The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 186 - 185: Adoption
Lin Jiandong was just feasting his eyes for a moment.
He wouldn’t actually make Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang take off their clothes.
If this were any other time, he definitely wouldn’t have held back.
But now, he still had to find a way to adopt the two children.
So of course, he couldn’t act on his impulse.
Sweet Girl was no stranger to Lin Jiandong’s unsettling gaze.
She just wanted the man in front of her to leave at once.
Suppressing her discomfort, she obediently handed the bowl to Lin Jiandong.
Lin Jiandong took the bowl, but instead of leaving immediately as he usually did, he sat down on a stool and looked at Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang.
"Sweet Girl, Uncle Lin wants to discuss something with you."
Sweet Girl looked up at him.
Lin Jiandong wore a beaming smile, looking incomparably benevolent.
"I want to adopt you and Xiao Yang. What do you think?"
Sweet Girl was taken aback. A feeling of repulsion rose from deep within her, and she refused him outright.
"Uncle Lin, I can take care of Xiao Yang. That won’t be necessary."
Lin Jiandong shook his head helplessly.
"You’re just a child yourself. How can you possibly provide for Xiao Yang?"
"Besides, it’s time for Xiao Yang to start school. Do you have the money to send him?"
His words silenced Sweet Girl.
She had no money.
And no way to send her brother to school.
’If being adopted by Uncle Lin meant Xiao Yang could go to school... she couldn’t refuse.’
Even though she was inwardly resistant, Sweet Girl couldn’t bring herself to say no.
Seeing Sweet Girl’s silence, Lin Jiandong smiled.
"How about this: you two come with me to the village chief’s place right now. I’ll officially adopt you, and from then on, you’ll be my children. Of course, I’ll pay for Xiao Yang to go to school."
Xiao Yang clutched Sweet Girl’s hand, his face a mask of resistance.
But Sweet Girl just ruffled Xiao Yang’s hair.
"Xiao Yang, Uncle Lin can send you to school. This is a good thing."
"Mom and Dad always hoped you would get a good education. Now that there’s a chance to send you to school, they’ll surely be happy up in heaven."
Lin Jiandong quickly chimed in, nodding, "Exactly! Xiao Yang, you’re a boy. You should be in school learning things."
His words swayed Sweet Girl even more.
"Uncle Lin, we’ll go with you to the village chief’s."
Lin Jiandong smiled.
Without a moment’s hesitation, he took Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang to the village chief’s house.
The village chief was a little surprised to see the three of them approaching, assuming Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang were in some kind of trouble.
He was stunned when he heard Lin Jiandong say he wanted to adopt the two children.
"Jiandong, have you really thought this through? Raising two children is no small matter."
Lin Jiandong nodded, his gaze toward the two children full of affection.
"Uncle, I’ve thought it all through. Sweet Girl’s father and I were on good terms when he was alive, and we’re neighbors, after all."
"I didn’t bring it up before because times were tough for everyone, and I honestly didn’t have the means."
"But now, thanks to your leadership, Uncle, life in the village has improved. I feel I can provide for them now, no problem."
The village chief turned to Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang. "And you two are willing?"
Xiao Yang remained silent. Sweet Girl couldn’t help but look up at Lin Jiandong.
Fearing she would back out, Lin Jiandong quickly cut in, "I promised to send Xiao Yang to school, and I’ll absolutely keep my word."
Only then did Sweet Girl nod. "We’re willing."
Lin Jiandong took out his household register, and Sweet Girl took out hers as well.
The village chief wrote them a certificate. All that was left was to go to the commune and merge their household registers into one.
As he was about to stamp it, however, the village chief asked one more question.
"Jiandong, does your family have any objections?"
Lin Jiandong patted his chest in assurance. "My mother and my wife are both on board. Don’t you worry! I wouldn’t be doing this if they didn’t agree."
The village chief figured that made sense, so he stamped the document.
Lin Jiandong clutched the stamped certificate, overjoyed. The moment they were out of the village chief’s house, his tone changed.
"From now on, you’re my daughter and my son. That means your surname has to change, too. You’ll take my surname, Lin."
