settled into a quiet rhythm within the Alpha Prince’s residence.
Sunlight filtered softly through the tall windows, casting a calm glow over the dining area where Alexander sat, finishing his lunch with unhurried movements.
Across the room, Ginger had claimed a small corner for herself, quietly occupied with her own meal, her tail flicking lazily now and then.
The peace didn’t last long.
A few minutes later, Jasper entered the room. He didn’t interrupt right away, waiting until Alexander put his cutlery down before speaking.
"Your Highness, Mrs. Woods requests your attention," he said with a slight bow.
Alexander glanced up with a neutral expression.
"She reports that Lady Amara has not woken up since last night," Jasper continued. "It appears the medicinal soup may have been too strong for her."
Alexander’s brows drew together slightly. After a brief pause, he simply said, "Send for a physician."
Jasper nodded. "At once."
—
Nearly twenty minutes later, the atmosphere had shifted.
Alexander had moved into the living area, seated with a composed posture, one arm resting against the side of the couch.
Ginger had long since abandoned her food and was now pacing around him, occasionally brushing against his leg as if seeking attention. But he ignored her.
Just then, Jasper returned with a report. "There is a complication, Your Highness."
Alexander’s gaze lifted casually, waiting for an explanation.
"None of the palace physicians are available," Jasper said. "His Majesty has summoned all of them."
Alexander frowned. "For what reason?"
Jasper hesitated only briefly. "One of the concubines in the back palace is with child."
A scoff left Alexander almost immediately, but he didn’t say anything further. Instead, he rose to his feet.
"I will go take a look at her myself," he said, already moving.
Crossing through the connecting door into Amara’s side of the residence, he walked with steady steps, his presence alone enough to shift the air in the corridor.
He entered her bedroom without announcement. Mrs. Woods was already there.
She bowed deeply the moment she saw him. "Your Highness."
Amara lay on the bed, unmoving and still asleep. Alexander’s gaze settled on her for a brief moment before shifting to Mrs. Woods.
"How did you prepare a sobering soup for her without considering that she is a Human?" he began with a cool tone.
Mrs. Woods froze, then her head lowered even further. "Your Highness... I—this servant was negligent. I failed to remind them."
Alexander didn’t respond immediately. His gaze returned to Amara, who made no movement or showed any signs of waking.
After watching the slow rise and fall of her chest for a moment, he spoke again. "Use cold water to clean her body. It should help bring her out of it," he instructed.
"Yes, Your Highness."
Alexander turned and left the room without another word and went straight to the living area to sit and wait.
Ginger wasted no time returning to his side after Jasper carried her in. She circled Alexander’s feet before attempting to climb onto the couch beside him.
He shot her a brief look. She paused, then deliberately tried more slowly this time.
Alexander exhaled faintly through his nose and looked away, choosing to ignore her rather than deal with her persistence.
Time passed quietly until the sounds of rushed footsteps closed in.
Mrs. Woods appeared at the entrance, her composure gone. "Your Highness—" she called, her voice tight with panic.
Alexander’s gaze snapped toward her.
"You need to see this." Her hands trembled slightly. "Something is wrong with Lady Amara."
