Chapter 75: The Charming Vampire Lord Is In Love With A Human

"What prophecy did the seers give you?" Damien queried with a flash of curiosity across his eyes.

"It was a really confusing prophecy. They gave me a prophecy that I’ll take back my throne as queen, but then, prophecied that I’ll become a monster." Rama explained with furrowed brows and a confused expression, but then she pouted angrily when she remembered they were dead and she was now left to tread in a path of obscurity.

"It seems optimistic and at the same time pessimistic. It’s both good and bad, is all you need to know, I doubt they would have given you a credible answer anyway." Damien said with a casual shrug as he flipped his hair back.

Even the most trivial things he did was done with so much grace and gentleness, she wondered really if he was an half angel like Draco had ridiculed her about.

"Why wouldn’t they have given me a credible answer?" Rama queried.

"If they wanted to, they would have in the first encounter, but they prefer for you to solve your own puzzle yourself and naturally follow the fated path the universe had designed for you, telling you everything will only cause an unbalance." Damien explained.

"If everyone had knowledge of everything, the world will be chaotic, wouldn’t it? Secrets will be revealed, fates will be destroyed before they’re sealed and there will be a tremendous fight for power, because no one will accept death so easily." He added in as he got engrossed in the conversation, while Rama listened thoughtfully.

"You’re right, but then, they should never have told me about my ugly fate, it only makes me more agitated about what the future holds for me." She muttered in a strained voice as she sighed in exasperation, their words ringing in her head like a mantra.

"If you think your fate is ugly, then what shall I call mine?" He queried rhetorically with a faint smile playing on his lips.

"At least, you have a future to look up to and its up to you to make the most out of it." He continued.

"Did the seers give you a prophecy?" She asked as she observed him with keen interest, waiting in suspense for the words to spew out of his lips.

"Yes, even though I never asked." He said dryly.

She figured whatever prophecy the seers had revealed to him wasn’t pleasing, the glow in his red eyes were diminishing, making it a tad dull and even though he had a smile plastered on his face, she could see the sorrow behind it.

Although, she would have derived pleasure from seeing a night creature in pain, but she felt a tinge of sympathy for Damien.

"What was the prophecy?" She asked with a very low voice in a whisper, it barely left her lips and she prayed inwardly he wouldn’t hear her so the carriage could move in silence.

She reasoned he didn’t hear her, because the carriage was plunged in utter silence after her question, till they arrived at the castle.

The carriage halted in front of the entrance into the castle.

She clambered out of the carriage after Damien and they both entered the castle.

"I’ll see Draco about the seers." He muttered and she hummed in response as they ascended the stairs.

She was off to meet Madam Eleanor, but they had to go through the same hallway together before they would dispatch to their various directions.

She had no problem with Damien walking beside her, but there was something vaguely distinct about the three of them specifically that made her uncomfortable and agitated.

Damien abruptly broke the intensifying silence as they trod down the hall "They prophecied my death."

Rama took a second before she could realize he was giving her the reply to her question which she thought he had failed to hear.

"W-What?" She spluttered in utter doubt.

He was going to die? Why him and not Draco? Her intrusive thought kicked in as she pondered.

"Draco’s immortal remember?" He said in between a short chuckle.

"Did they say when?" She queried with creased brows, hoping he wouldn’t die soon.

"In a decade." He replied and she let out a sigh of relief. At least she wouldn’t be here for up to a decade if she was fated to be queen.

"They gave me the prophecy nine years and ten months ago." He said casually as he moved down the hallway, but immediately the words rolled off his lips, she halted abruptly.

She scrutinized his face for any sign of a joke, but she knew it wasn’t even with his smiling face, she could feel the weight of his words being too heavy for his mouth as it rolled off his lips.

Eventually, he had only two months left to live. How unfortunate, she thought inwardly as she felt a slight tang of pain prick her skin.

He was the only one, vampire or not who portrayed any sort of humane feeling toward her and treated her like a human, it was unfair for the universe to treat him so cruelly.

She wondered why he of all vampires had to be given a death date. It could have been someone deserving of it like Draco or Zamiel, now if either were given a death date, it would be one of the happiest days of her life.

Even though she hated vampires and had refused to acknowledge it, she took a liking to lord Damien and it only portrayed the fact that he was right after all, if she could take a liking to her enemy, then vampires could be loved, probably only vampires like lord Damien, she doubted anyone would love someone like Zamiel or Draco.

"That’s unfortunate. I want to apologise for trying to befriend you for favour, but if it helps, I don’t hate you after all. I just never wanted to admit to the fact that I don’t hate a vampire." She said genuinely, earning a wider grin on his handsome face.

"So you would have never admitted to the fact that you liked me if I wasn’t dying." He drawled with a mischievous glint in his eyes, as a sarcastic smirk curved up the edge of his lip.

"How are you so laid back with the fact that you’ll be dead in only a few months?" Rama queried doubtfully as her brows furrowed in bafflement.

"Should I cry in my room then?" He queried in sarcasm.

"I’ve lived for five centuries and honestly, I grew tired of it all, when the seers gave me the prophecy of my death, I accepted it without a care in the world when I had nothing to live for anymore, but now that I have a reason to live, it seems its too late." He sighed in exasperation as he continued treading down the hall.

"What is your reason to live now?" She queried, but as soon as the words left her lips she bit down on her lower lip.

An unfathomable spark flared in his red eyes before he spoke.

"I think I’m in love, but its a shame I won’t be able to spend the rest of my life with her." He said as he gave her a smirk.

Rama’s lashes fluttered like butterfly wings, she was utterly dumbstruck by the words that left his lips which she had least excepted to hear from him.

In love? With who? She pondered, although his love life was the least of her problems, she found herself burning in curiosity since he was going to cease from existence in two months, with or without confessing his feelings. It felt like a tragic love story.

"With a human and her name’s Rama." He said nonchalantly, but his casual words didn’t deter the sincerity in his eyes as he momentarily locked his gaze on hers.

She felt sympathy and she liked him in a undesirous, unromantic, platonic way, but love was another feeling that was out of question and boundaries for her.

She had no soul or heart to reciprocate whatever feeling he claimed he had for her which she found rather ludicrous as they had barely known each other for a week.

"You don’t have to give me an answer right now, I can wait." He said politely, nothing less than a polished and refined gentleman.

But he didn’t even have the time to wait, she pondered inwardly.

His sudden throaty laughter echoed in her ears, breaking her out of her thoughts.

"I actually lied, the seers didn’t give me any prophecy about me dying, it was all made up." He spouted out, earning a grim look on her face as she shot him a scorching glare.

"Unfortunately, I don’t feel the same way lord Damien. Besides, don’t you think its awkward falling in love with your king’s captive and someone in the lowest hierarchy that you barely even know?" She snapped between gritted teeth.

"Like I said, you don’t have to give me an answer right now. I have to leave now." He said with a charming smile before disappearing through the intersection in the hallway.

She scoffed at his incredulity and the confidence he used in spouting ludicrous words. He must have been the weirdest vampire she had ever encountered, although he seemed earnest, but still he sounded more ludicrous.

She rolled her eyes before veering around to leave.
