The Devil's Warrior Queen-Chapter 506: Willpower
Chapter 506: Willpower
Larisa walked through the double doors to enter she and Lothaire’s room. He was standing meters away from Laverna as he spoke to her with a grave expression on his face and fists clenched into a tight ball, it felt as though only a thin thread was holding him from exploding.
Larisa saw Laverna’s expression when her dark red eyes met hers and worry hit her, she was wearing a sour look with creased brows on her face and she smelt trouble. The unnerving air hovering in the room weighed heavily around them and she immediately felt her stomach churn.
"Come on child, don’t be scared." She heard Laverna’s voice draw her back to reality and she realized she had been standing frozen on the ground staring at them both. She glanced at Lothaire for a split second before moving towards her as she opened her arms for her to come to her while Lothaire watched her every movement like a hawk.
When she was close enough, Laverna suddenly placed her palms at both sides of her head, red mists emanating from her hand to engulf her head and Laverna’s blood red eyes turned black.
Larisa felt a slight burning sensation as soon as she felt Laverna’s hands on her head that slowly increased with every passing second. Laverna suddenly pulled her hands away from her head with a sudden frantic movement and the colour of her eyes suddenly turned red. The girl’s eyes closed and her body immediately fell limp as she went into a concussion.
Lothaire reflexively caught her before her body could touch the ground. He stared at her unconscious face as he laid her on the bed gently with a soft look on his face but his face suddenly turned grim when he faced Laverna.
"What happened? Don’t tell me I kept you for nothing." His voice was hard as he spoke between gritted teeth in a low but dangerous voice and Laverna set her lips straight in a thin line.
"I’m truly sorry Lothaire.." Her words were abruptly cut short by Lothaire’s big arm grabbing her throat violently as his golden eyes scorched in anger and impatience, he wanted to get it done and over with, he wanted Larisa to be safe again with nothing to worry about, no nightmares to disrupt her peaceful sleep, no daunting presence haunting her.
"Don’t fucking tell me you’re sorry! Do something about it or I’ll fulfill my promise of making sure your body parts live in different nations twenty feet beneath the earth and you’ll never see the light again!" He threatened her with a low growl as his flaming eyes burned into hers while she struggled to let air pass through her lungs, but as much as he wanted her to suffer and reflect on trying harder, he needed to hear her out.
He roughly let go of her neck to hear what she had to say while she reflexively rubbed her neck where the bruise had disappeared.
"Hela is in the spiritual realm, there’s nothing anyone can do to her there and releasing her now isn’t an option now since it’s not time yet." Laverna explained but Lothaire’s brows creased together even harder, his sharp jaws ticked and his fists clenched.
"So you’re telling me just how useless you are? You are the goddess of infinity, you can travel through time and space, so why don’t I send you into the abyss, get her head straight and then come back out?" He suggested without a second thought, no, it was more of an order than a suggestion and Laverna gulped.
"It’s not that easy Lothaire, even if I meet her in the abyss there’s nothing I can do to her there, it’ll be as good as useless, she can operate through the spiritual realm but I can’t, I’m not as powerful as Hela." Laverna reasoned out, there was no hint of mischievousness playing in her eyes or words, she was dead serious and she didn’t need to tell Lothaire twice.
"You travel through time and space, why can’t you do that too in the spiritual realm?" He questioned as he shot her hot glares that made her flinch back a little. If it seemed as though he had no use for her anymore, he wouldn’t hesitate to fulfill his promise.
"This is the spiritual realm we’re talking about Lothaire, yes I can travel through it but I can’t really do anything there, my powers will be useless. The only reason Hela is able to do it is because she’s the goddess of death." Lothaire frowned at hearing her, he wondered if he’d have to wait till the blood moon appeared when he would release her which was two weeks from then.
"Lothaire..." He heard Laverna call him in a dreary tone and he immediately fell out of his thoughts to hear her out. Whatever she seemed to say felt as though it was too heavy to pass through her lips, it felt uncanny and he didn’t want to hear it but he had to.
"Don’t waste my time, Laverna!" Lothaire made sure his voice wasn’t loud enough to wake his sleeping angel up but his voice held an appalling tone to it.
"Hela is not only giving her nightmares, she has a goal to achieve from all of this." Lothaire was getting impatient as she was beating around the bush to him.
"Spill it out!"
Laverna sighed heavily, composing herself before saying.
"Hela has the ability to posses bodies of weak minds, I’m afraid that’s what she’s trying to do to her." She explained while glancing towards Larisa with her red glowing eyes and Lothaire followed her eyesight but with a deep frown etched on his face.
"Is she able to do that when she’s trapped in that abyss? How sure are you?" Lothaire queried with narrowed eyes.
"There are three stages to possession. Infestation, oppression and lastly, possession. Obviously as we’ve noticed, she’s infesting Larisa’s life through her dreams and soon, the dream might end, then oppression comes, she’ll make life unbearable for her and lastly, if she breaks her, she’ll possess her body, slowly erasing her from this world and she might gain full possession of her body if she’s too weak to fight back and she might as well die in the process once she leaves her body."
Lothaire’s body trembled hearing Laverna speak as his blood boiled. Laverna’s words felt like gibberish to him and at the same time she was making a lot of sense. He knew just how ruthless Hela was and she wouldn’t bat an eye in killing his mate just to make him suffer the way he had made her suffer in the abyss for a thousand years.
"How do we prevent Hela possessing her? I need answers now!" Lothaire’s body now burned with immense heat as his face darkened and his petrifying aura oozing out of his body, he felt a maddening urge to protect Larisa at all cost, he was impatient, furious and frustrated to the core.
"There’s nothing we can do, she’s the only one who can save herself if she keeps her mind strong enough to fight against Hela possessing her body. If she’s overcome with fear, Hela will use that against her and easily possess her." Lothaire brushed his fingers through his dark hair sweeping it backward in exasperation, a dark chuckle escaping his lips as his face turned terrifying with eyes blazing like hell.
He glanced at Larisa every now and then, the fragile human girl obviously wasn’t strong enough to fight against the goddess of death, it was a suicide mission if he had to let her, she got easily scared from nightmares so how was she supposed to?
He felt utterly disappointed with himself and useless that he couldn’t do anything to protect her from Hela and with every passing second, Hela was getting close to possessing her which could lead to her death but he would never let that happen, not on his watch.
Could Larisa overcome the impossible danger ahead of her? Was her mind strong enough to fight for the both of them?
