Chapter 63: Reaper

This is "Reaper," the Signature of the S-rank Cognitive Officer Faye Yun. Its ability is simple, yet more effective than most — the power to heal any wound she inflicts upon a person or object.

This isn’t the way I would explain this unique ability, however. To put this into words, she reverts something she has damaged to its original state.

With the flick of her wrist, she lifted Silas off the blade. When Silas got on his feet, it was as if he wasn’t struck by her at all. Nothing showed signs of the stab, from his skin to his clothes.

However, this was not what the two needed to focus on at the moment. The entity’s lingering presence still shadowed them — like a predator hunting its prey.

Silas and Faye retreated to a well-lit street before standing back-to-back. Faye’s Signature was used for healing, meaning it took an extraordinary wielder to make use of it in battle.

Under the assumption that the entity could not understand them, she whispered to Silas:

"If he comes towards me, I can hold it still. Hopefully you can kill it that way."

"Okay."

This made the two both conscious of each breath they took. If they even missed a second, just one slip — it could cost them their lives.

The air seemed to rip apart as the entity came back into their view, knocking Silas onto the ground.

Silas was prepared for this, willingly taking the attack before firing a shot directly at its face.

"Bang!"

The bullet already had its casing around it, which did noticeable damage to it now. There was a crack in its face, and the impact of the shell forced its jaw back.

It stumbled towards Faye, and she grabbed this opportunity by the throat now that it was off balance.

As Silas rolled back up, Faye stabbed the entity in the stomach, effectively holding it in place.

The crisp sounds of Silas’s clothes and the blade mixed, which was followed by an eardrum shattering explosion.

Bang!

The gunshot caused one of the entity’s legs to fly off — but this only seemed to harm it temporarily.

With lightning speed, it pulled Faye’s scythe out before knocking it away into a nearby building. The scythe was faster than she could comprehend, lunging into the back of her head within less than a second.

This did not kill her; however, it was her Signature after all. She simply removed the scythe, and her body was as good as new.

Silas was preparing another shot during this entire time, but the entity did not care for this.

It had changed targets entirely, using the same technique as before to slow Silas’s movements.

After this, it slammed its fist into Faye, causing her to bolt into the air. She didn’t think twice before slitting her own throat the moment she collided with the cold ground.

This way, when the debris was gone, she didn’t suffer any injuries.

When Faye reached her feet, she forced her legs forward, dashing at the entity with increasing speed.

She became a blur in Silas’s vision, slashing at the entity with both of them exchanging blows. However, it seemed the entity could not physically harm her.

Each blow it delivered simply sent her into the sky, or into buildings, which Faye could swiftly recover from.

Silas could not sit there and watch as the two fought, using his skin to create a bullet.

The effects seemed to be wearing off the more he put into the bullet. Eventually, his entire arm was consumed, leaving the pink tendrils of flesh.

Silas hadn’t fired yet; he needed Faye alive to heal him.

"Faith!"

"I said my name is Faye!"

However annoyed she was at this mishap, it seemed to grab her attention. She ran towards Silas, stabbing him in the stomach once more and throwing him into the sky.

The effects seemed to wear off from this, and his arm began to heal. It was a stomach-turning sight, his skin rebuilding itself atom by atom.

Silas stabilized himself before firing the encased bullet down towards the entity.

"Boom!"

The bullet came crashing down into the floor, and the entity held a hand up to catch it. However, the entity was not its desired target.

In this short exchange, Silas seemed to have grabbed hold of its ability already and knew that there was a difference between the entity flinging them around and slowing them down.

While these were its abilities, both could only be used after a certain time. The addition to this downside was that it had to have a designated target first.

This is why when the bullet came crashing down into Faye’s scythe, turning into its original form, all of its defenses were gone.

The designated target of the entity’s Signature was the bullet, and when Silas would form this skin into another bullet, it wouldn’t be able to defend itself.

At the same time, Faye threw her scythe directly at what they supposed was its head.

It would have to choose between the scythe and the bullet — but either was a critical blow. But this doesn’t change the fact that this entity was not as intelligent as a human.

The duo had already highlighted this earlier after it targeted Faye, even though Silas was the main damage dealer between the two.

It used both of its abilities to stop the scythe, seeing it as a larger threat. The result was the darkness being obliterated by Silas’s attack.

However, with its ability now gone from Silas’s body, he came crashing down to the floor at the same speed as the bullet. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Faye barely had time to react, but still managed to catch Silas on the blade of the scythe. Silas gave her a weak thumbs-up.

This was mainly because the stab to his stomach could still be felt while he was on the blade. Faye returned the thumbs-up with a giggle, only letting Silas off when he began to bleed out of his mouth.

"Is that it?" Silas asked.

He had already pivoted himself into the floor, refusing to stand up again.

"I don’t think so."

"Huh?"
