Chapter 68: The Destruction Theme Dungeon

After deciding which floor to aim for based on his exploration history, Agares arrived at Floor 60 in a flash of blue light.

His eyes opened, and he saw a corridor stretching out before him, leading to another place.

Since Floor 60 belonged to a different dungeon type, Agares knew he would encounter that kind of door again. However, he had no idea what the theme of this floor’s dungeon was.

Aoi looked around cautiously, ready for any possibility. Agares noticed her alert posture and reassured her that everything would be fine. There wouldn’t be any monsters until they reached the gate.

"Alright."

Agares walked along the corridor, activating his smart navigation and following the green arrow it displayed.

He hoped not to run into any monsters along the way—just like in the previous floors.

The farther he walked, the more clearly he could see the looming black iron door ahead. It stood ominously at the end of the path, marking the entrance to the new dungeon that connected Floor 50 to Floor 60.

"Is that the door?" Aoi asked, raising her head.

Agares stayed silent. He looked up and read the inscription carved above the iron door. It read: Forgotten Oath. A strange name for a unique dungeon.

"Forgotten Oath?"

Cautiously, Agares opened the door and stepped inside. It wasn’t a toy world, or a lush forest realm, or even a world of fire. No—this was a world of ruin, filled with crumbled city debris.

’Ah, so the theme of Floor 60 is destruction.’

Slowly, Agares scanned the area around him, curious about what kind of monsters lurked in this dark, desolate zone. Aoi remained on guard beside him.

But Agares found nothing. As far as his eyes could see, it was just an abandoned city—silent, lifeless ruins without a trace of inhabitants. It was unsettling.

"This is strange."

"What is it, Master?" Aoi asked.

"We’ve walked pretty far from the entrance... yet we haven’t encountered a single monster."

"Hmm... could it be there are no monsters here?" Aoi suggested.

"Possibly. But we still have to stay alert."

Aoi nodded with a determined hmph. As Agares continued walking, Aoi caught sight of a black shadow darting swiftly from one ruin to another.

The fox immediately called out to Agares and pointed in the direction of the shadow. Agares turned quickly, narrowing his eyes and readying his sword.

Aoi’s eyes darted rapidly—she saw not just one, but two, even three of those mysterious figures. Agares tensed, drawing his sword and preparing for battle.

[Debuff: Reduce AGI by 15% || Lose 50 HP per use || Reduce DEF by 20%]

In an instant, a violet glow erupted from Agares’ body as he drew his sword from its sheath.

He spotted their movements—they were incredibly agile and clearly dangerous. There was a strong chance they were part of the Lich faction.

Aoi’s ears perked up, catching the hiss of movement behind them. She shouted to Agares, and he instinctively swung his sword backward.

Shadepiercer clashed against a small dagger from the shadowy enemy.

With a forceful push, Agares sent the attacker flying backward, dealing damage. Sure enough, he was facing darkness-affinity monsters.

He read the name: Veil Ruinbound. Liches were usually mages—but this one was different. Something new was unfolding.

The Veil monster didn’t fight like a mage; it moved more like an assassin. Fast, nimble, wielding daggers instead of long swords, and skilled at hiding.

Each Veil monster looked and acted similarly, making it hard for Agares to determine their exact number.

"What should we do?" Aoi asked nervously.

"Don’t worry. I know how to handle this."

Agares wasn’t saying that without reason. His eyes were fixed on a tall, ruined tower that still stood above the rubble. From there, he might be able to spot the hidden lich assassins.

"Hold on tight!"

Aoi nodded. With a powerful leap, Agares launched himself toward the tower. Aoi yelped as they flew upward, her claws gripping Agares’ armor tightly.

"AGARES!"

He shifted his sword and used his free hand to grab the balcony of the tower. Agares pulled himself up, and Aoi quickly leapt off to avoid falling.

From the balcony, Agares scanned the surroundings again.

The height wasn’t enough—he needed to go higher. But with the spiral stairs inside the tower destroyed, reaching the top was nearly impossible.

This balcony, 12 meters above the ground, would have to do.

"We can’t go any higher."

Sure enough, the monsters began to attack. Some came from the balcony, others from within the tower. Agares parried each strike, refusing to let any of them land a hit.

Aoi returned to Agares’ shoulder, keeping watch while protecting her master. With no other option, Agares jumped from the balcony once more, baiting the assassin liches to chase him.

The fox became Agares’ eyes. From her vantage, she saw the assassin liches giving chase from behind.

Agares smiled. If they were grouped in one place, it would be easier to take them down.

"Activate skill!"

"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"

[Mana: 6800/6950] [-150]

Agares’ eyes flared with dark purple energy. He channeled that darkness into his blade, extending its reach and sharpening its edge.

He spun mid-air to face his pursuers, catching the assassin liches off guard. In one sweeping motion, he slashed both vertically and horizontally—cutting into the mob of enemies.

BLAST!

An explosion rocked the area, sending the liches flying. Black flames scattered across the zone, and everything fell silent once more. The assassin liches had gone back into hiding.

"How was it?" Aoi asked, opening her eyes.

"They were hit by my attack... and then they vanished again."

"Cowards! Attacking my master from the shadows!" Aoi growled.

Even so, their total HP was around 1500. One more burst of 500–600 damage would finish them off. With Agares’ current strength, defeating them wouldn’t be a problem.

"So what now?" Aoi asked.

"We hunt them down."
