The Devil's Warrior Queen-Chapter 417: Tea With The Queen
Chapter 417: Tea With The Queen
Ares’s face went neutral as he rose "You can go on then. Have tea and then train." He said with a stressed tone, but Falka could sense the underlying curiosity in his voice.
"Okay then, I’ll see you later in your secret place, that is if you’re still here." Falka chipped with a small smile playing on her lips. She slowly inched further away from Ares, but reluctantly.
Ares gave her a silent smile and he watched her twirl around, her gown billowing behind as she disappeared into the forest.
Falka soon arrived back at the castle and immediately she strut in, Rama was standing patiently at the entrance, as if waiting for her.
Falka halted in her footsteps when she came face to face with the Queen.
"Shall we have tea before your training begins?" Rama offered with a faint smile and Falka nodded as she followed her lead to the balcony where they would have tea.
In silence, they both walked down the hallway and soon they reached the open balcony overlooking the castle grounds from above.
Rama took a seat opposite the girl, thankfully her face wasn’t pale from shock, neither was there confusion in her eyes anymore. She was slightly impressed with how Ares handled the situation of approaching his mate.
But still, uncertainty lingered in her golden eyes as she darted it around, only for it to stop on the flowers blooming at one corner of the balcony. The girl was a unique gem to behold, with abilities beyond even her wildest imagination and as well, dangerous.
For a moment, they sat there in comfortable silence while Rama rang for tea before dropping her gaze back on the girl who was rather lost in thoughts, her distant eyes quickly giving her away and Rama let her be for a second.
The soft glow on the sunlight kissed the girl’s features, making her radiate like the sun in an ethereal manner. Her red locks glimmered under the light like strands of fire about to be ignited in wild flames.
Rama knew very well the girl was tough, maybe tougher than she looked, that was why she was able to resist the pull between her and Ares. It wasn’t hard for Rama to figure it out, her observations were keen.
Although, she seemed to have a tough demeanor, Rama knew there was a soft place within her yet to explore, perhaps if she could, then she wouldn’t resist anymore.
"How are you feeling?" Rama broke the silence after stretching it for too long and the girl abruptly snapped out of her thoughts.
Rama watched Falka as she darted her eyes between the tea and her face, questions gleaming in her eyes.
"I’m still processing, but so far its been better than being locked up without getting to feel the sun." Falka said in a clipped tone.
Rama noticed Falka didn’t like sharing too much about herself, her emotions or her ordeal of when she was locked. It seemed to be easier for her to keep them locked in, as if talking about herself and her plight would make her weak, or perhaps she was just a weak girl, pretending to be strong, Rama thought inwardly.
"Ares seems to have done a good job in talking to you, makes me wonder what he said to calm you down." Rama intoned as she sipped her tea slowly.
"He’s..nice, but shut in." Falka said, turning her face away so Rama wouldn’t notice her reddened cheeks. Falka couldn’t help it but whenever Ares was mentioned or she thought of him, an electrifying sensation ran through her veins.
"I am very familiar with that feeling, you can’t hide your heated cheeks, or your dreamy eyes from me. I’ve gone through all those and you will too." Rama remarked with a subtle glint of mischief in her jade eyes.
Falka pressed her lips in a thin line, slightly embarrassed. "Ares said we might not be mates after all, at least he won’t know until his eighteenth birthday is marked." Falka reasoned out, snuffing out any hope in her before she even hoped.
"Why do you do that to yourself?" Rama asked as she placed the teacup on the table.
Falka’s brows furrowed in confusion "What do you mean?"
Rama smiled faintly as she said "You crush your own hopes before even letting them bloom, its like crushing your future before it grows."
"Hope destroys more than it saves. And my future lies in here. I already have everything I want, there’s no need to hope for anything else. I’m satisfied." Falka intoned.
"Are you really satisfied? Its not a crime to want more especially when you know you deserve it with half your life taken away from you." Rama said in a soft, coaxing tone.
Falka sighed "The only thing I deserve is my freedom. Everything else is just a path to weakness, I was weak before, now I just strive to be free and strong."
"I feel like I am staring right at my younger self. I was bold and overly confident. It did lead to the downfall of my kingdom, cost me the life of great soldiers and the people I loved. Who knew I would rebuild what I lost with the man I once swore to kill and soak my hands with his blood? Life throws a lot of unexpected things at us, what it doesn’t throw is what we expect." Rama remarked.
Falka was silent for a moment as she listened to Rama, but then as if something clicked, Falka’s eyes widened with a flicker of what seemed to be awe and admiration.
Abruptly, Falka blurted out "You’re the warrior queen!" She exclaimed, excitement perceptible in her voice.
Rama smiled amused by her reaction "Did you read about me or did the maids gossip about me?"
Falka cleared her throat awkwardly as she composed herself "I did read about you, besides the maids were too scared of me."
"Who knew East Ravka would be telling my tale?" Rama sighed.
"I used to look up to you, I mostly gained strength from your strength even though we had never met. I was fascinated by your valor and power especially since you were only human. It takes a lot of boldness to go against the vampire king." Falka said.
"And a lot of stupidity. I was a reckless queen and it led to the downfall of my Empire, but then it led to something greater." Rama shrugged, a bittersweet smile crossing her lips as nostalgic memories flooded her eyes.
The thought of Malika’s glowing face flashed through her head and her emerald eyes watered but she blinked the tears back. Only if she could rewind time, she with would give her life for Malika’s without blinking.
Even after all the years, it still hurt. The wound Malika’s left in her was still fresh and deep, it hurt deep in her soul. It still felt like seconds ago when she watched the light fade from Malika’s beautiful amber eyes not once but twice.
She had to watch her die twice and she could never be able to forgive herself for letting it happen even though she had no power to stop it from happening.
"You lost a lot, I’m sorry, truly." Falka said, her voice tinged with consolation.
"My life would have been worthless without them." Rama said, closing her eyes for a second as she regained her composure.
"How was it possible to fall for the ma..demon who made you lose so much and caused you so much pain? Despite him being your soul-bound mate, it Still doesn’t sound right to me." Falka reasoned out, her face twisted in a grimace.
"In war, its normal for the kingdom who lost in battle to fall, but I did hate him, every inch of him but instead he saw me as an amusing plaything." Rama narrated.
"I feel like he made you lose more than a kingdom, its absurd how you can easily forget and forgive that." Falka blurted out.
"He didn’t, but his father did." Rama said in a quipped tone.
"His Father. Lucifer?" Falka asked.
Rama could sense the building tension in Falka’s demeanor as she waited for her response.
"You shouldn’t be afraid of him." Rama said and Falka sighed in relief, but then she added "I would be lying if I said I meant that."
Falka’s face suddenly dropped as soon as the words came rolling off her lips.
"Don’t worry, the mates of his bloodline are very valuable to him, after all the fate of his lineage is resting on our hands." Rama said with a smirk.
"So we’re safe." Falka breathed out.
"Just because he won’t kill you doesn’t mean he won’t harm you. He’s hurt me more times than I could count and it doesn’t even has to be physical." Rama noted, her demeanor turning dark and grave as she spoke.
"So we’re not safe after all." Falka breathed out.
"No one is." Rama said with a heavy tone.
From that day onwards, Falka decided to move on from all the despair and sadness accumulating in her heart, she decided them from now on that she was going to move on with her life.
From that day onwards, a new era began and new offsprings erupted forth from their infernal lineage.
