Chapter 250: The Choice

Zamiel who was standing atop the hill with his wings unfurled suddenly bolted up into the skies and as soon as he was suspended midair, a torrent of dark mist engulfed his form, swallowing him into an abyss of darkness until he vanished into thin air.

He had decided to pay Lucifer a visit, he wouldn’t sit still and watch the cunning fallen angel brainwash his mate and fill her head with honeyed lies and desires of her heart.

In the infernal realm of the underworld, a vortex of darkness manifested in the space of the empty hall and emerging from it, Zamiel stood, his regal presence emitting waves of melancholy from within.

His glowing red eyes retaining the intensity of hellish flames scrutinized the abode of the devil until it dropped on his minions who were crawling out of the darkness, but they stood around the corner as they watched him with keen dark eyes.

As he was about to approach one of them to query the whereabouts of Lucifer, a female demoness appeared, slithering out of the darkness as she approached him.

"Welcome lord Zamiel, Lucifer has been expecting you." She said with a buttery drawl as she flashed him a seductive smile.

Without replying, he followed her lead until they stopped in front of a double door situated in a distant, lone corridor. The door was etched with dark runes carved into it mixed with elaborate golden engravings.

Pushing the door open, he emerged into the spacious vicinity. His eyes momentarily narrowed to the ruler of darkness seated in front of him, with one long leg crossed over the other while he leaned comfortably on his throne, while rhythmically tapping the armrest with his fingers.

"Zamiel, welcome back to your home." Lucifer drawled as he stopped tapping the armrest.

"I’m not here to stay, save your energy." Zamiel remarked in a flat tone.

"And if you ever decide to stay, you’re always welcome." Lucifer said as a hollow smile reached his lips for only a millisecond before it disappeared.

"I won’t." Zamiel stated firmly.

"I’ve been receiving unexpected visits from all of you, it seems you’re all missing home." He said, his voice calm and hypnotizing with a shallow undertone to it.

"I’m not here to reminisce, You know exactly why I’m here." Zamiel pointed out as he neared the scaffold where his throne was situated on top.

"Of course I do, your little angel told you of my visit to her. You’ve always possessed the strongest will and aim for power, you’ve always been the clear headed one with the bigger picture in mind, but now you’re getting weak and vulnerable." Lucifer spat the words out like an acrid taste coating his tongue, although his countenance was neutral.

"You couldn’t protect your mate because you’re a coward and you chose not to because of your selfish desires, but I choose to protect mine and you have no say in it." Zamiel said in a guttural growl reverberating beneath his breath.

The air went still with the palpable intensity for a second. Zamiel knew he had hit a forbidden spot in him, but his face was indifferent to his words.

His shallow eyes reflected the emptiness of his dead soul, but Zamiel knew all too well that beneath the icy fortress enclosed around his dead heart, there was once a warmth in it that bloomed because of his mate.

"She’s your weakness, so was mine, but Draco got rid of it for me. They don’t make you strong, neither are they gifts from the universe, they’re only but a curse and your Achilles heel." Lucifer implied.

"I’m not here to listen to you, don’t ever show your face to her again." Zamiel warned, his cold voice was laden with a melancholic darkness.

Lucifer scoffed in disbelief and then he cackled wickedly, the songs of dark sirens weaving an ominous tempo into his laughter before he stopped abruptly, plunging the room into an unnerving stillness.

"Was that a threat Zamiel?" He queried in a sarcastic tone, a hint of mockery danced in his words as he peered his burning gaze into his. His orbs were windows to a dark path of temptation, his heart enveloped with infinite darkness and his empty soul devoid of redemption.

Zamiel’s jaws ticked and his fists clenched and unclenched in silence, his body itched to move in accordance and destroy that impish grin adorning his face.

"Since you’ve said your piece, it’s only fair I share mine with you." Lucifer said, his voice swiftly changing into a deeper tone as he stood up from his throne with an elegance that defied reason and with calculated steps, he ambled down the scaffold.

As his body swayed with pride and a might that surpassed every being on earth, wisps of darkness swirled around his terrifying and beautiful frame. Halting in front of him, their eyes momentarily locked.

"You are aware you don’t have a choice, don’t you?" Lucifer spoke calmly, his voice was soothing and a mellifluous ring to the ears, it was a gloved hand of darkness coercing them into the path of temptation and sins.

Zamiel remained still as he spoke, his words had triggered the truth, because he knew they had no choice and it was only a matter of time before they would conform to his will, they always did. At least, no one had been strong enough to resist him, no one ever will and he made sure of that.

"But still, I give you both a choice and is that not just merciful of me? Yet they say Lucifer has no mercy, I say I do. After all I give everyone a choice, they’re either free to accept or reject it, how much more merciful can one be, hm?" He claimed with a charming tone as he squeezed Zamiel’s shoulder lightly before recoiling his hand to his side.

"Yet how coincidental that everyone who has ever made a deal with you fell into damnation." Zamiel pointed out in a sarcastic tone.

"That was never for me to decide, it was simply their fate. I always fulfill my side of the bargain and that’s all that ever mattered and will ever matter. As long as I fulfill my side of the bargain, whatever happens to them has no business with me." He implied with a nonchalant demeanor.

"It doesn’t change the fact that whoever strikes a deal with you ends up dead or in misery, so why on earth would I let Malika accept your offer?" Zamiel hissed between gritted teeth as he maintained his unwavering eye contact.

Lucifer’s calm face swiftly distorted into a mask of darkness, his menacing eyes turned frigid and cold as he uttered the words with pristine cruelty dripping from every word "Because you don’t have a choice and because if she doesn’t accept my offer, then she dies."

The words resonated in Zamiel’s head like a constant mantra ringing in his head as his eyes reflected into the insensitive, calllous ones of Lucifer, but then his frigid countenance switched to his neutral one as a maniacal grin tore through his lips.

"But still, she has a choice. The only difference is that she either gets to die or live depending on which one she makes."

Zamiel’s veins popped in his neck, his crimson eyes narrowed with the raw, pristine force of anger and darkness merging as one, but unfortunately, he was no match for the devil, so he managed to control himself.

Leaning his face next to his ear, Lucifer whispered, his dark voice snaked through the air as it whisked into his ears "Your rage is useless here son, it won’t solve anything. So go back to your little angel and convince her to accept the offer when next I pay her a visit, after all her life is hanging on the line." freewebnσvel.cѳm

Leaning back, he stood tall with squared shoulders as he flashed him a victorious grin.

Zamiel, unable to say anymore merely looked at him for a long moment with burning glares. The devil didn’t bluff, neither did he make empty promises or threats. He would undoubtedly kill Malika if he refused to cooperate and persuaded her against releasing Morwana.

He wasn’t torn between conflicting emotions right at that instant, he knew exactly what he had to do and Malika’s life was more significant than any other thing.

He either had to save Malika or Draco and he wouldn’t bat an eyelid before choosing his mate over anyone, he would rather watch the world burn than watch her get hurt.

Zamiel, not wanting to spend a second more in his presence, veered around to leave, but Lucifer’s unnerving voice weaved from the darkness itself suddenly echoed behind him.

"I almost forgot to introduce you to my second in command."

Zamiel turned around reluctantly, his gaze narrowed to Lucifer before it dropped on the figure lurking within the shadows behind the throne seat. Slowly, the figure cloaked in billowing robes emerged from the darkness clouding his form.

Zamiel couldn’t make out whoever it was as it had a hood concealing its face until it removed it slowly and immediately the hood came off, his gleaming red locks danced behind him like fiery snakes.

"Damien?" Zamiel called out in a startled whisper.
