Chapter 88: Chapter 83: Blood Wood Daoist, Right Under Your Feet

Hearing the voice, Yang An, who had been heading toward his room, stopped dead in his tracks.

"Gang Leader! Terrible news, Gang Leader..."

The newcomer hurried through the corridor and approached the group. His eyes swept over everyone, but when he failed to find any sign of Jin Shou, he froze on the spot.

’Where’s the Gang Leader?’

"Did you just say the Iron Tiger Gang is attacking?"

Yang An turned around slowly and asked, a strange note in his voice.

"Reporting to the Lord Imperial Envoy, the Iron Tiger Gang’s Supervisor and their Gang Leader have brought a large mob to the gates of our headquarters. They’re shouting for the Blood Bat Gang to either submit to them or get out of Jinlong City."

The man hadn’t seen Jin Shou, but with the Lord Imperial Envoy before him, he had no choice but to brace himself and report.

Hearing this, Yang An immediately turned to Meng Wuchang, who had just taken over as Gang Leader.

Meng Wuchang was still reeling from the price of his earlier actions. Despite the obvious pain on his face, he pushed himself up from the ground and questioned the messenger.

"Where are our men? Don’t tell me the Iron Tiger Gang fought their way to our headquarters and we’re only finding out now. Do you think that’s even possible?"

"I... uh..."

The messenger was suddenly so flustered he couldn’t answer.

The former Gang Leader had arranged all of this. But with him suddenly gone, there was no one to play his part in the charade, leaving the man completely at a loss for what to say.

Seeing the man’s panicked expression, Yang An instantly knew there was some treachery afoot.

This confirmed Yang An’s suspicion: Jin Shou had planned to kill him with a borrowed knife.

The only thing was, Jin Shou was already dead. The "borrowed knife" had only just shown up now—an outcome that Jin Shou himself had probably never anticipated.

But dwelling on whether Jin Shou was behind it was pointless now. The first priority was to clean up this mess.

"Let’s go take a look."

Yang An announced to everyone present. He had a few Hall Masters lead the way, ready to go and see what exactly was happening.

The messenger sighed in relief as he watched Yang An lead the group away.

But just as he was about to follow, Yang An, walking at the head of the group, suddenly stopped. He seemed to have remembered something and beckoned to Meng Wuchang.

"Kill him."

The words were spoken calmly, but when Meng Wuchang’s icy gaze fell upon him, the man felt as if he’d been plunged into a freezing abyss.

Soon, with the others leading the way, Yang An arrived at the edge of the Blood Bat Gang’s territory.

From a distance, he could see a large crowd completely blocking off a wide street. They held torches, illuminating the tense standoff with the members of the Blood Bat Gang.

"That old man in white with his hands clasped behind his back is Wu Jinsheng, the Gang Leader of the Iron Tiger Gang."

"And the short man in the bright red Daoist robe, with Yellow Talismans hanging all over him, is the Iron Tiger Gang’s Supervisor: the Blood Wood Daoist from the Three Sacrificial Temple."

As they walked toward the edge of their territory, Meng Wuchang began identifying the leaders of the Iron Tiger Gang for Yang An.

"Did Jin Shou ever fight him?"

Yang An asked, referring, of course, to the Blood Wood Daoist.

Meng Wuchang immediately shook his head.

"Gang Leader... that is, Jin Shou, never fought him. In fact, it was our Master Wei who was grievously wounded by the Blood Wood Daoist today. He still hasn’t regained consciousness."

"Master Wei’s Cultivation Level is a notch higher than mine," Meng Wuchang added as an afterthought.

When faced with an opponent of unknown strength, Yang An’s guiding principle had always been caution.

The only thing he knew for certain was that the Blood Wood Daoist was in the Primordial Feeding Realm. What he didn’t know was which stage.

He couldn’t judge from the man’s aura, which suggested his Cultivation Level was likely at the Middle Stage or higher.

As for the Iron Tiger Gang’s leader, Wu Jinsheng, he wasn’t a concern. Yang An could see through his Cultivation Level at a glance; he was no better than Jin Shou—the two were cut from the same cloth.

Moments later, the group arrived at the edge of their territory and stood facing the men of the Iron Tiger Gang across the street.

"Where’s your Gang Leader, Jin Shou? What, is he hiding in his shell like a coward?"

Wu Jinsheng jeered brazenly the moment he saw them appear.

As rival gangs in Jinlong City, the Blood Bat Gang and the Iron Tiger Gang had always been mortal enemies. With their Supervisor present today, it was a rare opportunity. Wu Jinsheng was determined to settle old scores and vent his fury, no matter what.

And if he could use this opportunity to deal a major blow to the Blood Bat Gang, that would be even better.

Hearing Wu Jinsheng’s arrogant taunts, Meng Wuchang immediately stepped forward.

"Gang Leader Jin Shou is dead. By order of the Lord Imperial Envoy, I, Meng Wuchang, am the new Gang Leader of the Blood Bat Gang as of this moment!"

At Meng Wuchang’s declaration, everyone froze—not just the members of the Iron Tiger Gang, but the Blood Bat Gang’s own men as well. Only the few Hall Masters who were already aware of the situation remained unfazed.

"Jin Shou is dead? How did he die?"

Wu Jinsheng was highly suspicious and demanded loudly.

Having fought Jin Shou for so many years, he knew the man was capable of anything. He didn’t believe Meng Wuchang for a second; it was probably some kind of trap. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"How he died is none of your business, Boss Wu. What *is* our business is that you dared to lead your men into the Blood Bat Gang’s territory. Don’t you think you owe us an explanation?"

With Yang An by his side, Meng Wuchang was filled with confidence.

He had only been a Hall Master before. Now that he had risen to become the Gang Leader of the Blood Bat Gang, he couldn’t afford to seem weak, especially not in front of so many people.

Yang An, however, paid no mind to their bickering. His attention was focused entirely on the Blood Wood Daoist across the street.
