The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated-Chapter 14: Who Might You Be?
Chapter 014: Who Might You Be?
As for what ended up happened afterwards, Shien naturally wouldn’t have any way of knowing that.
That said, Shien did more or less guess some of it.
“If possible, I really hope for a normal and smooth development for starting my first life in another world.”
Holding that kind of thought , Shien’s original excitement since leaving the forest has since completely disappeared.
Generally speaking, Shien isn’t someone who liked acting with a high profile.
Even though he no longer remembers anything about himself, he did still hold on to his old personality.
So Shien does understand himself quite well. He clearly knows what kind of person he is.
He’s the kind of person who will act with curiosity towards new things, but he also dislikes overly exciting developments. If possible, Shien would rather pass his days peacefully without getting into trouble or standing out. He would rather be just one of the spectators watching various new things.
But on the other hand, if something unavoidable really did happen, Shien wouldn’t be crying over it either, nor would he run away. He would just accept it as something that couldn’t be helped.
Therefore, even when facing something as unbelievable as transmigration to another world, Shien didn’t have any particular feelings about it. He just accepted it and showed his curiosity when the appropriate situation came up.
Thanks to that, Shien’s ability to adapt to changes is very strong. It could also be said that he’s good at treating himself as a bystander, and he’s even better at finding silver linings in clouds. He even bore curiosity towards the job of adventurer and toward the culture of another world. He doesn’t want to draw attention or act like the protagonist of light novels who ends up winning huge fame and fortune in another world, left their names in history and made changes to peaceful everyday life.
In other words, Shien wanted a peaceful everyday life.
Even if he transmigrated to another world and got a second life. Even if he became the legendary Hero and was requested by the goddess to defeat the Demon King. He would still rather not act too high profile.
If possible, Shien planned to just normally become an adventurer, and then normally complete various requests and tasks. He’d slowly raise his own level and power, and when the time is ripe, he’ll then find a chance to defeat the Demon King and complete his mission.
To go a bit further, Shien even hoped that he could quietly, without anyone knowing, defeat the Demon King without anyone knowing.
At that time, everyone in the world would probably be really surprised or shocked, but no one would know that Shien was the one responsible. That way, Shien could hid his actions and simply continue to spend his second life peacefully and normally.
That’s what Shien wanted to do.
The ambitious might look down on Shien. They might think that since Shien has transmigrated to another world and even became the Hero along with unbelievably powerful cheats, to not have any ambitions would be a waste of his potential.
Those who dream of that kind of life, to transmigrate into another world and start a new magnificent life, might gripe at Shien. They might hate on Shien, who got what others only dream of but doesn’t have any will to rise up.
But, Shien is just that kind of person. He doesn’t want excitement, nor does he want to make a name for himself. He just want to stably and peacefully live a life, that’s all.
“I’ll use adventuring work as my livelihood, and if possible I could tour this world, see some new sights and raise my level slowly and steadily. Is that kind of life no good?”
Shien sighed to himself as he walked down the road.
Shien thus never noticed that a person just happened to pass by him, coincidentally heard what he just said, and stopped their steps.
“Oi, that adventurer over there. You just said something quite interesting there.”
When that charming voice entered Shien’s ears, he paused a moment, stopped, turned around, and looked at the source of that voice.
At that look, Shien was stunned.
Because, the view of a rather beautiful girl was imprinted into Shien’s eyes.
She looked about 17, 18-ish. Maybe a year or two younger than Shien. However, she’s quite tall, with a height of over 170 cm. She gave off a noble and elegant feel, as if she’s a young lady of good breeding taking a walk outside.
The girl has beautiful, long, straight black hair. Her eyes are scarlet, and she’s wearing a dress that not only matches her atmosphere but was also easy to move in. Even though that dress isn’t particularly glamorous, paired with the girl’s good looks and outstanding atmosphere, that dress seemed much like a princess’s dress right out of a palace.
As the saying goes: people are dressed by clothes, while horse dressed by saddles. When someone dresses up, they’re normally using the dress to accent the person. However, for this girl, it was the other way around, where the girl was the one accenting the dress. It was rather unbelievable that way.
This girl brought up an already opened package of some pastry-like snacks to eat while appraising Shien. It seems like she just started up a conversation with him out of a moment’s whim.
“You’re an adventurer right? But don’t adventurers all want to do something famous to prove themselves?”
The girl asked like she’s curious.
She wasn’t wrong either.
Generally, adventurers all want to gain fame. Only that way could they entice the attention of various high nobility or even royalty. That way, they could accept quests with even higher levels, higher difficulty, and higher rewards.
It can be said that the thing adventurers need most is fame.
Only with fame could they attract more attention, gain more chances to show off. To leave their name in history is what every adventurer is chasing.
Many people hold anticipation towards and idolize the occupation of adventurer. The reason for that is because adventurers to successfully became famous are idol-like existences. They would gain hospitality of various powerful organizations and even countries, and with that be able to gain money, fame, and status.
Thus, to those normal people, or even to some nobility, becoming an adventurer is something worth striving towards.
And under that kind of situation, Shien instead said what he did. No wonder the girl would find it curious.
Except…
“…… Who might you be?”
After a period of silence, Shien instead asked that kind of question in puzzled tone.
He didn’t forget himself just because he attracted the attention and curiosity of a beautiful girl. Nor did he panic from the girl starting a conversation with him out of nowhere. He didn’t even feel happy to have attracted her attention or tried to continue the conversation to leave a good impression and set a nice flag. Instead, he just ignored the mood and showed his suspicion.
That made the girl raise an eyebrow and put down the snacks in her hand.
“Did you want me to introduce myself?”
The girl showed a somewhat playful attitude.
“But you know, not just anyone could get me to give out my name.”
The atmosphere turned somewhat strange from those words.
